Yeah seriously you could cook stuff on the back of this thing sometimes
I think tomorrow at work I'm gonna grab one of the infrared thermometers we sell and see just how hot it gets on the outside. It's only really gotten hot to the point where I was worried when playing dungeon defenders, while running n64oid(Which plays beautifully smooth) it is fine.
Also I don't see a reason to overclock this. When I had my Desire HD it was worth it, because there was a noticeable performance increase, but I haven't found a single thing my GS2 couldn't run perfectly.
The most intensive programs are 3D apps for the tegra 2, so you won't be finding anything your SGS II can't run perfectly.
Also. http://www.oled-display.net/samsung-want-to-produce-7-inch-amoleds-with-improved-resolution-in-september-2011
Seven inch SAMOLED+ tablet. Would be great for watching movies on the go.
[editline]1st August 2011[/editline]
Also for those worried about SGS II heat.

The EMI shield is huge for a phone. And it acts as a heatsink for the processor.
The only time I've even given the "hotness" of the SGS II a thought, was when I had one of the early CM7 nightlies on it. Damn thing was almost 50 degrees celsius.
I hate when versions get into numbers 4 and above (sup apple). It just seems like, YO BROW, instead of making 4 shitty versions how about you spend time to make 1 good one.

Well 4.0 ICS is just 3.0 honeycomb unified for both tablets and phones.
I don't suppose anyone knows a good (offline) Texas Hold'em game?
I find myself to be very rusty so I'd rather give it a few hundred rounds against a computer opponent, while on the go.
I happen to have an hour-long train ride this week.
Could someone recommend me a good Gmail/e-mail widget and some fun tower defense game?

Well apple is the only company that releases minimal upgrades between versions.
But if you look at Galaxy S and Galaxy SII they upgraded basically everything on the phone...
If you are going to make a series of devices I don't mind if you get up to 4 or 5 or 100. As long as each version is built with the newest technology when it is made and there is a good reason for updating it.
Single core to dual core processors? Great reason to upgrade.
Phone camera without a flash to Phone camera with an LED flash? Terrible reason to create another version.
Taking 4 versions to add something (folders) that should have been in no later than 2 is ridiculous.
Increasing a version number because you changed the gloss angle is just dumb..
Dammit. Just put CM7 on my phone, thought Titanium Backup would save my contacts, guess it didn't.
Google's backup doesn't appear to have worked for anyone either.
And my Swype beta automatically crashes.
Pretty awesome CM7 experience so far, aside from the part where I'm retarded.
Anyone want a Google Music invite? Only 2 to give away and you've gotta be in the US because Google is mean like that.
I got mine working in Canada by applying through a proxy. Works nicely on my Nexus S and Xoom.
If anybody wants a good and cheap case for the SGSII, I've got this one and it's really great for the price :

It's only 2.82 USD.
Rate agree if you think I should use my HTC Desire as a primary phone, or disagree if I should use my HD2 (running android, of course). [sp]i can't afford a sgs2[/sp]
They have pretty much identical specs, but the HD2 has a rad 4.3 inch screen, and the Desire has a rad trackball.
Do you guys recommend buying spare batteries on eBay if they're Samsung batteries?
What about something like this?

I ordered the exact same style :v:
I want that Android logo.
My only problem is the wake up delay, about 2.5-3 seconds after hitting the button to wake it up, that can be after setting it down for 5 seconds or for 5 hours.
Getting it too (stock samsung ROM - KE7/KF3). Some people say it's because of the CPU being underclocked to save battery, but some people just get no delay at all ⌐_⌐
what is this sorcery.
Do I continue trying to fix this, or let it rot? (Not mine, it's Overv's, but then Lexi helped work on it or something, and it was on GCode for a while).

Please continue.
hell I can browse facepunch on Opera Mobile, but having a dedicated facepunch app would be SO MUCH COOLER!
Well, just spent 5 minutes trying to put on the gel case only to realise that I still had the hard cover on.
Also I suck badly at putting screen protectors on. Air bubbles everywhere.
Also I suck badly at putting screen protectors on. Air bubbles everywhere.
I only got a little piece of hair under it instead :(
i got dust under mine :(

I destroyed the free screen protector that came with my Case Mate Safe Skin case. And every screen protector on all of my previous phones. I'm so bad at this :(
I'll just try to trust Gorilla glass on my S2 :v:
I don't like the feel of screen protectors.
Screen protectors that apply themselves on the screen without forming air bubbles would be a blessing.

