"AVAST VIRUS DATABASE AS BEEN UPDATED" at 120 decibels.
You can turn that off.
I use Avast!... but I've never caught a virus with it, so I'm not entirely sure if it's working or if my PC is really clean.
However, I really dislike when I'm doing something quiet like reading an article and "AVAST VIRUS DATABASE AS BEEN UPDATED" at 120 decibels.
You know what to do.
Comodo is better than everything.
Or well, MBAM is awesome too.
My father had MSE, a virus passed by it, turned it off and installed fake MSE + some other shit.
Safe mode, MBAM, gone. WOO!
Good lord this section has some ignorance going.
Comodo's ~~**AV**~~ is shit. That's what they're testing. That's what's worse than Norton, avast, AVG, etc.
HIPS is part of the FIREWALL. That's what's good. But we're not in a firewall thread, are we?
There's a Kaspersky MIR floating around for Newegg.somewhere, check Slickdeals I think.
Just in case anyone's interested.
I've been using AVG Free for years and it works quite well. My laptop came with McAfee pre-installed. It's awful, but I'm too lazy to uninstall it :v:
Minor update: deleted McAfee (Still have a one-year license left) and replaced it with AVG. My laptop runs so much faster now.
However, I noticed that a lot of users on this board praise Avast. Is it better than AVG? Just curious.

Yes.
Avast! or MSE.
MSE is integrated into windows very well, I recommend you to get it!

Oh wow I feel dumb. Thanks! Is it normal to not have any viruses detected though?

That's a sign of either
a) your computer habits aren't incredibly bad (eg executing every random program)
or
b) avast totally fails at detection
Since avast ranks up there in detection, I'm guessing its 'a'. But if you're paranoid you can download another anti-malware like MBAM/Panda/whatever and scan with those to see if avast missed anything. So in the end it depends on the user's habits.
I don't have any realtime antivirus. I scan with Malwarebytes (free version) on occasion, but I'm an experienced user, so I generally don't run into viruses.
It's been said before but I'll say it again: ESET/NOD32.
I use this, never had a problem but what is everyone's thought on this AV?
On some pcs i use microsoft security essentials since its free (Pcs that i will reformat allot)
Ones that i will never format, i use Trend micro
During a scan itll only use up about 1.5MB of RAM. One bad point is that it blocks websites that could be dogey. Otherwise it provides excellent protection
Avira + MBAM

I'm a very experienced user and I still run an anti-virus because no amount of experience can prevent drive by attacks on websites you actually trust. The whole "common sense" deal is stupid and just an e-penis fight from people who know very little about security.

Because they run around you...
