uh, because a Mac UI was found and Valve did release all these pictures themselves. none of this is fan made.
Whilst the Orange Box base would probably be converted for mac, the parts that contain modificaitons by Garry would not be converted, thus not working.
It wouldn't be a switch where you just flip it and suddenly everything works. If Garry isn't going to provide Linux bins to server hosters, odds are he won't provide a mac version either.
and that dies make sense, sorry if I sounded like a dick.
Just wondering, but how do I know this is not some fan who WANTS it to come to OS X?
I've seen no confirmation directly from Valve that it's coming to OS X... Not that I would care, as I'd much rather want it on Linux.

I know about the UI, and the UI files, but where can I see that Valve released these pictures themselves?
Kotaku got them Valve and other sites requested high-res pictures from Valve and Valve sent out high-res pictures. I think Zips even said he asked for high-res from Valve and got them.

tbh it's quite interesting that Steam is coming for Mac, as technically Mac is a better platform for games than Windows, so it'll be cool to see how they do things.
what?
[editline]10:45AM[/editline]
you mean that Mac OS X is a better OS for games?

Your personal opinion.
Personally i think it's overpriced, and is basically just unix for retards.
I just hope this means Linux soon.

Even a 2 year old Macbook has an X3100 in it, which granted is terrible, but IIRC can just about manage TF2 on low, and everything after that has atleast a 9400M, which is far more capable. The available hardware isn't as diverse, and therefore doesn't really scrape the bottom like PC laptops do(though the X3100 is still terrible) and while at the same time a Mac doesn't officially go past a 4850, having a better low end is probably better for game devs than having a high high-end.
that actually makes sense. my iMac from 2006 (specs: 1.86ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ddr2, and an ATI x1600 128mb gddr3) was able run games like TF2 on medium settings at 1440x900 and even managed to play World in Conflict on medium settings at 1440x900 perfectly, it was the most low end iMac of it's time. yes Macs are expensive but they are capable of playing games at decent settings for the specs you get.
oh and Macs do use higher cards than the 4850. just need a Mac Pro and you can get a 4870 or a gtx285.
The main OS runs better, I get way higher FPS on CoD: MW on OS X than I do on Windows 7 on my MacBook with the same settings.
seems like Mac OS X is more effecient than Windows 7.

in some cases.

It depends, As a whole, Yes. As SL has been upgraded more than Windows 7 has. But we all know that no OS is better at everything than any other.
IMO OS X is the best (except for games) because it has everything I need and fits me very well. But that doesn't mean windows sucks.

I pretty much agree with what you said there. Mac OS X does exactly what I want and does it efficiently, as for Windows I only really use it for games. Even with Steam coming to Mac this probably won't change for me since not all of my would would work or even run on my MacBook.
That's not how it would work.
Presumably, that's exactly how it would work. I think they might be turning Steam into a Wine/Cedega platform for the Mac where each game is screened and bug fixes are made in the Wine/Cedega code to make it specifically compatible. That way anything could work and most likely something like Garry's Mod would work right out of the box being Source based and everything.
More likely than them porting Source to OpenGL anyways. And even if they did, only their Source games would work. Other Source developers would have to port themselves and every single game in the store would have to be ported/Wined individually. It's just not reasonable.

and the current glaDOS version is 1.09 and portal was released 10/9
So 11/3 may be the release date of portal 2 and Steam for OS X.
Or we might be unlucky and the date is 3/11.
Judging by Valve time, presumably the latter.

Unlucky if the date is 3/11? What?
Are you saying March 11, or the European style which would be November 3?
the European style I think...

you're comparing a $1000 laptop (which you could get these days for still about $850-900) to a $600 lap top. don't do that.
the amount you'd be paying is about the same for a PC of the same hardware performance... a mac isn't better than a PC when it comes to games at all that's just talking out of your ass
Don't be dumb. His point is you can't get shitty (and therefore cheap) Macs.

Except the mac's low end costs as much as a good laptop from dell/hp/asus etc.
Not that gaming on laptops is a huge market on either platform.

yes and my point is that for the same exact price you can get a windows based prebuilt laptop with the same exact performance
[editline]02:31AM[/editline]
so in that sense, it isn't any better at all.

I'm not disputing that, but it still means the overall Mac hardware pool doesn't have as many dregs like any other brand. if you buy a (new) Mac today you will at least get a 9400M, if you buy a Windows computer, you might end up with a 4500HD or some other Intel guff, or equally you could have some actually decent ATI/nVidia IGP (probably the latter at a Mac price point as you say) but the Intel shite still exists.
basically, what you pay for is NOT total shit and is actually quite good once you think about what you are getting. not the best but not the worst either.
Hey don't forget the people who run hackintoshes.

well no of course not, but, and i really don't understand how you're not grasping this idea, a windows based lap-top or prebuilt of the same price will have the same exact hardware in terms of games performance, possibly even better performance/hardware.
yes, a cheaper prebuilt or lap-top won't be as fast, no shit, no one seriously thinks cheaper=faster, but this doesn't automatically make gaming on Mac better. i don't know how you're not getting that, but you aren't.