Need a spray/brush on one.
Nice argument. I see no difference so it isn't a valid point. Anybody here coming to a SGS II will tell you how much better the screen looks compared to LCDs from other manufacturers.
AMOLED+ isn't good enough, SAMOLED+ is getting there. Until it's an equal to IPS I see no reason to choose it. Colors are just oversaturated, and while you may think that's a good thing, I believe in color fidelity. S-LCD falls short and SAMOLED+ goes too far. Really, the S-IPS on the iPhone 4 wins here, nothing you can do. The viewing angles may be better on SAMOLED+, but when it's unlikely that you'll be canting the phone much more than 100 degrees from the vertical, I doubt that this is a big deal.
That ram advantage is rendered invalid due to Sense using such a large amount of ram to run. For example. The Sensation has around 332mb of usable ram and it has 786mb of ram total. In contrast the Galaxy S running touchwiz typically has 329mb of usable ram despite only having 512mb total.
Meanwhile my Inspire consistently has around 150mb of free ram while my brother's Captivate has about 70 to work with. Before you say anything about how the stock ROM sucks up RAM, my brother runs the custom Darky ROM with Launcher Pro.
Samsung wont sell HTC SAMOLED panels. Supplies are limited and it's a selling point for Samsung made devices. Even if they did they won't be qHD. Samsung is moving to a laser based production method that will allow for resolutions upwards of 300ppi. Therefore we'll probably be seeing a 1280x720 SAMOLED+ panel in the future.
And really it'd be okay, because a good S-IPS panel would really have more accurate colors. Oversaturated colors are not a good thing. There's also reports of burn-in with SAMOLED+, and OLED tech means that the blue subpixels will burn out faster. Samsung can go ahead and continue to improve it's technology, S-IPS is still the king of display technology. HTC's screens admittedly aren't amazing, but they are definitely not subpar. Before SAMOLED+ came out I would have never taken a Samsung phone, but they need to still keep improving it.
The GS2 may be an amazing phone, but there's still niggling flaws here and there that every Android seems to have. No big deal, but in general Samsung phones have flaws that I don't really want to put up with. Things like the inability to link contacts so I don't have duplicate names littered EVERYWHERE in my contact book, working GPS out of the box, etc. You may not think of Sense as a good idea, or unibody design, or any other number of things that HTC does to make their phones "different". I think it is. I think it's convenient to have a phone that has a built in phone finder that I can use with no fuss and long setup. I think it's nice to have a phone that actually feels like it's worth 550 dollars. I think that it's nice to have a phone that doesn't have niggling hardware flaws like an overheating screen or nonfunctional GPS. Maybe you don't have a problem with that, but I'd rather go with tried and true hardware with distinctive industrial design wrapped up with software that helps make the phone better and require less setup.
Just going through forums the general consensus is "I don't trust Samsung because of spotty QC and software updates."
Anyway, at the end of the day some people will pick Samsung for having something they can tinker with, others will pick HTC or Motorola or any other number of Android phone makes, and some will go to Apple because that's what they want. Everyone has their own personal opinions.
GPS is fine and you can link/join contacts
Sorry LuaDuck, but im gonna delay my switch for 3 months. o2 gave me 1gb free internet for the next 3 months, and £10 credit each month on top of that.

Sony Ericsson has promised to improve their commitment to the Android platform. Devices like the Xperia Arc, Pro and Play are definitely much better than last years itinerary. Just how much is Sony Ericsson working on their Android smartphones, though? It seems they might be trying a bit too hard.
Rumors indicate Sony Ericsson is working on a 3D (glasses-free) device to compete with phones like the HTC EVO 3D and the LG Optimus 3D. Sony Ericsson’s secret smartphone is no pipsqueak, though. This guy is rumored to have a massive 4.7-inch display, blurring the line between a tablet and a smartphone. But size isn’t all that matters; the resolution on this 3D device should also be quite stunning: 1280×720p. There’s not much more you could ask in a 4.7-inch display.
Not much else is known about this supposed 3D smartphone yet, but the little things we do know are quite impressive. While many prefer those imposing larger screen devices, others may see them as “too bulky.” There must be a limit, though, and we believe a 4.7-inch screen would be reaching it.
It came to our attention that many of you thought the Samsung Hercules‘ 4.5-inch display was already too much. I personally love 4.0/4.3-inch devices. They’re large enough to use comfortably, but not too huge (in my opinion). But they can be hard to carry around in small pockets. Using a 4.5-inch device, like the Samsung Infuse 4G, is definitely much more uncomfortable for the small-handed. Personally, I can not imagine how comfortable it could be to use a 4.7-inch smartphone. But that’s just personal preference; many of my friends do tell me my 4.3-inch device is huge.
We’d like to see what the demand for a 4.7-inch 3D display would be, so please let us know what you think. Would you be interested in such a big display, or is it too much? Are you a fan of 3D smartphones? What is your favorite screen size for smartphones? Where is the perfect balance of portability and comfort? Which device are you currently rocking?
