...or perhaps we should assume the fact that Valve didn't do this so that every Mac in the world could play it.
Well no. Its just not too much to ask to make applications compatible with the GMA950 chipset. I'm not asking for something to work on my 20 year old laptop or anything :p. A good example is the sims 2, it was released pretty close to when the new aluminum macbooks started picking up. But the game requires snow leopard, and it doens't support GMA950, which was the most popular mac laptop chipset at that time. Though i'll assume the game was aimed at the imac market. Just frustrating to know something I bought a few years ago is outdated, and not in the classical computer sense... In a "you're fucked because you aren't allowed to even run the shit" sense. At least most of the time you can run it, although slowly and under bad conditions. :(
I'm not too educated when it comes to laptop chipsets, but does TF2 work on Windows on an equivalent to the GMA950?
On the GMA950? No. It works on anything higher (I've had success in DX8 mode on an X3100), though. See paren above, though, this might change for OpenGL.

So unless Valve is going to support OpenGL 1.4, it won't work.

What's that image in the OP with Alyx throwing the crowbar about?
They don't know what TF2 and Portal is, but portal turret is higher, looks cleaner and more next-gen so it's good for mac-users and pc-users great move
But the TF2 turret is easily upgradeable and ends up outperforming a mac. Wow, what a great metaphor for Mac's and PC's Good job valve!
But the TF2 turret is easily upgradeable and ends up outperforming a mac. Wow, what a great metaphor for Mac's and PC's Good job valve!
The mac turret falls down and cant get back up :(
The mac turret falls down and cant get back up :(
Windows turret gets sapped by viruses?
Windows turret gets sapped by viruses?
But they're easy to get rid of.
But they're easy to get rid of.
You just bang on it until it works again!
You just bang on it until it works again!
And when the turret falls down, it's pretty much fucked.
yes Macs are expensive but they are capable of playing games at decent settings for the specs you get. oh and Macs do use higher cards than the 4850. just need a Mac Pro and you can get a 4870 or a gtx285.
They're capable. Yes, no one disagrees. But even if you buy all that stuff, it STILL won't be as good playing on a mac than a pc. PC = $$ Mac = $$$$$$$$$$$
i feel so trolled
This entire thread.
and yet Apples sells a shit load despite how much they charge.
Straw men arguments are pretty effective.
Straw men arguments are pretty effective.
what?
what?
You aren't replying to him - you're saying it isn't an issue about something different. It's rather like bringing up tort reform when talking about single-payer healthcare.
You aren't replying to him - you're saying it isn't an issue about something different. It's rather like bringing up tort reform when talking about single-payer healthcare.
now I'm even more confused :psyduck:
He said that Apple aims for a lower performance bracket with the same price. He's absolutely right - but when you reply that it doesn't affect how they sell in any way (which is also right) - wait, it isn't a straw-man.
so I'm right?
You're right but it isn't clear what he's trying to say - he's saying that Macs cost more than PCs is the entire point of the thread (which it isn't) so no you can't effectively reply either way. Unless he's intending it as a conclusion which isn't the point of the thread either.
now I understand whats going on
...at my room - April 1st... Me: Fuck yeah! Finally gonna play Portal on my mac!! Valve: APRIL FUCKING FOOL!!! HOAX!!!
...at my room - April 1st... Me: Fuck yeah! Finally gonna play Portal on my mac!! Valve: APRIL FUCKING FOOL!!! HOAX!!!
No one said it was gonna be April 1st, probably gonna be late April.
