I've got a HTC Legend running CM7.0.3 with a Sandisk 16GB Class 4 MicroSD. Once every week or two, half the folders disappear on my SD card including installed apps. Do you guys have any ideas as to the cause of the issue and solutions?
I have an HTC Desire, no modifications to it. I had that problem as well. I swapped the 4GB SD for a 8GB one and the problem disapeared. Not sure if it really was a dodgy SD card, but if you have a second card lying around, try that?
So have you flashed any roms on your SGS II?
Don't know what roms to flash, and never tried it before, I'm a bit scared.
Just put CM7 on my gf's Desire Z, and she couldn't love it more, after Sense really bogged it down. Most of the stuff HTC put in there is plain unnecessary :/

When I bought my MicroSD card I accidentally ordered two, so I will backup everything and try out the other one.

Not sure if the Desire Z is much different from the original Desire, but while some of the HTC and Sense stuff is unneeded, it hasn't bothered me. Then again, I'm used to less than optimal speeds on a phone after using the HTC Tytn 2 for three years; an old Windows 6 phone that was slow as fuck. Before that, it was an old Palm Tungsten W with barely enough processing power to scale a .jpg properly.

The Desire Z has a newer version of Sense I think which adds a lot more bloat, the version that I've seen on my friends' Desire and Legend both seem more lightweight

Well that explains it then. To be honest, I was thinking of getting a Desire Z (the one with the keyboard, right?) but changed my mind. This phone really does everything I want even without rooting or custom roms; wifi hotspot out of the box and good call quality/stability and a snappy interface.
Anything more media-intensive I use my Acer Iconia a500 for. That thing is a beast. Runs 720p perfectly and most 1080p clips, provided they are encoded right. HMDI output works like a charm as well. According to this thread the Tegra2 isn't that good though? Can anyone fill me in on why that is?
EDIT: Oh, it's a little slower than a competitor, righto

CM7 on a Desire Z eh?
How's it like in detail? HTC loaded the stock rom up with lots of crap that I don't need.
Like a stocks exhange app that I'd need to root to be able to remove :argh:

It's gone from a lagging heap to buttery smooth, and contains most of the stock Gingerbread stuff which all looks and functions very nicely, plus there are loads of nice interface tweaks you can use, such as a notification bar power widget, customisable lock screen, custom themes (my gf loves that I've made her phone pink)
Plus you also have the option of overclocking for added performance, or underclocking for extra battery power, and best of all, no bloat
It also comes with Trackpad unlock, and I haven't tested it on the Desire Z, but I assume like my Nexus One you can modify the colour and frequency of trackpad notifications, which is a very useful feature (ie. from a glance of my phone glowing pink I know it's an SMS, red, I know it's a missed call)

Nice, now I just gotta figure out how to backup the contact list on my Desire Z.
It should sync with Google.
My contact list syncs right up, at least.
what apps can even use dual core processing
Well all of android for starters. The OS itself supports multicore processing. Then there's various 3D game apps and many apps that now take advantage of tegra 2.

Not so much true multicore support yet
I quite seriously notice no lag at all in my daily usage, running CM7 and a 1.2 overclock.
Wow. You just went from claiming a single core with the same software is as fast as a dual core to saying YOU don't notice lag in your OVERCLOCKED single core with Cyanogenmod. That's quite a leap from your original stance and I suggest you pick a stance before entering into an argument. You can't use overclocking and a rom that isn't based off of the stock thunderbolt rom to compare performance. You said similar software and cyanogenmod sure as hell isn't similar to ANY rom other than the one on the Nexus devices.

Ok dual core. I thought 3.1 supported 4 cores. Or is that being put in with ice cream?

Proper dual core support is in Honeycomb. Dual core and multi core for mobiles will most likely be ICS.

I wish google wasn't so god damn slow with their updates. Maybe if they charged OEMs to use it they would have some incentive to fix fragmentation and slow updates.

Took a extra backup of it with https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jbapps.contact just to be on the safe side.

I love how samsung just leaves the codes in the NV_Data.bin file.
Also to SGS II owners. We think the amount of times your phone is flashed is stored in the nv_data.bin file. What you should do before ever flashing is pull the file and make a backup of the original one on your computer. That way if you ever need to send it in for warranty you can restore it and Samsung will not know you flashed any roms.
Is it possible to get rid of the music hub and gaming hub? They are useless. Also, what ROMs should I flash? I have no idea what's good and bad.

Root and either delete the APKs from system/app or use titanium backup with root to remove them.

Titanium Backup. Best.Software.Ever.
Heres a list over everything that is safe to delete and what everything does. Extremely useful when you upgrade and stock apps comes back.

Simple binary counter. The 301k ohm resister trick works like it did on the SGS resetting the counter.
Any updates on US release dates for the galaxy s 2, specifically for Verizon? I have waited so long >:
I GS2 just crashed, don't know why. All this crashing is due to software or hardware? Software right?
Anyone looking to increase battery life....check out Juice Defender free, and if you like it, buy the Ultimate version. It'll increase your battery life by 50% or more. Fucking amazing.

I got plenty of homescreen freezes and force closes on the stock motoblur software, been on different versions of the CM7 rom for awhile now and it hasn't paused for a second. It's kind of ridiculous, really.

Is it most effective on phones with lots of crap running in the background? There's hardly room to scroll on my running apps screen, and I've got barely anything on auto-update.

Unless I'm forgetting something, Juice Defender is a task-killer.
What phone and rom are you using?

Using HyperDroid 2.1.0, HTC HD2.

It's usually software, but I'm running the old KE2 firmware on my SGSII and it hasn't crashed a single time in the 2 months I've had it.
