Is there a release for Android on the Touchpad yet? Finally got my $100 Touchpad from HP after waiting about six weeks.
Do you know the best part about Android? I just flashed, formatted and reinstalled the OS on my phone, sans cables. Where? ON THE TOILET. And do you know what? Click for punchline Haha
http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/30/atandt-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/ eeeeeeeeeeik!
I'm glad AT&T didn't butcher the overall design like they did with the captivate. Essentially they just replaced the home button with softkeys. [editline]30th September 2011[/editline] Also I laughed when the Engadget writers said they were heavy multitaskers on their phones even though their iPhones can't actually multitask.
Also I laughed when the Engadget writers said they were heavy multitaskers on their phones even though their iPhones can't actually multitask.
iOS 4 can multitask. Anyway, I feel like Engadget lost a lot of its Apple-fanboyism in the last months.
Good (for Americans), I don't like the hardware homebutton. It feels a bit flimsy.
Feels fine on mine, but I'm really used to the feel of a hardware button from my original Galaxy S and from my old ipod touch so that's probably a factor.
iOS 4 can multitask. Anyway, I feel like Engadget lost a lot of its Apple-fanboyism in the last months.
I agree. Perhaps they hired new writers. As for multitasking...
Rather than run multiple apps at the same time, iOS4 freezes the ones that aren't in use, with the exception of certain functions. Music, for instance, can play in the background, VoIP apps can answer calls and GPS apps can give directions. But most apps won't do anything except go to sleep, which means one of the classic tricks of multitasking, loading one task while you perform another, is not available unless the developer adds that function under a special task completion API. Some apps, such as Flickr, may take advantage of this feature for large file transfers, but others won't. Waiting for a YouTube video to buffer over a 3G connection? It won't go anywhere unless you're staring at the loading screen.
Most apps just sit there idling. That ain't multitasking.
Feels fine on mine, but I'm really used to the feel of a hardware button from my original Galaxy S and from my old ipod touch so that's probably a factor.
Flimsy might have been an overstatement. It just feels like it will be the first thing that breaks. The hardware buttons on my Spica felt much sturdier. And it had a d-pad and a camera button which I miss a lot :(
Most apps just sit there idling. That ain't multitasking.
What I don't like about Androids multitasking is that you never know how it will work. For instance I'm still not sure if the browser(s) keep loading while I'm doing something else. Also that horrible FB app keeps using 40% CPU while the phone should be asleep at least every other day.
Is there any way to get webOS-like "cards" multitasking on Android? There's Itching Thumb, but it was removed from the Market...
Is there any way to get webOS-like "cards" multitasking on Android? There's Itching Thumb, but it was removed from the Market...
Not that I know of. You know the guy who did a lot of the design for webOS works for google now right? I would bet he's had some influence on how multitasking is handled in ICS.

I thought the supposed ICS leak had a multitasking menu.
I thought the supposed ICS leak had a multitasking menu.
It does. In my opinion it's still completely inferior to the webOS multitasking system because it's just a small scale version of the honeycomb one.
I really wish money would go into making phone batteries more advanced, soon people will be running out every hour or so But we hit a brick wall with battery technology, so I can dream :saddowns:
But we haven't hit a brick wall with making chips and radios more efficient. I discovered something a few minutes ago. Quite a few Samsung, Nokia and Sony phones have the microphone and ground connections switched from the "Standard" that most headsets use. I didn't feel like buying an adapter to use my Meelectronics M9Ps with my Samsung Galaxy Spica, since Meelectronics was selling one for $10 (Around $15-20 shipped to Canada), though I did find this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/3-5mm-Headset-Adapter-Samsung-Omnia-II-2-GALAXY2-II-/120782221320?pt=PDA_Accessories It looks like it will do the same thing as the other adapter, except for $2 with free shipping. I'll give it a shot, though the shipping can take anywhere from 7 to 22 days due to it shipping from Hong Kong.

Samsung did it on the SGS because it allows for video out through the headphone jack. I don't think their SGS II has it swapped though because it has the MHL port. Anyway let us know if it works.

Whatever, even if it doesn't work, I bought two and it ended up being cheaper than buying lunch at school.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-Amaze-4G-shows-off-its-muscle-in-this-video_id22586 T-Mobile, weirdly, has faster HSPA+ service than Verizon's LTE. http://www.phonearena.com/news/The-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-has-passed-through-the-FCC-with-AT-T-bands_id22592 Hmmmm...... this could be interesting. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Verizons-big-trio-appears-on-Cellebrite-system-HTC-Vigor-Google-Nexus-Prime-and-Motorola-DROID-HD_id22594 A. If the Nexus Prime doesn't have a sensor with a high contrast range and extremely good low-light performance, the camera will make me sadfrog. B. HTC Vigor is great, but it needs a good IPS display and either an ST-Ericsson Cortex A9 SoC w/ Mali 400 or just go home. Beats is great, but they need it to be enabled for any headphones/earbuds. In essence, great specs, but it needs more to push it over the top to really outshine the iPhone 5 and Samsung's smartphones. C. Droid HD sounds very interesting, the OLED screen sounds odd though.

I'm not going to put up with google making us wait an entire year for a new OS version and then selling the rights to the flagship device to one carrier that only has a network in one country, even if it's only for a launch day. It's insulting to developers and it would be insulting to people who have waited for the next google device ever since the announcement of ICS.
Guys, what are some good rims for the galaxy s II? I've been using miui, should I change, or keep it?
Guys, what are some good rims for the galaxy s II? I've been using miui, should I change, or keep it?
You mean ROMs? You'll never beat the performance or battery life of a stock Samsung rom with MIUI because it loses hardware acceleration and has to run on its own not so optimised kernel.
Was going to flash stock Bell to XXKI3, but heard bad things about battery life and network speeds?
Only reason I switched was because of the amazing notifications bar and the themes.
So I should revert back? Only reason I switched was because of the amazing notifications bar and the themes.
Just get a de-odexed and zip-aligned ROM with bloat removed and some perf tweaks.
Just get a de-odexed and zip-aligned ROM with bloat removed and some perf tweaks.
There's so many roms with that kind of specs. I don't know which to choose.
There's so many roms with that kind of specs. I don't know which to choose.
Just pick whichever has the longest thread, usually that's a good sign of a lot of users. [editline]30th September 2011[/editline] From there you'll start to pick out little things that bother you about each ROM and you'll start hopping until you find the ROM that you like best.
Sense ROMs exist for the original Galaxy S, and the AT&T GS2 will probably get fixed soon by XDA or by an OTA update.
But it wouldn't work for GSII right?
But it wouldn't work for GSII right?
Wouldn't be a stretch to see a port though, imo. Whatever the case, don't depend on it. Sense is ridiculously integrated into Android and it's like trying to remove rust from steel. Even if you get it off, it's still not the same as it was before.
If you wanted Sense then why the heck did you buy a Galaxy S II?
Exynos extreme is an awesome ROM. Also @galaxy s owners. Do you need to restock (flash stock gingerbread Rom) when coming from a froyo rom and going to CM7?
