i9000 owners. 2.3.5 is here. Honestly there's not really any differences from our 2.3.3 ones from months ago but WHATEVER!
Shit. I meant Xperia Play.
The play is one of the worst cell phones I've ever seen in my entire life. Barely any games support the gamepad, the screen is the worst I've ever seen on a smartphone, and it's got a SoC that was never made to run games.
I'm looking at verizon's website and it seems they've never heard of inbetween level devices. You either pay $99 or you pay $199. Nothing is for like $149.
Do yourself a favor and save up that extra to get a Droid X2 or a Droid 3. If your budget is a firm $100 then see if any Verizon stores still sell the fascinate. It's a hell of a lot better than the play.
[editline]17th September 2011[/editline]
Why the hell is the droid incredible 2 the same price as the Droid X2 and Droid 3? It's over a generation behind them in terms of hardware!
I can get a great deal on the Droid X, (not X2) but I heard its buggy as fuck. Any truth to that?

Wow, Verizon is ridicolously expensive:

It's also funny how the iPhone 4 doesn't qualify as a "Superphone". :v: (because of the tiny screen)
I also like the Optimus Black White
I now have a Galaxy S. I'm not rich enough to getting anything newer/better, but I'm happy with it.

Still the best single core phone, I'm still using mine even though I got the S2(for music).
GPU acceleration doesn't do much when both the cpu and gpu are garbage. Also clearly your defintion of "snappy" is around 24 frames per second, because that's what the Sense 3.0 animations run at on the Sensation and EVO 3D. When I heard the word snappy I think of animations running at 60fps like on the SGSII.
Um, for some reason the stock Sensation and EVO 3D are both laggy for some reason, but I'm used to Sense 2.1 (also GPU accelerated) and with a smoothness patch for the Launcher it stays pretty damn close to 60 FPS. Sense 3.0 will definitely have a performance hit, but with the proper patches for smoothness it isn't all that bad.
I have complete faith that Krait will smoke every other SoC when it releases. The problem with Qualcomm's strategy is that once the other manufacturers go past A15 qualcomm gets left in the dust again. It's a really poor strategy.
And from here on out we just hope and pray that HTC gets their shit in gear and starts making their nicely designed phones with better specs. It'd be quite nice to see the AH-IPS screen and TI's OMAP 4 SoCs all in one.
HTC was pretty much the shit back then, but I think they fell behind in making better technology.

Samsung should definitely make a 250 USD Galaxy S Wifi with a 4 inch screen and trash the iPod Touch.
Indeed I'm going to replace my old phone + iPod Touch combination with only my new Galaxy S.
Will feel great to carry less devices.

You shouldn't need "smoothness patches" for a launcher to be smooth.
As for hardware. I remember back when WM6.5 was big that HTC was the best of the best. The HD2 and the HTC touch were badass phones. But they've definitely screwed themselves with their reliance on SLCD screens and qualcomm processors.
HD2 wasn't a badass phone, it still is.

Weirdly, the smoothness patch is just things that it seems like HTC forgot to include. There's no functional difference, but the FPS increases a great deal.
Basically, the only possible selling point that HTC now has is either Sense or Beats, and maybe the metal unibody. All are kind of divisive. HTC has never been up to snuff in the screen and battery department, and now it feels like their designs are subpar compared to what's coming out.

If the Vigor launched with specs like this, I'd probably like it a lot more.

A 720p AH-IPS display sound nice, but a scorpion based CPU doesn't.
Still the best single core phone, I'm still using mine even though I got the S2(for music).
How is the SGS II actually when it comes to music experience?
A 720p AH-IPS display sound nice, but a scorpion based CPU doesn't.
It doesn't, but if it launched back in June or earlier it would have been a good phone. The trouble is that now 720p is going to start becoming common, and it's going to be important to have an SoC that can actually have the grunt to push all those pixels.
Either way, at least the screen and battery are up to snuff.

Disappointing when compared to the SGS I
How is the SGS II actually when it comes to music experience?
The SGS was the best of the best for music. The SGS II is just average.
The SGS was the best of the best for music. The SGS II is just average.
Average, but I presume it's way better than the Sony Ericsson W995 right? :v:
Going to be honest, I think an all-plastic exterior makes far more sense than a metal design. While metal feels nice, it adds a lot of weight and makes it hard for it to be thin.
Average, but I presume it's way better than the Sony Ericsson W995 right? :v:
Uh yah. It's just not as good with hi-fi equipment like the Sennheiser HD500 series.

Going to be honest. I still disagree that S-IPS and P-IPS are better than SAMOLED+. But you're definitely right when you say AH-IPS is better than SAMOLED+.

The Desire HD looks and feels really nice. Much better than the SGS2 in my opinion, but when I held it, it felt like it was at least twice as heavy (it probably isn't :v:)
Retoasting
Why get a Droid X? It's pretty far behind the curve. Save up a bit.
The Desire HD looks and feels really nice. Much better than the SGS2 in my opinion, but when I held it, it felt like it was at least twice as heavy (it probably isn't :v:)
Desire HD=164 g (5.8 oz)
i9100=116 g (4.1 oz)
the thinness of the SGS II contributes to it feeling lighter.
How much does a Galaxy S II cost in the USA? Just wondering.

I love my DHD dearly (yes it's a DHD I refuse to call it an Inspire), but it's a lot of weight to put up with when I have to put a case on it anyway. The sheer selection of ROMs is great though, there's Runnymede, Bliss, Desire S, and native DHD ROMs that are all pretty good.

But at the end of the day OLED is probably going to become king, if you use a theme where almost everything is kept as black as possible, then the power consumption of the screen drops pretty radically. For now, AH-IPS is better from average power consumption. The problem is just that AH-IPS may only be LG exclusive.
[editline]17th September 2011[/editline]
Probably the most disappointing thing is while in smartphones and tablets we're seeing serious innovation for screens, it's just a retarded race to the bottom with TN panels and just plain bad color reproduction and gamut for conventional computers.

Yah I think we all know what Google had in mind when they made the entire Gingerbread UI black.
[editline]18th September 2011[/editline]
As for PCs having shitty TN panels as the standard. We are seeing some good improvement in the PC scene. HP just revealed a 27" 2560x1440 P-IPS monitor(which I plan to buy as soon as it comes to market). Previously for a P-IPS monitor above 1920x1200 you were paying $1000-$1500 bucks.
TouchPal is pretty awesome
If only in would support theme changes... I love how gingerbread keyboard looks
TouchPal 5 has skin support

Yeah, it's great, but pretty much every laptop has this rule that the monitor must be shit.

Galaxy S is free on AT&T, get that.
My phone is due for an upgrade soon. I really want any Android phone, but I can't afford a data plan at this point in time. I'm upgrading from a Samsung Eternity, and want to know what phones are available for AT&T without a data plan. Any ideas?
Galaxy S is free on AT&T, get that.
If he was contemplating getting the Xperia play then he's clearly on Verizon.
I heard that the Galaxy SII comes out on AT&T tomorrow. That true?

Wait, it's free? When I check the price on att.com it says it's 50 dollars.
[editline]eqwfnwe[/editline]
Yeah, I even checked after clicking "upgrade this line" and it still said it was 50 dollars.
