If it's not going to be an official release, the community will most definitely get one working.
I even think the SGS already has a pretty-much-working ICS ROM already, unlike SGS2 :(

Thanks, but I don't think I can use it on my university's network. I have to log into a PPTP VPN in order to access anything (even the compsci SSH servers on the same network)

if you'd flash a custom kernel ([url=http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182498]SpeedMod[/url] is a good example which doesn't require any tweaking after you flash it), your battery life would also improve. I do charge my phone every night but with SpeedMod, I have a lot more battery at the end of the day then I did on stock kernel.
about the phone logging: I don't see any IQRD app in my SGS2, does that mean we're safe?

Oh, and I'll just say right now that you should probably never underclock your phone. You might want to clock up your phone to 1.2 GHz, in fact.
If you're wondering why I say this, look up HUGS. You will save more power for a given task if the CPU rapidly ramps up to max speed to finish it faster than if it spends more time at a lower clock with less power consumption.
Intel already did extensive studies on this before, and we don't see companion cores in their laptop CPUs. Instead we see ULV chips and Turbo Core tech.

For the curious, storing your battery at 100% charge at 25C will make the capacity irrecoverably drop 20% in a year. It's not 20% of the original, but 20% of what is left. So if you're going to store batteries for a month or more, use it to about 40% before putting it in a dark, dry, cool storage space.
Partial discharges of about 50% will increase the useful lifetime of a battery by about 250 charges, or 25%.

Earlier versions of firmware have a suspend and events/0 loop issue that will destroy battery life.

Probably not all that true, unless you have an app acting up in the background.
I would be less doubtful if the phone automatically kicked down to EDGE when there is enough of a time without significant network usage. That would be a viable way to increase battery life.

The Droid RAZR and the Droid 3 should be OK to clock up to 1.2 GHz. The Galaxy Nexus should work out fine when clocked up to 1.5 GHz.

Stock: Oversaturated, with Voodoo Screen it will be the best thing you'll ever see.
Rooting: Download kernel, flash using Odin. You are rooted.

The screens pretty big and crisp.
On the Exynos 5250: Holy shit. This is going to be a big deal for Qualcomm. 2 GHz Cortex A15 could probably beat a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4. If Samsung amps up the GPU to iPad 2 speeds or faster, this could be the S3 vs Exynos 4210 all over again.
If Exynos 5250 integrates LTE and all the other data standards into 1 SoC, and they get the release dates right, this could rain on Qualcomm's parade. Badly.
