Android Thread V4 - Got money? Samsung Galaxy S II. No money? ZTE Blade.
Shit, I still dunno if I should return my SGS2 because of the circle screen defect... I'm just scared I'll end up getting ones with the yellow tinting on the left side of the screen... apparently they all have some sort of tinting issue on the left side of the screen at varying degrees. Mine has a dark tint instead but it's barely noticeable. I'd rather have the circle + dark tint over the yellow tint tho....
Shit I dunno... to the SGS2ers, hows your screen? XDA has a 180+ page thread on the issue
My screeen is one of the better ones if you compare it to that thread. I do not have the circle and stuff. The phone itself is so goddamn amazing so I simply do not care about the yellow tint. It's not noticeable for me if I don't look for it closely. It seems to gotten better with KG3, the yellow aren't that strong so I can't really see it anymore in gray areas, gray pictures. I could see it post-KG3 but yea, if I don't focus really much on it I can't see it.
I made every gray area in my phone black including that notification menu.
Hunt3r.J2, I have been reading your argument about these screens for the last couple of pages and I just don't understand.
You make the argument that you are all about color accuracy and all this stuff, but it's a phone? If it looks alright then it is alright, but you aren't doing graphic design work on your phone... And if you are, I am sorry that you are a struggling artist.
But honestly, am I missing the point or am I okay thinking that complaining about how accurate colors are on a phone is ridiculous. I can understand if blues were showing up as red, that would be a pretty bad color accuracy mistake. But on a phone I don't really think having blue show up more blue is too much of an issue.
If you are doing extremely sensitive work that requires 100% color reproduction then I really hope you upgrade to a better device than a phone to do this important work.
the moral of the story is smartphones usually shouldn't be hot to the touch in most conditions assuming it's kept away from direct sunlight. Not to mention that heat will also reduce battery life.
No I'm quite certain the moral is that when you've lost an argument several times you should stop posting the same thing you posted before in hopes of it somehow becoming accurate.

Nearly half of all Android and BlackBerry users plan to switch to an iPhone, according to a small survey conducted by Piper Jaffray.
The results were based on a sample size of 216 mobile users surveyed in downtown Minneapolis, MN, but the results complemented a much larger ChangeWave survey published last week, and existing usage stats were comparable to ComScore's recent tally.
I can do that too. It's called polling people who walk of of starbucks carrying macbooks. I mean, 216 people isn't even enough to call it a fair sample study. You'd need to poll like 2000 users.

I am a blackberry user and I am switching to Android as soon as the Galaxy SII is released in the US...
I have several friends who went from Blackberry to Android... Actually, I have one friend, who is a bit of an idiot but he tries, he switched from Blackberry to Android, but Android to iPhone. But he was too stupid to use Blackberry or Android, which is why he didn't like them.
[editline]3rd August 2011[/editline]
88% of Blackberry users are going to switch to Android based on my sample size of 9 people.

The worst part is not the sample size, but that PC Magazine has the audacity to publish such factually incorrect data from an unreliable source.

Main issue is that to me it looks like I'm using a phone set in TF2 trailers.

I don't get what's not to get here. Heat is bad for your phone, and usually it shouldn't be hot to the touch under normal circumstances. If the GS2 regularly gets hot to the touch, that's bad, because that means that somehow the phone is using enough power to generate a lot of heat. Somehow saying that I've lost the self-evident fact that heat is bad is ridiculous. If the GS2 has good heatsinks, that's great. Doesn't matter in the debate because I'm talking about how much heat the damned thing generates in the first place, regardless of how well it dissipates it.
uh is there any reason to use a different browser than stock for android? literally I can't think of a single one
does a custom browser allow me to hover over links and see the full address w/o clicking it? or actually click on FP's ratings more accurately(like rating dumb and it always choosing reply/link post)

Samsung's custom browser is hardware accelerated by rendering the pages on the Mali-400.

If you've got a trackball/dpad Opera has a mouse pointer that you can use.

What if you use a mouse with a honeycomb tablet? Can you use it like a laptop?
I don't, I have a sensation. so yup.
What if you use a mouse with a honeycomb tablet? Can you use it like a laptop?
Not really. You can click near the part of the screen where the ratings are and they'll pop up like normal and then you can click on one.
[editline]2nd August 2011[/editline]
So it's basically like a higher-precision touchscreen.

Do us all a favour and get out of the Android thread. You don't contribute to discussions and have done nothing but make useless arguments from the moment you posted there. Nobody wants you here.

And do me a favor by stop being an asshole because we have a difference of opinion.

Please, just fucking stop. If you really want to bitch about products, especially one that you've never even used, make your own thread and spew your shit there and anybody who cares will join you.

So are you going to be getting the optimus 3D/Evo 3D when they come to rogers?
Need more boxes for my boxfort.

Damn, it's tempting. I have only just gotten my Nexus S though and, well, it does everything I throw at it very well. I'd upgrade in the event that Ice Cream Sandwich turns it into a slow piece of shit. In that case, I'd still probably go with a SGSII if it gets here.
I'm not too impressed with the 3D stuff to be honest.

Oh I forgot you had a Nexus S. Nevermind, stick with that. Rub ICS in the faces of non Nexus owners when it releases.

Exactly. There's a SE Xperia X10 in the house and it's still on 2.1. They'll be getting 2.3.3 when 4.0 comes out for my phone.
Feels good, mang.
How about you, which phone is your daily driver?

I run 2.3.5 because I run CM7. But Samsung offers 2.3.4, I just prefer stock android.

Mm, yes. Ever tried NSCollab?

I don't own a Nexus S. Running an i9000 here. If the Nexus S had been available when I bought my phone I would have gotten it, but the only versions available used 1700/2100, so they only worked on WIND mobile.
Anyone know any app that mimics the IOS5 notification bar? Or the widgets it had on the IOS 5 notification?,
Apple stole it from Android. If you want widgets, you should find something called "Bar Control" and "Weather Notification".

I heard that what they actually did was rip it out of an app dev for jailbroken iPhones who wanted something that resembled Android's notification system.
I guess in a way Apple did, but indirectly.
I have a plan:
Order new HTC Desire S now, remain on old iPhone contract.
Place SIM card from iPhone into unlocked HTC Desire S.
Sell iPhone to phone-recycling company, make £109.
When contract runs out, order new SIM card from GiffGaff.
Does that plan check out? Any problems that may occur?

iPhone uses a micro-sim. You're gonna need to make/buy a converter.

Or just trim down the sides.

Trim the sides of a Micro SIM to make in Normal sized?
