Just flashed Darky Rom for SGSII, I cringed when that horrible green bootanimation showed up. Very.
You can change the bootanimation very easily.
Using lifehacker.com advice and general Android community surfing, I made a small list of apps for meself. Browser - Dolphin Browser HD News - pulse Video player - MoboPlayer Scanner - Barcode Scanner File explorer - ES File Explorer Pic Manager - QuickPic Chill - A few games like Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Doodle Jump. After that comes music creation which is MusicGrid. I'm still looking for free PowerAMP alternative. What do you guys think of my app choice? Update: Uninstalled MusicGrid. Also looking for a minimalist theme, do I need to root my device for custom themes?
My choices: Browser - Miren News - Don't use any, but pulse is very popular as you noticed. Video player - MoboPlayer Scanner - Barcode Scanner File explorer - Root Explorer, but that costs. ES File explorer might be just as good, but it wasn't available when I bought Root Explorer afaik. Pic Manager - QuickPic Chill - Wordfeud owns! I'm still looking for free PowerAMP alternative. Winamp, Cubed or the MIUI music player, if you can get a hold of it and get it running. I prefer PowerAMP though. And yes, rooting required for custom themes for most phones. You should do it anyway, it makes your phone so much better.
Does it have a camera?
Yes, it does.
You can change the bootanimation very easily.
I know. My point was that I cringed already at the bootanimation. Darky rom is one of the ugliest roms ever. Green, green, green. Everybody loves green.

I find SuperOneClick method reliable but I'm still not sure if it can brick 2.3.3 Gingerbread device, Samsung Galaxy Ace S-5830 specifically. Can anybody confirm please, thank you. Update: Holy shit, I'm shitting adrenaline right now, I just rooted my phone! You know that feeling when rooting you think that your expensive device will brick? I used this method, it's focused on my telephone. By the way, latest SoC(SuperOneClick) doesn't support Galaxy Ace. Man that method I used was easy.
Well, just finished a solid hour's session of Gran turismo with the PS3 controller and the battery only went down by 10%. I was considering an extended battery for gaming but it's not nessecary :v:
I need to get a new phone soon because my contract is ending. What are the top 3 android phones right now?
so my Galaxy S2 got back from the service: Second time I sent it there, second time it got back without any fix for the random restarting/freezing, but they've threathened me that if I send it there again with the same issue described, they might just send it back without doing anything (like they did anything in the first place?!) and denying my service request. What the fuck? According to other peoples experiences on the internet, this service really IS a waste of time. And they're Samsung's official repair place for Czech Republic. FUCK. If it crashes or freezes again, I'm going directly to a Samsung centre and they are not going to be happy about that. /rage
Are you having these problems with an untouched phone, or after root? Because it's for exactly this reason I don't dare root my SGS2.
Which translation is better( and supports more languages, like Russian) Miui.us or miuiandroid.com?
Anyone? Which version is actually better?
DAMN I didn't know you could add your Hotmail / any other email account with POP3 access to your Gmail account.... the Gmail app is so much easier on bandwidth usage and it's also push... Being connected 24/7 feels good mang
Hey guys, it's been a while. My sister wants to know what good phones there are for Verizon. I don't remember any of the names.
Is she at all tech inclined or a pretty average cell phone user? Droid 3 and X2 are pretty nice either way. The Droid 3 has a physical keyboard if she does a lot of texting.
Is she at all tech inclined or a pretty average cell phone user? Droid 3 and X2 are pretty nice either way. The Droid 3 has a physical keyboard if she does a lot of texting.
well the DX1 is absolutely terrible and I'd personally stay away from everything Motorola. At least for the moment, we'll see what Google pumps out later down the line now that they own Motorola
Hey. Motorola makes some seriously high quality phones. And now that Cyanogenmod (And MIUI to an extent) has been ported to the D2, D2G and DX they're great phones.
too bad the hardware is shit and Verizon demands $20/mo for their horrible wifi tethering otherwise you risk termination if caught. the cheap ass buttons on the front make me think I could craft a better phone from stone, the phone will sit in my pocket for a few hours unused and become extremely hot, same thing if sitting on a desk with the back up. The camera button feels like total shit and generally feels like a cheap phone. The screen is overly large and you may enjoy it at first but you come to hate it considering it's really heavy and the screen doesn't look nearly as nice as some other Androids, and it's just kinda annoying to have a phone so large.
Droid 3, Droid X2, HTC Vigor (October), GSII variants, Nexus Prime?
Anyone? Which version is actually better?
They're basically the same since they both build on the official stock MIUI. They support the same languages and everything. Honestly, the only thing separating most MIUI-roms are the included apps, sometimes the theme, and if they're only compatible with one device. MAYBE some small change in the rom, but thats always available through an addon.
Droid 3, Droid X2, HTC Vigor (October), GSII variants, Nexus Prime?
If you think you can wait until october, I say wait and see what the next Nexus will be like. I think that the HTC Sense UI is buttfuck ugly and bloated, that obviously won't matter if you are planning to root it, but Nexus' have better community support. GSII is nice, but as I said, if you can wait until october ICS might be out by then. It seems they will offer a software alternative to the physical buttons today, so who knows, you might get a phone with just a nice screen. Remember though, the best idea is to go to a phone store and just try them all. That gives you a better idea of the phone than videos and reviews will ever give.
Swype is amazing on tablets, it's been redesigned to support the higher resolutions.

Personal preference thing, I personally like the much more consistent and integrated feel of everything. Nexus' are good in that their software is stock Android, which means the best ROM is just an improved stock ROM, which I always prefer over any other type of ROM (port from other devices, etc etc). Someone should start a 'Post your homescreen' thread. If not, I will.
Just flashed Darky Rom for SGSII, I cringed when that horrible green bootanimation showed up. Very.
Darky's ROM is bad
Someone should start a 'Post your homescreen' thread. If not, I will.
Wasn't there one. NVM, do it. Of course you are. We just got our hands on exclusive photos and details of a mysterious Android handset from Verzo, a newcomer to the market. The phone's called the Kinzo and is slated for a launch in late September. Verzo's keeping a tight lid on the specifics for right now, but we know the phone was designed by Novague and it'll feature its own UI -- not in an attempt to be different, it says, but "to get the most from the Android system." The brand is playing the humility card in its release, claiming that it's not trying to change everything or be the next Samsung or Apple, nor is it going to be "the slimmest, fastest, or the best... for now." However, Verzo plans to be open to suggestions and actively involved in what its customers love and hate about its products. The company aims to first sell the Kinzo on its website, with shipments to the US and Europe shortly after; the rollout will continue in Russia, China, South America and the Middle East in late 2011 / early 2012. Verzo's definitely worked up a nifty teaser here, so how intrigued are you? Check out a few more images of the Kinzo below, and follow past the break for the company's press release.
Are you having these problems with an untouched phone, or after root? Because it's for exactly this reason I don't dare root my SGS2.
Untouched. I still don't feel like I know enough about Android to root/install custom ROMs etc.
New Samsung Galaxy phones announced, now with specs: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/08/24/samsung-announces-alphabet-soup-of-galaxy-smartphones/ [editline]24th August 2011[/editline] The W looks really good specs-wise.
At EDIT: Apparently Iphones suck at posting on Facepunch too, back on a PC now, I originally posted to show the AT&T roadmap leak

How do they even win these cases?
-snip-
Update on Samsung vs Apple stuff: Samsung is going to continue to sell the phones, but just with a different gallery app. Problem solved.
How do they even win these cases?
they use the money from their insanely overpriced computers to pay lawyers
But.. the gallery app in the Galaxy series.. isn't that the stock android gallery app?
