I was putting widgets on my homescreen and the phone hit 55 Degrees C. I turned it off and left it for a while, but WTF.

WinAmp.
What's wrong with good old WMP? I love it.

foobar2000. Absolutely wonderful. I suppose Winamp could do, WMP you can't really configure, but foobar2000 is probably the best music player I've used.
you won't be updating your phone very often, considering the last large phone release was gingerbread in december 2010 and manufacturers don't push out updates unless there's a critical issue with the firmware on your phone
but if you were to receive an update that way it is like 99% of the time received ota and from about phone> check for update in settings
Samsung is releasing new firmware for the SGS and SGSII all the time (=every few weeks). Sadly they are too lazy to release changelogs.

Go to xda-developers.com and download SetCPU from there for free, and the next time something like that happens can you post here about the percentages that the phone spends at CPU freqs? Phones really shouldn't be getting that high. If it's CPU, you can underclock it, or figure out what's taking up so much CPU time.

Also imo I'd rather have a phone with a custom UI/apps so I can decide if I want that or stock Android, or a mix of the two.

Resource hog, just like WinAmp Full (unlike WinAmp Lite though..
Personally i like MediaMonkey, because i have a fuckload of music in different folders, both on my main rig and fileserver.
And MediaMonkey makes it a breeze to organize and manage all that music and put it on my HTC Desire Z.
Instant Upload should be it's own app. It's a really useful feature but I don't see how it's part of Google+ apart from the sharing option.
If there's one reason why I love Android over iOS, it's the lack of iTunes. I agree that drag and drop isn't an ideal solution, which is why I've set up a playlist in foobar2000 that I can easily copy to my phone. So, so much better than iTunes - none of the hassle, none of the bloat, and it works how I want it to.
Having itunes automatically sort and sync your music is such a hassle. I much prefer having to battle with kies crashing and my phone not finding music I just drag onto the internal sdcard. ??
I may have a problem. I installed launcherpro, and when I edited the dock icons, I tried to use the suave HD icon pack, and when I click on one of the icon, launcherpro crashed. Previously on the stock rom, nothing happened.

Personally I prefer Google just uploading all my music for me, then me being able to stream it just about anywhere I am
Plus I've never had an issue with a music player not finding music on my sd card, if there is an issue there's usually a 're-scan' option in the settings
Because it's meant to resemble iOS. All apps are on the same page layer, and it's shared with the widgets.
oh shit now I have to find a new ROM

I don't have unlimited data so I'm not going to use a streaming service. On my SGS2 I have to add music through kies or the media scanner doesn't find it. Doesn't matter what music player because every one I have tried used the android media scanner which as I said doesn't find it.
Which shouldn't be happening?
HTC Sense is the shit in terms of just pure UI usability IMO, but the CPU/RAM usage is a turnoff to some. I personally think that with the exploding processing power/RAM of smartphones it'll be invalidated in a few years, the same way Windows 7/Vista was thought to be bloated as fuck but people ended up having Aero enabled anyway.
Will never happen as long as HTC sticks with Qualcomm processors AND keeps updating Sense accordingly.
If HTC had used a full 1GB of ram in the Sensation and an OMAP4 processor then Sense 3.0 wouldn't have the stutters, and the phone would have more usable ram. My opinion is that HTC keeps making versions of Sense that would only be perfectly smooth on their next generation of phones, but when they put out their next gen they make a new version of Sense that doesn't run properly on them all over again. 2.1 should be on the Sensation, because 3.0 is simply too intensive for the hardware in HTCs latest devices.
Maybe Qualcomm will turn it around with their Krait based cpus. But I don't see it happening.

If you enable USB debugging and drag and drop your music it will be recognized. If there was an issue more people would have brought it up by now.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the mid-cycle refresh "ticks" introduce 1 GB of ram, and 1.5 GHz dual core processors. Or maybe they would go with OMAP4 or Exynos as previously discussed. Either way if someone really doesn't want Sense they can either use a DeSense script or go with AOSP ROMs.

I have tried. It doesn't find it. I have several videos that I have to open manually in VPlayer because they do not appear in the gallery/video apps. It finds pictures no problem, but music does not appear unless synced with Kies and the only videos I have managed to get to show up are ones recorded with the camera.
I'm getting a new phone in about 2 weeks.
I wonder what it'll be...

I was thinking more along the lines of the Nokia 1011.

Fair enough - I haven't had that many issues with my Nexus S, where all I have to do to put music on (for me) is to select my playlist in foobar and select my copying preset. I don't particularly miss having iTunes wipe all my apps and music upon connecting for no discernible reason, but use what works for you, I guess.

I had this exact same problem with my Desire HD and it just went away (Maybe it was fixed in an update or something) but for now I cannot be bothered putting more music on my SGS2 because Kies takes forever and will no doubt crash half way through. And iTunes only ever wipes your device when you tell it to sync with a computer that has a different library on it, and it warns you before you do it.

I've never heard of this or seen any reports of this with the DHD or the SGS II. Therefore it's an issue on your end, and not with the device.
i dont have any of these problems because i use spotify

no seriously
what is recommended for someone with a Droid X (first one)
I have a Droid 2 and loved it when I got it but I am slowly falling in hate with it. I plug it into my car stereo (through a cassette with headphone jack output) and listen to music when I drive, but after 10 months of use the headphone jack on the phone is kinda broken to where the slightest touch can break the connection and make the phone stop playing. This wouldn't be so bad but for some reason about half the times it does this it will suddenly put the phone into Party Shuffle playlist and then I have to unlock the screen and navigate back to whatever playlist I was listening to. I guess it's a pretty small problem but I drive a lot for work so my music listenin' gets interrupted a lot.
Are there any good free Market apps that you guys recommend for audio listening?
P.S. I also use Pandora a little when I want to listen to British Indie Rock and the Pandora app is fucked and will randomly pause and play a million billion times every quarter second so sometimes it will fill a song with a ton of little pauses and slow the tempo down to like 3/4 and it's annoying as hell. Anyone else got this going on?
And I still have my old G1 but the battery is dying and I'm thinking about putting custom firmware on it. I'm gonna read the thread but if you guys have any recommendations for that too, they would be much obliged.
I've previously owned an iPad and I want to go for an Android tablet now. I can get the Motorola Xoom for 489 euros ($700). Should I go for it?

Depends, what would you mainly be using it for? General computer doings, college note taking, watching videos of cats on YouTube?

Mainly multimedia, games and perhaps some development. I don't expect it to do what my pc does.
I don't know, seven hundo seems a lot! Sleep on it and in the morning you will be enlightened and have your answer.
