I'm going to say that it was bullshit as soon as he said 1280x1024. Phones are going for being longer in the hand instead of wider. For some reason 16:10 disappeared as a standard for most screens, so 16:9 is here to stay, especially in phones.
2 GHz is completely doable though, at 28 nm it should be able to keep reasonable power consumption, quad core will probably ship like mid-2012 CY. Of course, who knows if it's actually going to come out in A15 guise. I think Krait will be competitive with Cortex A15, but only if they keep their clock speed and number of cores in lockstep with the competition.
I think 720p will be hitting the upper bound of what will be considered reasonable for phones. Only the very high end phones will have it at first, with mid-range devices having qHD, and low end sticking with WVGA 800x480.
Beats on HTC phones might be a good thing because apparently the Beats-enabled ROMs ported to other phones actually make the external speaker sound less like it's using tin cans. The fact that the Desire HD has been updated to Sense 3.0 and the fact that it's actually very smooth and doesn't use any more RAM than it did before is incredible.
If ICS has HW acceleration sense could be awesome.
I think a time is going to come where phones won't be able to get better until batteries catch up.
I hate stock ROMs, the battery life on this phone was soo bad before I removed all the stupid news widgets and made them stop updating, and everything else, horrible experience. I hate verizon.
I think a time is going to come where phones won't be able to get better until batteries catch up.
power consumption decreases as well.

GPU acceleration is already in the Sense launcher. Always has.
The Desire HD runs pretty damn snappy at 1 GHz with a full Sense 3.0 ROM.

Reposting for new page.
I know everyone dislikes Qualcomm for their less than stellar performing SoCs, but it seems like HTC still makes compelling phones with them:

Hooray, looks like the Incredible.

Phones become more efficient all the time.

GPU acceleration doesn't do much when both the cpu and gpu are garbage. Also clearly your defintion of "snappy" is around 24 frames per second, because that's what the Sense 3.0 animations run at on the Sensation and EVO 3D. When I heard the word snappy I think of animations running at 60fps like on the SGSII.

I have complete faith that Krait will smoke every other SoC when it releases. The problem with Qualcomm's strategy is that once the other manufacturers go past A15 qualcomm gets left in the dust again. It's a really poor strategy.

Phone looks exactly the same as the rest (not a bad thing) and the specs are really HNNNNNNG

Indeed the specs look quite nice. Unfortunately that 720p display is a SLCD display and not an IPS or OLED one. I'll be waiting for a 720p AH-IPS or SAMOLED+. Other than that and the scorpion cores being slightly slow it's a compelling phone. The picture there looks a bit small to be a 4.5" screen but that's probably just due to it being a press image.

Also speaking of screens. Looks like Samsung better bring something to push OLED screens ahead. AH-IPS from LG looks like it's going to come out on top when going up against SAMOLED+.

They need to find a solution to burn in too.
Hoping it will beat Iphone 5. Also, I'm changing my mind. Screw the galaxy note, I'm getting the Galaxy S III.

You realize there's no confirmation of anything about the Galaxy S III right? The Galaxy Note is a product that we know exists and has confirmed specs.
Have fun never buying any phone because you're always waiting for the next generation one.
Does anyone know if the Motorola Xoom will have ICS?
Does anyone know if the Motorola Xoom will have ICS?
That depends on if Moto feels like updating it to ICS. Outside the US the Xoom isn't a google experience device and thus is at the mercy of Motorola when it comes to updates.
Does anyone know if the Motorola Xoom will have ICS?
No, but it most likely will. It is a Google experience device and Motorola is now owned by Google too.
It is a Google experience device.
From what I understand outside the US it isn't a GED.
[editline]17th September 2011[/editline]
the 3.1 update has not yet been provided for European and Canadian variants.
Not a google experience device where he lives.

I didn't know that. I guess that makes it a lot less likely.

So you own the wifi version? The EU 3G version is still on 3.0.

Yep, WiFi 32GB, version 3.1.
Yep, WiFi 32GB, version 3.1.
Then you DIDN'T get all the latest updates. Honeycomb is on 3.2 now.

Ah, sorry about that, this is my first android device and I don't really know anything about the different versions.

Yah it's no problem. Truth be told if you don't get an official ICS update people will just take the ICS release from the US GED version of the Xoom and make it work on the EU one.

The Xperia what? You realize every sony android phone has the word xperia in it right? Also there's no sony phone in a price range that doesn't have a better alternative from HTC, Samsung or LG.
