So you actually sold that iPhone 4 for a Nexus Prime? Good choice
Still got the 4 ;)
Is there a (preferably stable) ICS release for the Captivate (I897)?
But that still leaves the problem of not supporting SD card slots and the Nexus S has OTA updates so it can't update without loosing data either.
SD Card slots are still UMS I think, Internal NAND will use MTP though.

I tried it and the package to flash the ICS bootloaders bricked my phone. Just wait until you need a new phone. It's not worth trying to get ICS onto it.
Man, is everything really this hard with sammy phones?
On my HTC I would just flash a zip with clockwork recovery.
And installing clockwork recovery is easy too...

It's because you (apparently) need new bootloaders to go from 2.2/3 to 2.4.
Otherwise you just flash from zip.
I'm going to get a smartphone for Christmas, and I wanted to know what's better between the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note.
I know there are both pretty similiar, though the Galaxy Note has the S-Pen and a bigger screen (1280x800 on a 5'3 isn't too much I hope?), but any suggestions?
You should just go to a shop and check them both out and see if you're fine with the giant screen. I'd suggest waiting for Galaxy Nexus though.
So I just got an Android (Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket). And I'm new, so I need app recommendations:
- One for a sort of "emergency ring" - call from some other phone, punch a 4 digit number in while it's ringing and the phone will ignore sound settings and ring at full blast. This would mostly be used for finding my phone if I lose it like a dumbass but it would also be good for anti-theft (in my case) and someone actually trying to call me in an emergency.
- One to allow me to set whatever sound file I have as a ringtone or "new text message" sound or whatever.
- The usual "lol recommend me some apps" list.

oh and also
My phone shipped with contacts in it. Since it's things like "check the balance" etc I kept them but put them in a hidden group. How do I display that group without going into the settings every time?

Prey Antitheft.
I can recommend SeekDroid for that.
It allows to play loud sounds, display messages, locate the phone on a map, lock the phone, or even wipe it.

For the second, I think you can do it from the music player.

Third,
Launcher Pro, Smart Keyboard, Dolphin Browser, Amazon Appstore, Barcode Scanner, ReadItLater3G Watchdog, Widget Locker, UberMusic, QuickPic.

If you're okay with the bigger screen, go for the Galaxy Note. Otherwise the SGS2.

Link?
Hmm..
Galaxy S2, or Nexus Prime?
Currently leaning towards the Nexus Prime. I might miss iMessage on iOS, but it should be worth it.. right?
Best commercial ever

I wish Samsung would do international releases like Apple :(
I have to wait till Dec 8th for the Nexus Prime
Edit:
Nope, my fucking shitty carrier isn't getting it until January 2012.

The GS2 is better at everything than the Nexus except it's screen. If you put a lot more emphasis into the screen and the Nexus branding, then go for that, but the GS2 is otherwise decidedly better in it's SoC.
Whatsapp/Viber/Google Voice will do everything that iMessage does and then some.
Honestly, it feels like there won't be a significant upgrade until 720p, Cortex A15/Snapdragon S4, and LTE are all in a single phone. Right now there really isn't a significant reason to change over unless you are just dying to do so.
Link?
Just search nethack in market
The one with sword and shields icon

"I could never get a Samsung. I'm creative"
Ahahahahahaahhaa
That is amazing
God, playing nethack again brought back memories.
So, anybody know of any games like Hacker Evolution or Uplink for android?
Is there a way to disable Swype for specific apps? I personally love using it, but Android Terminal Emulator can only register capital I instead of lowercase i when I use it.
