I think I bricked my phone. I wiped sd card, Dalvik-cache and battery stats. Now when I on, I only get the samsung galaxy S II I9I00 and the excalmation mark. Then, after that, nothing. But Odin mode still works. Did I do anything wrong?
All I get is a black screen after the alert sign. Doesn't goes to home or anything.
Don't say you weren't warned.

That's not a brick.
Just go into recovery (Home+Volume up+Power) and wipe everything, reflash CF-Root and then start again.
Edit:
Why the hell did you wipe the SD card and battery status?!
You only need to wipe, Data, Dalvik and cache
Where do you get the Stock Roms?
Is it possible to upgrade to a Rom that doesn't support your phone? Do you have to make sure to check compatibility between your phone and android versions?

Official Samsung Stock ROMs can be found here with instructions on how to flash them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
With compatibility issues as long as the ROM is for the Galaxy SGSII (i9100) it should work, if you flash a ROM that's meant for another phone it ain't pretty.

Didn't really know. Sorry for troubling you. Works now. But I backed up my Internal SD and external SD. Also backed up the titanium backup stuff.

You trying to flash MIUI?
Also you've probably messed up your battery status. When you've flashed your new ROM charge to 100%, enter recovery, remove charger, wipe battery.
Well, 3rd time lucky, got a screen protector on with no bubbles.
Also I thought I saw you in the Huddle Garry.
I bought an samsung galaxy s2, and have some questions
Congratulations, you're in possession of the fastest performing smartphone on the market today.
1. I don't get any push notifications on things like twitter, facebook, email. Do I need to enable them some how? They only update when I enter the app.
Go to settings of the entire phone, then Accounts and Sync to change that.
2. Can I somehow format the phone to give me a clean android install - without all the samsung and o2 apps?
CM7 is open source Android code, all Google. If you just want standard Samsung, someone posted a link to get the decrapified ROM. If you want a Samsung ROM but with the Samsung apps cleaned out maybe you can find a de-Touchwiz script.
3. How do you generally update your phone? Is it over the air? Or do you have to install a vendor specific program on your PC?
Over the air on stock phones(pretty sure of this), I think Samsung might have an application called KIES that also does it, but I'm not too sure on the specifics of that.
I've installed kies - trying up upate the firmware. It acts like it's gonna - pops up a window, preparing firmware. The phone disconnects, reconnects, pops up another window "your phone has an updated firmware, install now?" and the whole thing happens again - except I have 2 windows preparing firmware update.
Missing apple's ease of use already.

I'd seriously recommend going down the manual route using Odin. Kies has never been one of Samsung's strongest points really :v:
Coming from an iPhone yourself I'd recommend checking out MIUI, it blends together the UI of iOS with Android.

The first step you'll want to consider is flashing CF-Root which will root the phone and grant Clockworkmod recovery from which you can flash ROMs, updates, Kernels etc.

The SGSII's stock ROM is excellent. Since it's his first Android device he shouldn't start flashing immediately.

To update the firmware without Kies just follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and use this firmware: http://www.multiupload.com/8QERBJT6P7

I got my very first Android device on Monday.
I have already flashed a new firmware on it (to unlock all 512MB of RAM), a new ROM and rooted it.
It's really easy to do it.
Got miui up and running. Is it just me or the themes isn't working?

There's a difference between a ZTE Blade and a SGSII. The stock ROM is using a SGSII to its full potential. Custom ROMs don't have 1080p recording, hardware video playback of most codecs and containers, properly working BT and auto-brightness, DLNA-support or warranty.

Working fine here, look around the XDA thread for the 1.7.29 theme app.

well it took Apple 4 versions to get folders..

Is the whole flashing a bootloader process for the Galaxy S different to other phones?
Because with my blade it was two commands into command prompt and my phone was sorted.
[editline]6th August 2011[/editline]
Anyway, if you want the O2 crap gone, cant you just root it and delete the apk files from (data?) folder?

funny how you're missing apple's ease of use because i didn't have to hack my android phone to get a functional calendar, file manager, data gauge, or simple pc-device connectability
wait you can't even get those things on ios nevermind hehehe

just because they took 5 years to get folders doesn't mean they aren't as amazing as us.
oh wait..

Seems like me and my dad are the only people who like HTC Sense.

i only used folders on ios to get rid of all the apps i used sparingly because there's no way to hide them
