Wow. So you're saying you expect that people buying HTC devices should overclock their cpus to get satisfactory performance? No consumer should NEED to overclock to be able to run facebook and music without getting stutters. My SGS does it at stock settings. So you're basically admitting their entire 2011 lineup gives a bad experience and is a waste of money.
Yes, it is a functional continuation of what we already had, mildly overclocked and with another core glued onto it. While it's not what we hoped and dreamed for, Qualcomm is a huge part of the SoC market, and right now it will be okay to have that. Further out, as programs in Android become more CPU/GPU hungry it will get unacceptable. Right now it isn't a big deal.
Also Qualcomm won't be making quad cores. They've stated they think their Krait dual cores will be just as fast as quad cores. But we all know that's bullshit.
Well, here's to hoping that somehow Samsung, the now orphaned OMAP division of TI, and Nvidia can make up all the production capacity if they can't stay in the game. It would be nice, though, to have a quad core ARM CPU that has a higher performance than my AMD X2 4800 by the time my contract is up, and preferably as universal as Qualcomm is now. [editline]16th August 2011[/editline] Sorry I just read a little more and realized that FB and the HTC music application should not be stuttering. I think the best option is to just go with custom ROMs if you're really out to get that smooth performance, stock ROMs are still on ext3.

China, never stop with the knockoffs.
Beware: Counterfeit Plants vs. Zombies in the Android Market File under: News By: Joe Levi |1:57 PM 16-Aug-11 |16 Comments Plants vs. Zombies is one of my son's favorite games. He was very excited when it finally came to the Android platform, but wasn't enthused to find out he had to get if from the Amazon Appstore -- not Google's Android Market. Recently that changed! Or has it? Plants vs. Zombies is now on the Android Market -- but, even though it has similar (identical?) artwork, it's not the original version of the game. It's a Chinese knockoff -- with a tempting price: free. The real Plants vs. Zombies is distributed exclusively through Amazon for a price of US$2.99. Luckily, most users aren't likely to get the fake version confused with the legitimate one: the fake doesn't show up well in searches because it's description is written entirely in Chinese. Should the developer change this, the potential for confusion with the original is could be very high -- and with that confusion comes the possibility of malware being hidden inside an app that would otherwise be trusted because of its name. As the old saying goes: Let the buy beware... especially if the app is free. The Droid HD might be one of the most highest spec'ed devices in the Droid lineage yet, packing a 4.5" qHD (or even 1280x720) display, an 8MP camera on the back with 1080p video capture, and a super thin bezel. Despite its thinness, it still makes room for an HDMI output and dedicated camera button. Still unknown are details about its shipping Android version (we're hoping for Ice Cream Sandwich) or its processor, RAM, etc. Engadget has posted some images that give us a first real glimpse of the upcoming Motorola smartphone. The design reminds us a bit of the Photon 4G, though the capacitive buttons below the screen have been redesigned which might mark a deviation for all future Motorola devices. Revealed way back in 2009, Saygus promised that the Vphone would be the first consumer phone to pass Verizon's Open Device Initiative (ODI) certification, promising revolutionary features such as video calling over 3G, Remote backup and restore for data, and up to a three year warranty. The phone won several design awards at CES, and the company promised that the device would be out sometime during 2010. Then, it disappeared. That is, until today. Sascha Segan, over at PC Magazine, broke the news to day that the Saygus Vphone finally received certification through Verizon's Open Network Initiative and would start selling the handset "soon." The phone's specifications include: 3.5" 800x480 screen 'Best in class' slide-out keyboard 806Mhz processor 256MB SDRAM 512MB Flash "Android OS" - Though the version number isn't listed in this release, the last known version it ran was 2.2 aka Froyo. 5MP rear camera with VGA front-facing camera USB host port USB modem capable In a market dominated by 4"+ black slabs and dual-core processors, the Vphone won't win any awards in the spec race. It's important to note that this is the first (and currently only) android device to receive Verizon's ODI certification. What this means is that while the device itself will run on Verizon's network, it won't be officially "supported" by them, meaning it should ship without CityID, Vcast, and the other applications Verizon puts on their other devices. This isn't a Nexus device, but it's the closest thing Verizon users have seen to a stock Android device since the original Droid. On Monday, we wake up to see that Google is buying Motorola, and on Tuesday we discover that the Vphone will actually see the light of day. What will we wake up to tomorrow?
http://www.androidcentral.com/saygus-vphone-receives-verizon-certification
That DHD looks very sexy.

When charging, it only takes half a second for the Galaxy S II to wake up versus 2.5 seconds. Is the phone clocked differently or something?
When charging, it only takes half a second for the Galaxy S II to wake up versus 2.5 seconds. Is the phone clocked differently or something?
While not charging, it's underclocked alot to save battery power, which also causes the wake up lag. If you plug it in, it's either not underclocked at all or less underclocked than usual (not sure here) - no lag. What is pretty weird though is that some people do have the lag and some don't. Speaking of the S2: I had to send mine back to get checked AGAIN because it keeps randomly restarting several times a day. I think I might have a faulty one :saddowns:

If that doesn't fix the weak battery life then Nokia 3310 it is.
Guys, what's the best phone around 280£ or 320€? I've been looking at the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, because I quite like playing games on emulators, and also because it has a joypad.

Most games don't support the play's gamepad, and it won't be able to emulate anything past a SNES.
In regards to the PvZ cost + knockoff, it's your own damn fault for not getting it while it was free on the Amazon App Store

Alright alright. What's the best phone around 280£ or 320€ then?
No shit you have a faulty one. Make sure they fix that or replace your device ASAP.
The first time it went back they returned it saying they "reflashed the software". If they send it back again with the same bullshit "fix" I'll probably break it over their heads, take a new SGS2 box, walk over their dead bodies and leave the store. I didn't pay 860 dollars to have a phone that restarts out of nowhere.
A constant high clock would sort it, but at the cost of even more battery life.
2 words: car battery :v:

What's the best media server app? I've not had much luck just looking around the market, probably because I have no idea what to look for. All I can really find are things to either upload/download from an FTP or download stuff FROM the phone to my computer. What I want, however, is to be able to stream files from my computer to my phone, like you would to a PS3 through TVersity or Media Center, for example.
i want to know this too ^
I know the Gallery app that comes stock can do it but it's ridiculously limited in what formats it supports, and i don't want to just stream stuff, i want to have the option to download it. and again, this isn't just for videos or photos which is all the Gallery app will do.
is there a superior audio application you all use? it'd be nice if I could group stuff listed as different artists as one artist without needing a computer to sort out the tags
Oh god that Droid HD looks godly.
is there a superior audio application you all use? it'd be nice if I could group stuff listed as different artists as one artist without needing a computer to sort out the tags
PowerAMP is the best music player. It's so good I want it to have my babies. A 2.0 should be out this summer, by the way.
