I kind of have to question what one would do with a quad core phone that one could not do with a dual core phone.
There is just no point making the phones even more powerful, even with ICS coming out real soon, which'll feature hardware acceleration, a quad-core phone is just an overkill.
Computers can never be too powerful.
Computers can never be too powerful.
http://www.futuretimeline.net/the-far-future.htm#computer-science :eng101: We might hit this point in a 1000 years or in a million years, but a processor can only compute so much per cm². No processor will ever be able to simulate more than itself down to the sub-atomic level.
The question is, who is going to program an app to utilize four cores? It would obviously be handy when rendering models and stuff, but who the hell would ever use, say, 3DSMax on a 4-5" screen? We've had quad cores in our computers for several years now and software that utilize them all properly are scarce. Quad-core phones will be confined to a niche market for people with hardons for bleeding edge tech.
Before making smartphones any more powerful, what they have to do is make their batteries last longer..
The problem isn't the batteries themselves, it's that phone manufacturers keep making these ultra-slim phones with tiny batteries and power-hungry CPUs, screens, ect. I was playing around with a friend's Galaxy S2 and was fairly impressed, until he said that he bought a second battery off eBay since the silly thing doesn't last throughout the day with his usage.
Looks like the tabled have turned. http://apple.slashdot.org/story/11/09/19/1728226/Samsung-Plans-To-Block-the-iPhone-5-In-Korea
Getting my Sony Xperia play tomorrow. It's my first Android phone. Anything I should know beforehand?
Getting my Sony Xperia play tomorrow. It's my first Android phone. Anything I should know beforehand?
Very few games use that pad. I strongly recommend considering a different phone. But if you're set on it, get Minecraft. Might as well put the gamepad to some use and try it out. Also, you may want to look into rooting it in advance, just to get a feel for the concept and the steps you need to take, as well as to gather whatever supplies or resources you need.

I plan on using emulators sure, but I like the timescape interface and it's only $49.99 with my contract.

Verizon's got a few decent ones up there.

Timescape is on the same level as motoblur.

Gah, if Verizon really does mangle the nexus prime i hope someone can set up a way to install the firmware from the nonmangled Nexus Primes on it...
I have AT&T, and I get a nice bundle that includes headphones, aux cable, and a dock.
Oh you're buying the new AT&T one? With so many great choices on AT&T why get the play? The screen is dull, depressing and lifeless. And the hardware is something you'd get on a phone from early 2010. You've got great choices like the Atrix, Infuse and Inspire. Why get the crappy play just so you get some headphones and a dock?
Does nandroid backup the ROM itself? I need a 100% correct answer, because I am going to give MIUI a testdrive [editline]20th September 2011[/editline] Street Fighter 4 for droid This is the only game I have wanted on my droid http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/19/street-fighter-iv-coming-to-android-exclusive-to-lg-at-first/
Is that FP Android app still being made? I want it :v:
Is that FP Android app still being made? I want it :v:
Overv kinda dropped the development for it :( [editline]20th September 2011[/editline] I have just zipped MIUI.US rom ontop of my CM7 rom That was a bad try, now I'll try wiping my data first [editline]20th September 2011[/editline] SWEET, MIUI is awesome I think I will leave it for some time now [editline]20th September 2011[/editline] Guys, I have a question Can I have like two alternate ROMS by switching between my nandroid backups? When I restore a backup all the data gets erased, right?
Oh you're buying the new AT&T one? With so many great choices on AT&T why get the play? The screen is dull, depressing and lifeless. [editline]19th September 2011[/editline] You can alternate two ROMS via Nandroid, if you have a Desire HD/Inspire 4G and the two ROMs both are Sense or AOSP then there's a way to get both ROMs simultaneously running as long as they share a kernel. [editline]19th September 2011[/editline] Try to get CWMR 5.x.x for your phone if possible, or if you're on some sort of HTC phone look up 4EXTRecovery to see if your phone is supported. Both will keep your file system instead of reverting to ext3 by default. [editline]19th September 2011[/editline] Nandroid is a full backup of just about everything in your phone, including Dalvik cache and your cache partition. [editline]19th September 2011[/editline] I think the Infuse has about as much dev support as the Atrix, the Inspire 4G has a bunch more since it's ROMs are essentially able to directly run DHD ROMs with a patch for audio.

The only thing is that it fucks up TouchWiz, and other apps to an extent.

Droids are Motorola's.
I've been off school with a fever, so I've spent all day in bed looking at android apps and roms on my dads iPad :v: Just wondering, I was planning on installing Gameboid, I can map the keys to the desire z's physical keyboard right? and do away with the onscreen controls alltogether?
Just wondering, I was planning on installing Gameboid, I can map the keys to the desire z's physical keyboard right? and do away with the onscreen controls alltogether?
Yep that's possible, just tried myself. I still prefer the on-screen controls with gameboid myself though.
Yep that's possible, just tried myself. I still prefer the on-screen controls with gameboid myself though.
I'm not sure, I hate not being able to feel if I am on the button or not, thanks anyway
I'm not sure, I hate not being able to feel if I am on the button or not, thanks anyway
It's more because the buttons are so damn small for game control use that bothers me.
