it's not the same thing, different display size, slightly lower ppi, different res. retina doesn't have fixed specifications.

The new resolution's pretty impressive, and the battery life is probably a good deal better as well. The dual core CPU is kinda meh, but the GPU's mighty impressive. Any data on how it stacks up to the Tegra 3?

Both are going to run in entirely different ecosystems. The difference is going to have to be orders of magnitude - *qualitatively* limiting what's possible on device X compared to device Y - for it to matter. I'm still wondering how they managed to pull 9h with both LTE and the new display, though.

It's probably better GPU, but I don't see a dual core stack up to a quad core.

UK pricing for this is crap compared to the US. £399 in GBP is $629 Why do they charge so much extra here?

apple earns a profit of 50% for the ipad 3. 499 usd for the base version, they earn 250. apple has the ability to monopolize the tablet market even more, its just that their pricing is borderline outrageous. if they lower the price of all their ipads,ipods,macbooks by about 10-15% i guarantee you they will profit even more overall. i know of many people who love apple's devices but what is stopping people from buying their products is the pricing, as similarly spec-ed tablets against the ipad 3, cost about 50-100 lesser. if apple lowers the price of all ipads by just 10%, i am certain many more people will make the jump.

I thought the store would be jammed packed when the new phone came out but it actually wasn't too bad here, expecting the same when I go later.

Yeah I just got back, wasn't too bad, but I'm not exactly in a big country either so I guess that's why. As for the iPad itself, it looks great, especially the retina display. Looking through the camera on the photo app is as sharp as fuck - it's really really nice. The speed compared to the iPad 1, which I had previously is brilliant too. Really enjoying it so far!
