If I use ROM Manager's Nightly feature for CM, will it delete my contacts/apps/etc like flashing a ROM normally does?

A nightly ROM is no different from a normal one except that they tend to be unstable. They're the latest revision of a ROM, and generally not release builds. Think of them as betas.

Right, so I should do a Titanium Backup before flashing?

And one through the recovery. Take no chances.
Wow. I can't respect anybody who trusts ol' charlie. You realize the guy publishes Nvidia hate articles because he broke their NDA and they stopped letting him review their stuff. Truly a professional who can be trusted 100%.
Of course, but seeing as how he and SemiAccurate have been responsible for some pretty accurate leaks on tech in general, there is at least some validity. I always take everything with appropriate grains of salt, however.
He publishes Nvidia hate articles because there was a lot to hate on at first, shitty yields for the first gen Fermis that couldn't have the full complement of shaders, the huge problem with mobile 8600 GPUs that caused the GPU die to fall off the PCB after something like 7 months, the fact that they were immensely late with 2nd gen Fermi, the fact that ATI/AMD now has a 6 month lead on GPUs due to better designs to work with the TSMC 40nm. While yeah, he has a lot to hate on for Nvidia, he's pretty well-balanced about reporting what's really going on in tech, like the fact that Global Foundries' 32 nm design has about a 50 percent yield, which is why AMD made it so that they only pay per good die.
I got my Galaxy S II today, my first foray into Android and touchscreen phones (upgraded from a Blackberry Curve 8520).
And I have to say it's absolutely blown me away.
If you don't want themes, start out at first with just a standard ROM with perf tweaks and general upgraded UI (percentage in battery bar, extended quick settings in notifications, zipaligning, general pointless crap like error reporting to Samsung or something turned off, etc) for the best possible experience for your GSII. Also the ability to o/c with the right kernel should be a boon.

Also, HSPA+ is probably going to top out at around half-way to LTE Advanced. LTE should allow much more headroom.
T-Mobile USA, if it manages to keep afloat, I expect whenever LTE Advanced is finalized, they will start testing that and skip straight from HSPA+ to true 4G.
I hope sprint rolls out timely updates for the SGS II. I don't feel like another year of Americans claiming Samsung is the worst at updating their phones.
I bet your ass that Samsung will have their updates pretty much out within a month of their international SGSII updates, but Sprint/AT&T will tack on something like 4 months of "carrier testing".

The hilarious part is the stock modem already supports AT&T. So carrier testing is "We procrastinated for 4 months and then threw in some bloatware."

Yep. :v:
Hey guys I got a samsung gio on my birthday and I've had it for a while but it often uses my quota really fast, is there any app where I can restrict websites?
I am on OPTUS so I get free Facebook and twitter I just want to disable every other website so I don't blow my limit (100mb)
So I convinced my dad to buy me a droid bionic for my birthday this weekend but I'm wondering if the 1 gb of ram, and 4g make it worth $100 than the droid 3

Erm...but you're not paying for it. Will you get more presents if you go with the cheaper one??
Well if don't want to use a language your opinions become weaker and the solutions less powerful than actual programming but you should check out the app inventor
I din't mean I don't want to learn Java.
I mean, are there any good android+java tutorials ?

$100 is a lot of money, I don't want to waste it

Basically you have to just turn off mobile data when you aren't actively using it.

The Droid 3 is said to be RAM starved. It won't be worth 300 dollars once the Droid Prime rolls out though.

Basically wait for the Droid Prime, someone already managed to get their hands on the device at a trade show, and it is apparently running Gingerbread right now. Only a home button I believe.

I'm slightly disappointed by the amount of Android apps with proper tablet support. There are some apps that work really good like Tweetcaster HD and Dolphin HD, but most apps are -really- stretched and stuff. I'm expecting that when Icecream Sandwich is released the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be upgraded to it. Icecream Sandwich should really "force" apps to be more tablet/higher resolution compliant.

So, awaiting a HTC desire z / samsung galaxy ace on thursday
One thing I'm scared about is the data fees, My contract is not set up for data, is there an option to only update apps and widgets and other things when I am at my home WiFi, or connected to any WiFi?
God I really don't know what I'd do without this thread, and I don't even have the phone yet :v:
Had GO Launcher for two days until I just noticed a short while ago that a annoying blue pixel kept blinking in the middle, almost thought something was wrong with the screen itself.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Go to network settings and disable data connection. The 3G/H logo in the top bar should disappear and this will disable all transmitting of data.
Also the DZ smokes the Ace.
Samsung Galaxy SII Epic Touch 4g (Fucking stupid name IMO) came out today. Every other carrier no.

Also, I just discovered how awesome Tasker is!

I still don't see why they needed Touch in there. Maybe because the first Epic had a keyboard?
Touch screens aren't uncommon anymore. In fact, they're standard, Android is built around them. Hell, I took out my Kindle in school and some of my friends tried to turn pages by swiping the screen. They're no longer a marketing scheme or gimic.

Another thing is that if this is a fresh setup ROM, on first run it will ask you whether you want to use mobile data/wifi or just wifi.
http://phandroid.com/2011/09/16/anonymous-4chan-user-also-talks-about-the-samsung-galaxy-s-iii/
I was skeptical about the resolution being one with a 5:4 aspect ratio. But the iphone is a 3:2(6:4) aspect ratio so it could work with a screen that's more iphone like when it comes to the shape than current android phones.
Keep in mind this was a poster on 4chan, but the specs do seem to make sense for what Samsung typically does as a hardware jump between generations.
[editline]17th September 2011[/editline]
A commenter did some math
just doing some math here... if we assume a 16:9 ratio, then a width of 1024 would give us a height of 1820... so it's possible he got the 2 and the 8 mixed up.
However, at a ppi of 352, we end up with a screen size just short of 6 inches, so that's unlikely. If we stick to a screen size of 4.65 inches, and go with this resolution, the ppi would be 449.
So I guess those specs are bullshit. Quite a shame really.
