MIUI ROMs is pretty nice, especially if you like iOS. CyanogenMod 7 is great, has a lot of customization and is based on clean (AOSP) Android. Sense ROMs are pretty much hit and miss, on my original Desire I used Leedroid HD, it worked great. Don't know if it's available on the Desire S. [editline]9th October 2011[/editline] There's also an official Sense 3.0 ROM for the Desire S.
I've been using MIUI for my Infuse, and it's great.
I know there isnt a stable release for CyanogenMod 7 on the Desire S yet. I just want a rom which isnt bloated.
DeSense scripts for Sense ROMs. Or CM7 nightlies.
Anyone with a Blade should flash this unofficial nightly now.
As its Sunday and its raining and I've finally gotten rid of the performance killing sense analogue glass clock and have been playing with my homescreens, I thought I'd try out some patches. So we've got nightly 220 plus..... LED notifications and SmartassV2 governor (patch4) Blade settings app now moved into settings app 16bpp rendering defaults to on (JimJam707's Note: Quick Scrolling!) softbuttons (JimJam707's Note: Optional) And also, now these are really experimental, they're on their 7th/10th incarnations now, so if they're flakey don't moan MIUI-like battery bar patch1 and patch2 I kind of like it as it uses useless space and doesn't break softbuttons/notifications. enable/configure it via settings->cyanogenmod settings->interface->status bar tweaks
http://android.modaco.com/topic/335328-cyanogenmod-7-android-237-is-now-gen-2-only/page__st__9340
Sorry I didnt explain it well, I have the original HTC Desire, but I have a newer version of it without the AMOLED Screen, and this version cannot be rooted. I will be happy with any phone with higher specs than the normal Desire, The maximum I will spend is £250 but I cant find a phone I like for that price yet. When will the new icecream sandwich phones be out? If its pretty soon then I can wait.
I have the SLCD Nexus One and it's exactly the same thing except for the display, I don't see why the Desire would be any different
DeSense scripts for Sense ROMs. Or CM7 nightlies.
Will the nightlies be ok for everyday use? I don't want to have an unstable phone with broken features. Seems like I have a big choice http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1033 [editline]10th October 2011[/editline] I don't fancy Miui

If you can find a Release Candidate, go with that.
Is there a "everything i need to know in a nutshell" type of thing for android?
Is there a "everything i need to know in a nutshell" type of thing for android?
Terminology? Or just tips and tricks in general?
Is there a "everything i need to know in a nutshell" type of thing for android?
De-odex: Basically this permits themes. Zip-align: Basically this improves RAM usage. Dalvik: Basically this is what applications run on. Voodoo Lagfix: Basically for Galaxy S phones, a conversion from Samsung's laggy RFS to ext4.
Terminology? Or just tips and tricks in general?
Both, mainly tips and tricks.
Both, mainly tips and tricks.
Install titanium backup It's a lifesaver
Tips and tricks: Use CDMA Auto (PRL) if on CDMA carriers, GSM Auto (PRL) if you're on a GSM phone. This helps save battery in areas of low reception, and reduces battery usage when on the move in cars/trains. If on the Galaxy S, switch your phone to the lower frequency bands of your network by entering *#0011*, then menu and press back, don't use the hardware keys for this. Set WiFi sleep policy to never to save on battery usage. JuiceDefender is a good way to reduce battery usage, as it installing a lower auto-brightness script. SetCPU if you have root will let you overclock or underclock. If you have a Sense ROM, make sure you have a smoothness patch that will keep homescreen scrolling absolutely fluid. CRT Animations sometimes can cause issues, avoid installing them if your ROM doesn't come with them. Make sure you Google proper APN settings for increased performance of your mobile data. Finally, don't use task killers. Android will automatically kill processes as needed and you really don't need to worry about it. You'll spend more power on having the screen on that much longer, and the CPU spent reviving the processes is not worth it. Get a C2DM IM client like Trillian or eBuddy if you use AIM/Gtalk. Get Fasterfix or flash custom GPS configuration files for faster lock times, and use GPS Test to update A-GPS data when it feels like it's taking more than a few seconds for it to be locking up in Google Navigation. If you're finding your accuracy is shit for GPS, take off the case if you have one as cases heavily attenuate the signal. Use a Bluetooth GPS reciever if you don't have the ability to hold it up to a windshield/ actual clear view of the sky. To calibrate a battery, the procedure is to charge until the indicated voltage by the phone is 4199 mV or more, then clear battery stats with the phone still charging and reboot, then disconnect the charger once it reboots. If on Gingerbread, get BetterBatteryStats or Battery history for Gingerbread to diagnose partial wakelocks, and use CurrentWidget to monitor battery drain. Network Signal Info can be used to locate the approximate location of a cell tower that you're connected to.
What's the real difference from 4g and 3g? At&t has the gsII but its 3g compared to alot of the other android devices which are 4g. Should I just go with the gsII or wait till a better 4g comes out?
The G msans generation of the mobile internet. I think 4G is technically not even out yet. I think we're at 3.9 G. Anyways, when 3G came out, 2G was actually faster for a while. There's a useful video explaining the generations on hak5 or hacktips, forgot whigh one.

Too bad the requirement for true "4G" is 1 Gbit throughput at max speed and standing still, which is going to require a ridiculous amount of bullshit to work right. [editline]10th October 2011[/editline]
Install titanium backup It's a lifesaver
If you need a reason to root, it is this. Untethered backups are a godsend on the highest order.
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyanogenmod-7-1-released CM 7.1 official out
Will be excited to load that beezy on my Nook Color when it arrives on Thursday. Also, just waiting for Motorola to stop being Nazi's and unlock the Bionic's bootloader so we can get CM7 port.
Spent 5 minutes trying to get the battery out my Desire S
for some reason my nexus s seems to not be rooted anymore, and I think its because it just recently got a software upgrade. Would that be the reason or...?
Installed 7.1.0 'stable' and it just caused my phone to keep freezing and crashing. Rolled back to 7.0.3 and everything works perfectly again.
for some reason my nexus s seems to not be rooted anymore, and I think its because it just recently got a software upgrade. Would that be the reason or...?
A software update could remove root access, however as it is a Nexus device it's easily restored.
my DHD lasted like 10 days once, when it fell behind the desk and I couldn't find it.
Why didn't you just call it?
I've never installed a custom ROM or anythign and on Google + someone told me CM7 was out for my Desire HD. How do I install it? I downloaded the stable release and now have no idea what the hell to do.
Here you go.
Wrong the correct answer should be "Go to XDA-Developers" :v:
Well I haven't rooted it yet and so I went to XDA. I found this for my phone and the wiki has no text in it.. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=AT&T_Inspire_4G:_Rooting My phone is the AT&T Inspire 4G running on 2.3 [editline]10th October 2011[/editline] Well I think the CM7 site is down or something.
