• I need an antivirus software. AKA What do you use and why?

The number of people saying "durr, just use common sense" amazes me. Common sense dictates that you should be using an AV.
MSE cause its free and great.
It's been said before but I'll say it again: ESET/NOD32.
Okay well, just warning for you people out there who don't use AV's. Vipre is my all-time favorite AV and I think it's the best out there, but seriously..if you haven't got even a simple program to detect and eliminate viruses, you're just setting your PC up to become a haven for them. Take it from me...get your computer protected RIGHT NOW. Hackers these days are very complex with their backdoor Trojans, worms, ect, they often keep it as a "hidden" file, and often it's extremely difficult to get rid off, even corrupting essential files and forcing you to get an entirely new System...
AVG or Security Essentials are both pretty good.
AVG or Security Essentials are both pretty good.
AVG used to be good Now it's just bloat mixed with advertising.
avast its free and that shit
I use F-Secure and I think it's great.
What's with all the hate on Norton? And I wouldn't recommend MSE, just my opinion, which is backed by facts. I've been using AVG Free for years and it works quite well. My laptop came with McAfee pre-installed. It's awful, but I'm too lazy to uninstall it :v:
avast simply because you can get yourself custom sounds (here) and it has a good web shield in paticular. avast virus database has been updated, ese

It's non-intrusive, and I haven't had anything on the computer in the time I've used it. At the same time I fix a lot of computers with Norton, and it always ends up doing jackshit.

Avast blocks minus images for some reason

MSE and Spybot:S&D
Linux.
MSE
I was bored, so I did this: BLUE = Pay/Trial GREEN = **Free** RED = Chinese shit so I can't read it In order from most protective to least.
Now do comodo
Pepper;32848348']Now do comodo
Doesn't seem that great.
That is some broken shit if it thinks Norton is better than comodo
Though I wonder why they haven't done an updated test. [editline]18th October 2011[/editline] ...Or it's right and Norton has been completely redone and is far better than its previous versions like people have been saying the past year or more.
Pepper;32849878']It's better than it was but nearly everything else tramples over it.
Even though two different and independent AV sites disagree with you.
Even though two different and independent AV sites disagree with you.
If comodo is terrible then how has none of my PCs with it installed got infected?
Pepper;32849931']If comodo is terrible then how has none of my PCs with it installed got infected?
I never said it was terrible...? I can likewise ask you the same question with any other AV (or lack of); however, our stories mean jackshit because we're smarter than the average consumer. These are unbiased tests conducted by two different sites. I'm pretty sure what they have trumps whatever you or I can say. They're meant for those who are prone to get infected.
i'm just gonna end it with this Comodo blows norton and AVG out of the water. That test might've been with the average home users who are after easy to use AVs.
Pepper;32850051']i'm just gonna end it with this Comodo blows norton and AVG out of the water. That test might've been with the average home users who are after easy to use AVs.
lol Never knew fanboyism could seep into AV's.
I use Avast!... but I've never caught a virus with it, so I'm not entirely sure if it's working or if my PC is really clean. However, I really dislike when I'm doing something quiet like reading an article and "AVAST VIRUS DATABASE AS BEEN UPDATED" at 120 decibels.
