I dropped my old contract for my LG Dare and signed for a Galaxy S (the first one) for zero dollars. This phone is fucking amazing, beats out my old one in every way. Hmm. Should I try and purchase that touchpad? 100 seems pretty awesome. I was considering a kindle fire to mess around with.

yep!!
yep!!
Holy crap really want to buy it! I guess I can get it sometime on Christmas or get a DSLR camera instead...
Does anyone know the full specs that they are shipping out for the firesale? other than a base of 16gb?
Any way to remove the AT&T logo and 3G startup animations on the Captivate (Galaxy S)?
I can't wait to upgrade my phone. I can't play Fruit Ninja proper, because eventually my phone becomes so overwhelmed, it won't register the fact I'm touching the screen. Any good Verizon Android's out (or coming out) in the next few months?

I've heard they're already in stores.

And preferences? Screen size? Battery life? Weight?

My current screen is 3.2", so I could always go larger and I have fairly large pockets. I just need a battery that can last me throughout the day. I'm pretty good about charging overnight. And I have a battery pack on mine, so I'm not at all concerned about weight. All the newer Androids feel like a piece of paper to me.
Yeah but Verizon is the one that locks them (usually)
I haven't heard much on Verizon locking them. Just Motorola.
Motorola and HTC both lock the shit out of bootloaders. Pisses me off so much.
I guess the Galaxy Nexus does have a locked bootloader. But this was sort of an amusing read. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/unlock-galaxy-nexus-bootloader-how-to/ Just like back in the old days when rooting my Eris took two files and 3 adb commands.
Any way to remove the AT&T logo and 3G startup animations on the Captivate (Galaxy S)?
Only the 3G Startup animation. The AT&T logo is tied to your bootloader, and fucking with bootloaders often enough will eventually make it statistically likely that you will hardbrick your fucking phone.

I bought a 7 inch Galaxy tab (one of the older p1000s, I think) from a guy a couple hours away for $40. He bought a new touchscreen for it, and in the process of replacing it he apparently tore the ribbon cable that runs to the motherboard. Looks like it tore where the ribbon plugs into the back of the LCD screen. I spent 10 bucks to order a ribbon from China, but under magnification it looks like the connector on the back of the screen might have some bent pins from this idiot trying to force the ribbon out. I might be able to straighten them out, but I might also be seeing parts of the old ribbon still stuck in the connector, I can't really tell since I wasn't the one to take the damn thing apart. I assume it's basically impossible to replace the jack on the screen if that's the problem. Can anybody point me to some really high-res pics of a Galaxy tab teardown so I can see how things are supposed to look? I guess the worst thing that could happen is I put the thing on Ebay and get my $40 back for the parts, I don't know if this thing is really worth $75 for a new LCD screen. I read today that HP was going to firesale their refurb Touchpads on eBay in a few days, that seems like a better buy than sinking a bunch of parts into this thing. Thoughts? Is a p1000 tab a better investment for $100 than a Touchpad?
