If your carrier is doing their job when sending out firmwares then it should be set properly. The issues you describe sound exactly like an improperly assigned NTP server. Your carrier sending out non configured firmware has nothing to do with the GPS hardware being faulty.
Also responding to your other post. The "entire" galaxy S line does not suffer from issues. You definitely seem to like to ignore information to suit your argument but it's too obvious of a strategy to try and artificially enhance your argument. I shall quote
The i9000 had a change to the gps chip in oct 2010 because the old one was completely fucking broken. Your position would teleport all over the map and the accuracy was to around 20000 meters.
all Galaxy S devices made after October 2010 have a different GPS chip than the original i9000. It's very accurate and gives results that surpass devices like the LG 2X and HTC Sensation.
A poll on XDA developers is not an accurate and confirmed source of information to whether or not a device does have a fault. Even if it was more than 50% of users confirm that the GPS is indeed accurate and both me and PyroCF can confirm this as well. Again. Your carrier keeping the NTP server as south Korea isn't Samsung's fault.

Yep.
Put Sixaxis Controller on my Advent Vega running VegaComb. PS1, GB, GBA, NES and N64 games all working beautifully.
So what do I do with my phone?
Send it in, wait for 2.3.5, root it, what?
I am being ignored.
I want WIFI :(

We already told you! Pay attention to when people reply. Flash a different modem.

Can you link me a good modem and guide or whatever for flashing my HTC Sensation on Android 2.3.4
I've been trying to google a bit, but I seem to suck at it.
I think it's safe to say that the GPS is draining the battery fucking fast. (SGSII)

I wasn't aware of any firmware being sent out by my carrier? I bought my SGS2 unlocked and unbounded to any particular carrier, should I have recieved a configuration file or something when connecting to their network for the first time?
And the statement that the entire Galaxy line of phones has GPS issues is something I've picked up from reading a bunch of posts on XDA, and the fact that my old Galaxy Spica GPS was next to useless.

Hmm. If you bought the SGS II unlocked you could just flash a CSC for your region and it would apply proper gps, network etc settings.
Ok, network and that jazz seem to be fine, but if I want to fix that NTP configuration - how do I do that and does rooting present any risks, as in, is it possible to ruin my SGS2 beyond any salvation?

No. I just root my phones because I can. XDA should have an easy way to root. After that download faster fix from the market and set it to the closest local server.
My GPS lock time improved alot after i set the NTP server to Finland instead of North America(It was default).
Before it took like 1-2min to get lock and another 1-2min to get the accuracy to 10meters in open area.
Now after i've changed the NTP server it locks in like 30 sec indoors and has 10meter accuracy in about 1min while being indoors, haven't yet tested outside.
The path for the config file is [Root folder/etc/gps.conf] and then i just changed value NTP_SERVER in that file to NTP_SERVER=fi.pool.ntp.org.
But yea this is on SGS not SGS2 but i believe it could help also on SGS2.
Also damn my phone is so much faster after i converted RFS -> EXT4 with CF-Root EXT4 Tool.
Are you adding the ones with the numbers in front or the general one?

I had problems too but that changed when I turned of the use of sensors for GPS.

Eh, I wouldn't say GPS is better than Motorola, but it's definitely on par with HTC, maybe trailing just a bit in the accuracy department (if 2 meters more accurate is seriously such a big deal), but in the SGSII it's fine.
My brother's Captivate, once again, using GPS test reports a solid lock within 10 seconds and jumps between 5 and 10 meters.
[editline]11th September 2011[/editline]
Also in theory if the SiRFStar IV chip in the SGSII works as advertised, in theory this chip would be able to get accuracy down to around 1-2 meters in the US.
It's just whether the software will do it, and the antenna is done right.

For those trying to get root but don't want to get off the stock ROM, just do temp-root, get ES File explorer and turn on root and set system to R/W, go to the system apps folder and change the extension of any bloatware from .apk to .bak or something, DL FasterFix and change the NTP server, then turn off the root explorer, delete FasterFix, reboot.
You'll have a stock ROM with bloatware gone and better GPS.
Any news about the Nexus Prime lately? for verizon?

Anyone who is still on a CDMA carrier should stop caring about what phones they get/use. You're choosing to support a carrier using an outdated standard that is only still alive because they use it, and this choice is limiting your selection of devices. If you want a large variety of choices for devices then switch to UMTS.
Isn't that amazing about using standard frequencies on a standard network type? It doesn't matter if a device comes to your carrier because you can just buy it and it will work on your network.

So what you're saying is, because we want to use a network that has the best coverage in the US, we should just stop caring about what phones we use?

You talk like it's always our choice, Verizon just happens to partnered with my fathers job so he get's discounts, and because our monetary situation is so bad we can do nothing but stick with them.
So maybe next time you could be helpful and answer the question instead of being an asshat.

Also, this. I'm on it because of the family discount.
And Verizon is the juggernaut of the telecom industry in the US, most suscribers, etc.
[editline]11th September 2011[/editline]
Admittedly Verizon is more meh for 3G data speeds, but they've deployed LTE first, and any LTE phone will kick the shit out of HSPA+ and HSPA any day of the week.

Verizon is tops when it comes to their internet service. I always wish we had their FIBE service here.
But whether or not LTE is consistently better remains to be seen. Remember their LTE network does not have near the amount of people on it as other HSPA networks. What download speeds does Verizon advertise as the typical speeds? I get anywhere from 9-15Mbps on my SGS II.

Nice try using a falsified claim to further your argument. Verizon coverage maps don't account for the fact that most of their microwave based towers actually CAN'T provide the coverage their maps list. No proper investigation has taken place by inspecting the towers of each carrier to determine who has the best coverage.
I'm thinking of buying the Asus Transformer when I go to America (in about a month)
Are there any other Android tablets I should look at?

Just received my USB OTG cable from eBay. Got a USB mouse plugged in, works great. Not that it's particularly useful, but it can be done, and that fact alone is reason enough!

I wasn't using that stupid map, I was using personal experience. None of the people I know that are on Verizon (several dozen) have ever complained about signal quality or coverage. I never lose it unless I'm in a basement or heavily surrounded by walls, and even then I can eek out a minor signal.

So you've based the claim that Verizon coverage is 100% the best everywhere in the US because you've personally had good experience with them.
I wasn't aware claims like that required nothing more than personal experience and preference.

Don't mean for it to sound that way, but I'd imagine coverage is just as good. Generally speaking, I can't recall even seeing people complain about Verizon's service on forums. Phones, yes, but not coverage. I'm not saying it's PERFECT, but I've no doubt it's better than the rest of the big four.
I like MIUI's battery life.
