Or keep iPhone and use it for music.
You can get a 64GB microSDXC card (and possibly also 128GB ones) that works with the SGII (and most other Android phones), thus rendering the iPhone pretty much redundant.
And if battery life is a concern, well if I'm not mistaken Samsung has released a official extended battery for it.
And why lug around with two devices, when you can have only one instead?
Yeah, I'd rather sell the iPhone for $150+ and almost completely pay off my Galaxy than just have a really expensive music player sitting around

Samsung's extended battery wont work on the SGH-i777. It's thicker than the i9100.

Goddammit, all those US carrier specific variations keeps confusing me :argh:
So, I'm thinking of buying a smartphone while I live here in America. Which one should I get? Needs to be unlocked so I can use it in Europe.
Thinking of the Samsung Galaxy S2, but if you guys have a better suggestion I would be thankful.
Well if you use AT&T in the US they are compatible with the SGS II International

Get the Galaxy S II i9100. It'll work on AT&T and on European networks. I think you can order unlocked versions.

You can I've checked. I'm just a little paranoid about buying a phone for almost 600 dollars then going home to realize I can't use it in Denmark. That would suck quite a bit.
But thanks for your help. I think I will try it. It will be my first smartphone!
The new exynos chip can support up to 16MP. I really doubt the SGS III with have a 16MP sensor.
I don't even see the point because the average consumer is viewing their pictures on a monitor that's 1920x1080 or less. So what's the benefit of having so many megapixels?
Because taking a huge image with TONS of points where the sensor got color info and then downscaling it is a MUCH better picture than taking it at the goal resolution?
[editline]2nd October 2011[/editline]
...I don't get your logic. No you can't have the best hardware and have HTC sense, this is a fact. But if you valued having Sense so high then you should have just bought a phone with worse hardware and then you would have Sense.
Also they aren't "shit". They're just not top tier. I actually like the EVO 3D, it performs well and has good features, but the screen is really bad and it won't fit all my movies on it.
[editline]1st October 2011[/editline]
Actually to explain a bit better. The screen on the EVO 3D is ok. It's the 3D mode that makes the screen have that awful screen door effect and that's what makes it look really bad. The problem is you're paying a premium to have those 3D features that really suck in the first place.
You hate on HTC constantly, yet they build very solid phones with very decent hardware. Not to mention that Sense is the only 3rd party skin that looks BETTER than AOSP.
The HTC Evo for instance I am still using and it plays shit perfectly. I emulate PSX games, and if I don't turn on frame limiting they get like 100fps. If you think that's shitty hardware, you're an idiot.
Not compatible with SGS II what.
First comment: Galaxy Tab 10.1 + Galaxy S2 = Perfect
Because taking a huge image with TONS of points where the sensor got color info and then downscaling it is a MUCH better picture than taking it at the goal resolution?
The problem is sensor size, the higher the res, the noisier everything gets. There's a limit to how small each individual light sensor can be.

You built your user interface argument on something that's purely subjective(this means that your argument becomes invalidated). The fact of the matter is that Qualcomm Scorpion cores are more similar to a Cortex A8 core than Cortex A9 ones. And their GPUs are less powerful than the MALI in the Exynos or the PowerVR chips on the OMAP4 series. Clearly you aren't very knowledgeable about mobile SoCs.
Also I've already shown that I don't hate on HTC constantly. I'm actually waiting for Krait based HTC devices similar to their recently released Amaze 4G before deciding on what my next phone will be. How about a decent argument instead of making one that I've shown is wrong several times?
After spending about 2 hours with my Galaxy SII
This is fucking amazing. Everything just works. You press the search button and it opens search. It does exactly what I want it to. Using somebody's Iphone will be a challenge after getting used to Android.
i want a droid bionic
So just one more question about this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875176292
Under details it says that it only supports 3G from AT&T and that the carriers are limited to AT&T, Rogers, and Fido.
So does that mean I can't use another carrier with this phone? And that I can only use 3G if i somehow manage to get AT&T in Denmark? Or am I just being completly stupid?

