Disabling that will increase your battery usage..
Guys, are there any cases for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 like that one for the iPad 2 which slides over the screen and then can be used as a stand? I'd like to start using it for notetaking in my high school English Class and probably a few others, so I'd like to not carry around the laptop dock for it all the time if I can just prop it up.
And some handwriting recognition or notetaking app would be nice. My goal is to lighten the load on my backpack and organization skills by uploading all my notes to Google Docs folders.

If you're gonna be doing note taking I would look into getting a stylus. Not the crappy rubber ones, the ones with a brush tip. Something like http://www.maplin.co.uk/retractable-stylus-543966 (I have one of these and it works great on my SGS2 though I don't use it much..)
I have lookout security incase my blade goes walking.
I will probably write my own app to dump GPS co-ordinates to my home server every 10 minutes.
That seems a bit costly to battery life. Perhaps make it so you can change the check-in time from the home server?

Yeah, I already have a crappy rubber one. Had a feeling it was shit. Thanks for the heads up.

Best solution imo is to have some sort of system where the notification is pushed to the phone and from there it automatically turns on the GPS to establish a lock, accuracy and estimated location automatically presented on Google Maps.
[editline]9th September 2011[/editline]
Or just a raw readout of lat/lon, accuracy rating of the fix, etc.
[editline]9th September 2011[/editline]
Also, this is when you hope to god you don't have a phone w/ shitty GPS.

Fast dormancy is not the savior of battery you think it is, there's a good reason why many people say to keep Wi-Fi to never sleep, connecting and d/cing from any sort of mobile data connection is horrific for battery drain.

My battery drains much faster with it off. (SGS2)
Install Plan B right now. Text yourself "Locate". Enjoy your phone's GPS coordinates in your email.
Hmm yeah, too bad the SGS2's GPS sucks and probably won't get a lock at all if the device is indoors.

Are you in an HSPA+ area? That may be one of the main reasons why.
Hmm yeah, too bad the SGS2's GPS sucks and probably won't get a lock at all if the device is indoors.
It's still better than nothing.

Get faster fix and change it.
I'm still jelly of my Dad's Samsung Galaxy SII. I'm stuck with this tiny Wildfire, and while it does the job, the speed difference is not even worth mentioning.
Can't wait for the Nexus Prime, I'm ditching my shitty Hero the second it hits
Get faster fix and change it.
I shouldn't have to root my device to have it functioning properly.

My SGS II GPS is fine. Just as good as phones like the Sensation and LG 2X. Not as good as motorola smartphones though.
[editline]10th September 2011[/editline]
Also if you're not rooting your device and making it "your" device, then why the fuck did you buy an android phone?
i havent rooted because i dont have a use for it
Also if you're not rooting your device and making it "your" device, then why the fuck did you buy an android phone?
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard you say.

He can already customize the shit out of his phone even without rooting. Besides, the phone should work without having to tinker with it. This is why iPhone was so popular.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard you say.
Every app that actually allows for modifications to system files requires root. Even doing something such as installing a system app or removing bloatware requires root. Deodexed firmwares almost always come with superuser installed. So if you actually care about modifying your system then you'll be using a rooted device.
I do like your type argument though. That's dumb but I'm not going to clarify why I think it's dumb. That's quite a dumb sort of statement in itself, perhaps you should examine the intellectual level of your own post if you're going to comment on another one.

The GPS is FUCKING FINE. No reviewer has said it's bad and this is the first user complaint I've ever seen about it. If he's going to complain that his GPS can't get a lock accurate to 1 meter while driving in a car down the highway then he's going to need to do some modifications to get it to his incredibly high standards. And it's going to go past rooting. If he wants it at the level of a dedicated GPS unit he's going to have to do something like install a bloody antenna on the phone.

It's dumb because you're saying you shouldn't buy an Android device if you don't want to mess around rooting it/flashing custom ROMs/etc.
Yeah, why not just use a custom launcher, the only reason I rooted my G1 was because I didn't want to be stuck on 1.6
I will not have this problem with my SGS 2 unless I keep it for a very long time (in smartphone terms)
It's not not my phone just because I haven't rooted.

I never said you shouldn't buy one. I asked what the point was because rooting is so easy. I never said "flashing custom ROMs" so there you go being arrogant and making false quotations just like you did here. That seems to be a trend with your posts.
The fact of the matter is even the person who doesn't know much about technology can root his device because it's made so easy. There's not really a reason NOT to root it. It's very easy to reverse and we have some great tools to make it quick with the click of a button. It's the same thing with jailbreaking for apple devices. Everyone does it and there's really no reason not to do it because there's really no chance of it causing issues and it adds a lot of functionality that you may not even realize you could do until you do it.

Doesn't rooting void your warranty or something like that? I'm not sure whether some people want to risk that happening.
[editline]10th September 2011[/editline]
Wait no, apparently that's only if you return it to them in that state.

Yah that's why a lot of tools we have also have unroot options. It doesn't matter though because repair centers rarely actually check. I sent in my SGS to get my cracked screen fixed and it was running CM7. They didn't even give a shit.

That's different, warranty does not cover accidental damage. You paid for the repair, they did the work you paid for. If you sent it in because of a warranty covered fault they would check.

I didn't pay anything. It's part of the warranty through my EPP plan. Could I see the source where you saw that I handed them money in exchange for the repair?

EPP? Some kind of insurance/cover? Then it's still not covered by a warranty. Manufacturer warranty only covers manufacturing defects/faults not damage caused by the user.
Are there any good Android Phone 1-year carrier contracts?

EPPs are employee pricing plans for certain companies. Mine happens to include a coverage feature where if my device becomes damaged it will be replaced and any fees/charges will be waived. They're special warranties for certain subscribers set up between the carrier and the manufacturer.

The Desire Z on Bell is free with a one year.

EDIT: DZ no longer offered. Sorry.

Sounds exactly like phone insurance. If you didn't have that and you sent your phone in because of a defect and it had CM7 on it they would probably not honour the warranty.
