What you're convinced of is that HSPA+ is somehow a far cry from HSPA, or what most consider to be 3G in these parts. There's a very good reason why it's called Evolved HSPA. Your friend at work has T-Mobile, a network that I can say with 100 percent assurance does not have LTE in any shape or form, only DC-HSPA+. HSPA and HSPA+ interchange automatically and are integrated onto the same baseband. You'd have to wipe the cache and Dalvik cache too (advanced options IIRC), but your files (music and stuff like that) would stay, that's what happened in my case.

All system files, cache, and dalvik cache need to be wiped and formatted to ext4 or ext3 before installation.

i did do that, but it didnt work except for formatting to ext4 or ext3 but i guess cwm does that?
