I'm new to Android, and also an idiot. Should I be downloading an anti-virus, and if so, which one?

You don't need it.
Android has things called permissions you can check before you install an app.
For example if a wallpaper app wants your access to your phone and messaging think "why?"
What do you guys think about the nexus s ? thinkin about getting it next week
S'very good phone.
I've heard the build quality isn't that good though
Can I just issue a general: "Ice Cream Sandwich is coming soon, don't buy Android until it does" warning? Buying a phone this time of year is horrible, both the iPhone 5 and ICS are coming soon, wait and see what happens before you shell out lots of money for a two year contract.

Ice Cream Sandwich is the OS right? Can't we just get an update?
I have a Nokia n79 atm. And its getting old .. The nexus s will be enough for me

I just got it today, and it's pretty good.
Got a Galaxy S2 two or three days ago, anything special I should do with it? (other than rooting/flashing it, I'm not doing that yet)
What's with people saying you shouldn't buy an android phone now? Just go for it, Most carriers will update their phones to Ice Cream Sandwich (Eventually), all Nexus devices will be updated in Day one
Have you even seen how carriers work? They aren't going to roll out updates to anything that's older than 6 months old, unless the OSH agreement is in effect.
It's still a better idea to wait for a higher spec phone that runs it out of the box then buy now and complain about lack of updates.

I think a lot of carriers/manufacturers do very few updates to their phones because they have to update their crappy OS addons with it. Lots of people are still on 2.2 because their phones don't have access to the 2.3 update.

Do you guys think that the US August 29th date for Galaxy SII is going to be the announcement of the release date, or the actual release date. I'm betting on the former, but hoping it's the latter.
Get the Nexus S. You get the ICS update right when it comes without bullshit manufacturer/carrier delays.
Shit.. I'm thinking (again) of actually trading my SGSII for the Motorola Droid 3 now..... the specs are close enough for me and 4G isn't a biggie, plus the slide out keyboard is usefully slick.. hmm
Does anyone own a Advent Vega? What's it like on stock 2.2? Any blaring issues for it's price tag? Did you ever flash any roms?
I am thinking of getting one because of the price tag and this
It seems to be running amazing other than the problems stated in the video
the only problem that seems overly annoying is the slightly broken top left to top middle touch issues

My best is either the release of the Hercules or an announcement across all US carriers that'll be getting it.
I got that HP TouchPad on sale with 32gb for 150 dollars and I'm already absolutely in love with it. Once they get android on it, it will probably become one of my best tech purchases in the past couple of years. Hell, it already is! Even with webOS.
Anybody know of any methods or apps in which I can record phone calls? I'm currently using a HTC Legend with CM 7.0.3 if that helps.

The trouble is the new phones that will come with the wave of ice cream goodness, like the Nexus Prime.

I really hope it can get Android, apparently webOS isn't really that quick running the dual core Snapdragon.
I thought about getting an HP TouchPad for Android, but I already have a dual-core Android phone. I can't really seem to find a use for a tablet at all whether it's Android or not that my phone doesn't already work for, unless someone else has any suggestions?
Even if you decide to get a TouchPad, you're already too late in 99% of the cases. My entire state was sold out an hour after the sale started.
I've seen some guy buy 50 of it, no wonder it got sold out really fast.
Has anyone managed to port cyanogen mod the Optimus One? I also can't find the gingerbread update for it.
What's the cheapest Android 2.2-compatible device I can get? I'm not looking for a phone per se, merely something I can use to test a game I'm developing.

HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1
Or ZTE Blade
How much is the ZTE skate now, shouldn't we start recommending that for cheap-but-good?
£149.
Unless your budget is very low, then it's easily worth getting over the Blade, I reckon

I don't know about Germany, but in Austria they were only sold for about a week at Hofer (our Aldi).
I guess it's time to get a new battery.
