So, My Galaxy S2 which I broke by dropping in the bath is now fixed...
...after I drenched it in another liquid.
Ironic it may seem, but it worked and it's almost as good as new. All I had to do in the end was disassemble it completely then soak all the connectors and the mainboard in IPA. It didn't work at first but after the IPA dried out it worked perfectly again. A very cheap and easy fix to what would have otherwise been a £500 doorstop.
The only issue with it now is the IPA behind the camera lens, I don't think I'm going to be able to fix that, but it's only minor and the camera is still good quality.
You drenched your phone in India Pale Ale?
That honestly doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

I realise you're joking but for people who don't know what IPA is...

Hey, first time posting here
Just wanted to know if there is anything I should know as I would like to get the HTC wildfire S
I'm going from a nokia e63 to this phone maybe in a month and I'm very used to the nokia's amazing battery life (I charge it every 5 days or so) so does anybody know what I can expect from a wildfire?
Anything would be useful, such as features it has/doesn't have or little niggles with it, infact any other phones that are in the same price range (this is important) that are better would be nice to know.

Managing radios give shitloads of energy savings.
I suggest downloading JuiceDefender as soon as you get the phone if you end up buying it.
I've been using it now for a bit and it's been great. I used to manually turn off data etc. but this just does it automatically.
And it re-enables data for a bit to sync and then turns it right back off automatically.

TBH the ZTE Blade is a better device for your money.

Make up your fucking minds Bell. Is it 14th or 21st?
Been using my Droid 3 for a day now and I fucking love it. The keyboard is amazing, the build quality overall has been improved quite a bit, the camera is absolutely amazing to say the very least and overall it's just a huge step up in hardware compared to the Droid 2. I could care less about the lack of 4G because by the year's end, I'll have a 4G tablet anyways.

Does it have a SIM slot? It supports WCDMA 850 and 1900.

Confirmed 21st. It sucks because I planned to grab it and ride to see the new harry potter movie.

Oh, I had no idea what you were talking about. No one calls it IPA, well except for you I guess. But yeah, I guess you are lucky.
You probably used the isopropyl alcohol in your cabinet? Which is usually only 70%, so you were a bit lucky with that. That 70% usually means its 30% water... or 29% water and 1% some random shit. So just be careful next time. Also be careful with using it on your components like that because it can cause issues with the plastic and other parts on the chip.
You may run into problems in the next few weeks or months, but hopefully you won't.

Gah, now I need to snag one. Why do I have to be poor and have a year left on contract? :(

Help, my phone is charging itself in my pocket!
So apparently the US is never getting the Samsung Galaxy SII... and when they do it is going to be the Tegra 2.
What is the next best phone? I want a top of the line android when I upgrade at the beginning of August. Are there any phones I should wait for?
I looked at the HTC Inspire and that looks like the next best choice after the GSII? However, I don't know what else is expected to come out in the next couple of months. So what are your opinions?

This is a pretty normal thing to do. Just make sure you remove everything that's plastic before you do it or you'll end up with some nice marks on it.
The main problem with getting stuff on something electric that isn't mains voltage is that it will eventually corrode the traces on the board. The voltages in most devices (Even computers as long as you don't get anything in the PSU itself) are too low to be affected by most liquids. I left a cup of coffee on my desk, came back after work and found one of my cats had knocked it onto my computer. Motherboard was covered (And it was still on and working). Unplugged it and cleaned it and it worked perfectly.
Maybe a PS1 emulator. If you want games buy a Galaxy S II. Or a tegra 2 device.
Nothing bad factually about SGSII, I just cannot stand phones with just a touch screen, I prefer to have game controls or a physical keyboard on my device.
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
And I don't like having to carry around separate controllers either :v:

It shouldn't cause any problems with the board or ICs as long as he didn't literally soak the board in it. It is better that it is not as strong because you will really damage plastics if you use a high concentration. When you're using it for cleaning you usually dilute it with water. As long as he let everything evaporate properly it will be fine.
Also, everyone calls it IPA? At least over here in the UK.

Common folk call it IPA in the UK I guess.
And I disagree with everything you said.
If you're on Android 2.2 or above get ready for an update to your Android Market experience. Google has just informed us that a new version of the app is incoming, a version that will add tabs for easy access to Google Books and Movies. Starting with the more visual purchases, at $1.99 you'll be able to start watching movies almost instantly, and apparently see whether Chevy Chase will ever take his family on a successful vacation. But, if offline access is key, you'll also be able to download the misadventures of the Griswold family for later viewing. Books is now integrated too, saving you the hassle of having to launch the books app, which required you to then open the browser to actually buy any digital tomes. Overall the new design looks cleaner, finger-friendlier, and the addition of Editor's Choice apps should make it easier than ever to get to the good stuff. The update will be rolling out gradually over the next several weeks and, once you've been admitted to the club, you'll be able to download the Videos app as well. Check out the video preview after the break.
The new version of the Android Market looks nice, hopefully it will launch soon.

How is the inspire the next best after the SGS II? It's just the desire HD with a different radio. Get the Infuse 4G or the atrix. Either one is a nice phone.

The isopropyl I used is pure.
Get an SGSII for emulation, a PS3 controller and play PSX games with the PS3 controller.
The Xperia can't come close to a real controller.

But you can't use a PS3 controller. Someone should compile joydev.ko for the SGSII so we can use normal USB gamepads using USB OTG.
It's being worked on right now. Honeycomb tablets with proper USB host can already do it but for OTG phones someone is working on a driver.

Oh great, a bigger app for my shitty HTC Magic to attempt to cope with.

I think Ice Cream Sandwich is going to be heading this way, maybe it's time to start saving for a new phone.

Aside from the Joysticks it IS the PS3 controller, more or less.

Because I didn't look too hard, like I said I don't know what phones are available and what not.
I've looked at the Infuse before, and it would be nice if it wasn't so huge.
http://mycolorscreen.com/2011/05/26/for-science-2/
That actually looks very nice, I might set this up, but I'm slightly attatched to Launcher7.
I don't get why you would carry around a separate controller for a phone, which is meant to be PORTABLE.
I don't care if the Xperia controls not as good as a real PS3 controller, I think I'll get it.

Then why did you even bother asking. We gave tons of advice and you're just like "W/E I was never going to listen to you anyway. I'm going to buy it"
Aside from the Joysticks it IS the PS3 controller, more or less.
It's awkward to use and the touch pads are not great.
