Android Thread V4 - Got money? Samsung Galaxy S II. No money? ZTE Blade.
How long are you planning to keep it, and how much money are you willing to spend? Nexus S is a very solid device, but I'd wait for October, because Ice Cream Sandwich, Nexus Prime and a billion of other devices should come soon.
For about a year or two. Maybe even longer. I kept my first generation iPhone up until today, actually. Money isn't really a problem, I have about 500 to throw away at whatever I want (want to save the other 700 for other stuff) and the Nexus S seemed like a really good choice (it's advertised to be ~300 in some stores) - I hoped on getting the Nexus S in my hands at the end of this month but alas
Well, the best phone right now is Galaxy S2, but I don't know how much does it cost in Netherlands.
It's just that a new wave of devices is coming very soon, so I'd rather wait before buying anything.

To be fair my preference always goes towards devices that are fairly new but not 'newest' - that way if I ever want to change things or it breaks down I don't have to wait for weeks for troubleshooting or FAQ'sto come available. I'm really impatient, heh.
Yeah the Galaxy S2 was one of my choices at first, but I don't want to get a phone with a monthly subscription and the Nexus S seems to be one of the few newer/latest Android smartphones available with their SIMs unlocked and also available as prepaid. (I'm adding a seperate internet/3G subscription to it, though)

I suppose the Nexus S is a fair choice, and I'll look into the new devices coming out. Thanks :~)
Ah, alright then.
Right now the only downside to Nexus S is that you can't add an SD card, although you do get 16GB inside.
And since it's a Nexus device, you should get all the updates on day 1, and then there's community support...

Also, if you can, look for the i9020 model (AMOLED+), which is apparently better than i9023 (S-LCD)

64GB+16GB internal on the SGSII. 80GB to store my FLAC files and my Movies.
Also it works on the original SGS? That's surprising.
Apparently Nexus Prime's app list leaked:

And it's heading for Verizon. I call fake on this one.

Yeah the AMOLED+ is a no-go, Netherlands only imported superLCD :(
the 16GB isn't a problem either, i make a good playlist that contains songs from the artists i like which is generally around 2-3GB. I managed to work with the 4GB that comes on the now-ancient iPhone 2G for years!
[editline]29th September 2011[/editline]
i don't know why they skipped on the AMOLED+, it's really dumb
Not enough supply.

They very well could have a CDMA version for Verizon, but any site that reports it will be a Verizon exclusive isn't a credible site, because it simply would make no sense.
Another possibility is a CDMA/UMTS/LTE modem. But the problem there is Verizon is a bunch of assholes who will only accept Verizon ESNs. Google would have to negotiate a deal with them to allow any nexus prime to work on their network.
So, the merge begins. The markets are becoming very similar.

You drained a battery in 80 seconds? Holy shit.
You drained a battery in 80 seconds? Holy shit.
It was quite funny, I was just sitting there thinking 'Why the fuck is the battery going down by 5% every second!?"
After running PowerTOP and fixing it I get about 1h30m.
Faulty battery?
Faulty battery?
Battery is perfectly fine. I get 2hrs as normal on Windows.
Anyway back on topic, it seems SE are going down the same route as Samsung in regards to CM

Seriously, just change out the modem for something actually used by international countries and I would be all over it.

Meh, I'll be excited when they get a Cortex A15 into an SoC and with a clockspeed higher than 1.5 GHz.
Uh I just presented tons of evidence that RGBW screens render text just as well as RGB ones, and your counter argument is just saying "the difference is noticeable" and not presenting any evidence.
Even if it were a good counter argument I would like to know which RGBW based device you have beside your SGS II to compare the screens.
How can you provide evidence for something like that? Would you like me to lend you my eyes? Your images show that there clearly is a difference but whether or not the difference is acceptable is entirely opinion and that's what you're trying to dismiss, other people's opinions.

My images show that the rendering between RGBG and RGB is different. The image also shows that RGBW renders JUST AS WELL as RGB does. You claim I'm trying to dismiss other peoples opinions yet you're dismissing key evidence in somebody's argument in order to try and make them seem incorrect. This has been a trend with your arguments since these threads started and it's become tiresome.
PenTile really is not a huge deal.
I played with someone's Atrix for a few minutes before, there really is not a "whoa whoa why is this so blurry" feeling even comparing it to my DHD.
I noticed that on the Captivate with the stock GB battery symbol with percentage in the battery, I could definitely notice visible aliasing, but I'm guessing this is the result of the specific color pattern (green with white inscribed text).
Was going to flash stock Bell to XXKI3, but heard bad things about battery life and network speeds?
New high end camera phones announced.

Dell's Streak Pro isn't the only newly-announced Android on its way to Japanese carrier SoftBank. We've also heard of new models on the way from Panasonic and Sharp, both with some quite-high-resolution cameras.
Panasonic will be bringing the carrier its Lumix 101P with a nice big lens and 13.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor. The Android will arrive running Gingerbread, and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core TI processor. Its display measures-in at four inches, and will be in qHD. Waterproofing certification will let you risk a little moisture while trying to snap the perfect shot.
Sharp's Aquos 102SH is also driven by a dual-core 1GHz TI chip and has waterproofing, but its camera is just a bit lower-res at 12 megapixels, and it doesn't have quite the elaborate lens of the Lumix. What it does offer is a full 720p 4.5-inch display with autostereoscopic 3D effects. Again, look for Gingerbread on-board.
There's a chance that the Aquos could find a home outside Japan in the future, but there's no word regarding the Lumix. That one should hit Japan in November, with the Aquos following in December.
Oh my Cthulhu, those phones are monstrous. In the good way.
How good is this tablet?
http://www.yarvik.com/en/products/tablets/tablets_7/TAB210/
Can get one for ridiculously cheap, and I plan to only use it for webbrowsing, PDF files and as a E-book in general
The sharp one has some nice specs but my god. That UI, it hurts to even look at it.

800x480 on a 7" screen with a 600MHz cpu won't be good for reading text or for web browsing. Also resistive touchscreens are terrible. Unless you can get it for like $50 I'd stay away.

I got the TAB211, and I'm very happy with it.
If you want to get a rather cheap tablet, it's the way to go. But don't expect to do much with it other than ereading, and browsing might be rather slow at times with the default browser.
Should I get the Asus Transformer tab or the Galaxy 10.1?
Should I get the Asus Transformer tab or the Galaxy 10.1?
The Galaxy doesn't have SD card slot, so you will be stuck with 16GB.
However, the Asus doesn't have 3G, so you wouldn't be able to access internet anywhere.
If you don't download a lot, and like the touch keyboard, get the Galaxy.
If you don't need 3G, but will need more than 16GB, and if you prefer a normal keyboard, get the Asus and keyboard dock.

I love Samsung products, but for function over form the Transformer is a clear winner, especially with the new 64GB Sandisk SDXC cards working in the Transformer. That means if you have the 32GB transformer+a Sandisk SDXC card you'll have 96GB total storage, that's a massive amount of space for stuff like HD movies and any app you ever wanted.
Isn't the Transformer 3G being released next month?