This is fixed when you downscale the image, all that noise doesn't matter when you're sampling like 64 pixels for 1 pixel. It averages out.

First off, I've never met a single person in real life who has had a problem with sense, and usually people LOVE sense. Don't get this OMGSUBJECTIVE bullshit.
Also your whole argument is flawed because something not being cutting edge does not equate to it being old. HTC fields current hardware that's in the 'above average' range. It's not terrible like you make it out to be. Current HTC phones can emulate N64 and PSX at full speed, that's an accomplishment that some NETBOOKS can not pull off. For what most non-neckbeards are doing HTC phones are ABOVE satisfactory.
They scroll smoothly.
They play most games completely fine, including emulated games.
They watch movies with no stutter etc.
Their GPU can't compete with a tegra 2 or one of the chips Samsung fields, but it doesn't really matter since most people are not playing console quality games that cost like 10$ on their phone anyway.
Fuck it, I'm just gonna flash a new ROM. I've fucked up a2sd permissions or something and a2sd apps are incompatible.

It is subjective. You said Sense is the only UI better than AOSP. I know for a fact that some people like the Sony UI better than AOSP. So it is invalid because Sense being the best is subjective. Nice try but you made a terrible argument there and you got called out on it.
The scorpion chips are old. They're certainly not the worst, but when you're paying $600 for a phone it should be cutting edge. And it isn't just the processor in the phone. It's the cheap Twisted Nematic screens they use as well.
As for graphics. Playing N64 at full speed is no great accomplishment when the Adreno chip renders textures in 16bit color and has massive texture compression.
Also. "They scroll smoothly". Is this a joke? Have you ever even opened the app launcher on a Sense based phone? The animation runs at like 25fps, it's unbearable. And with the Sensation if you have more than five widgets you get stutters while switching between homescreens.
And then you claim that the GPU is inferior because it won't affect most people. So what you're saying is a feature doesn't count if most people won't use it. I guess we don't need bluetooth or DLNA sharing because most people won't use them.

Depends on how much you like your sound quality
i want a droid bionic
Uh, what?
Well I just ordered a Samsung Infuse. I can't wait for it to get here :D
It'll be so nice to get rid of Windows Phone 7
Depends on how much you like your sound quality
The difference between them are negligible.
Now if you take a media player meant for audiophiles (no, not anything from Apple) and a smartphone, THEN there'll be a noticeable difference.
UNLESS you're using shitty earbuds or headphones.
Depends on how much you like your sound quality
I still use my original SGS for music, I use the SGSII for pretty much everything else.
I still use my original SGS for music, I use the SGSII for pretty much everything else.
Do you carry both devices around with you or just at home?

I suppose, but another issue is light sensitivity. I personally think that unless you have a DSLR size sensor, 16 MP is kind of a bad idea.

If it costs a ton of money, no it is unlocked. What that means is that within North America, the only carriers that have radio signals physically compatible with the phone are AT&T, Rogers, and Fido. If you can find carriers that support the phone's radio bands in Europe, it will work. The version with a physical home button is international and should be sim-unlocked. I would be surprised if it doesn't work with at least one GSM carrier in your country, because this is international version of GSII.
Two questions: Are there additional charges for tethering on AT&T for Android Phones? I'm not warned of extra charges anywhere in the settings area so I'm confused (There is a tethering plan that you would have to buy for iPhone). Also, best free N64 emulator (is there a free one)?

Barnacle wifi tether solves all problems if you have a high data limit and no tether data (weird ways, it's just one thing in the UK).

Generally tethering isn't allowed on data plans, but it can be bypassed by rooting and installing a tethering app.

Both. I listen to a lot of music so I always have my SGS. Movies, games, browsing etc is done on the SGSII.
It's been noted in XXKI3 that sound quality has been improved on the SGSII.
