Breaking: I have just managed to keep my Thunderbolt alive for more than two hours on 4G without charging. Thank you, underclocking and smartass, you are truly my greatest assets.
Wow is the battery life really that bad?
Yes. HTC packs a measly little 1200mAH battery into it, and the LTE radio doesn't help. I've had to underclock it to 1024mhz(max) and 245mhz min on smartass using a custom kernel in order to keep the life this good, and it's on wifi, so I'm not sure how it'll do on 4G. It's idle right now, but sipping much less than it normally does off battery.
But that's not even a TINY battery, aren't most like 1500mAH, .3 isn't gonna make that much difference is it?
You'd be surprised. I don't know what it is about the phone, but it drains absurdly. Some people have no problem, others have batteries that last all of ten minutes. The prevailing theory is that it's related to the LTE radio, considering it's the first LTE phone in the US. [editline]28th August 2011[/editline] Wait, it has a 1400mAH battery, which isn't necessarily small, but it sure as hell feels like it with the TBolt. Thing is, Moto and, as far as I know, the other manufactures tend to put in much bigger batteries. Doesn't the Atrix have a 1900mAH one or something like that?

The main things that drain battery are live wallpapers, having wifi/data connection on, having bluetooth on, and sometimes a background app can be causing it, but most background apps are set to sleep when they're not in focus. If you want to check if a background app is using battery, you can use the battery monitor
Smartphones generally have very underwhelming battery life out of the box, I tried Juice Defender to give me more confidence using my Galaxy S II but no joy. I don't know what to do other than be near a charger if I'm giving it heavy usage (less than 24 hours), but on and off the battery is good for 2 days and maybe more. Static wallpaper, brightness 2nd lowest setting and wifi on most of the time. Brightness is always the number 1 drain, followed by Android system. If the next big update to Android in Q4 isn't a significant improvement in battery life I'm going to be very sad.
Hm... Two quick questions about Cyanogen 7 (Samsung Captivate): 1) I can't connect to the internet/upload Facebook photos/tweet/anything 3G related since I flashed (worked fine before), but can still send texts 2) Where in the settings can I adjust vibration intensity?
So I want to root my SGS2, and I want optimization, and good battery life. What would be the best things to use? Rom wise etc This will also be my first time rooting
Posted before but got no answer, I'll reword it. My contract is running out soon and I want to get an android (I've never had one before). What are the best options right now? I'm thinking about an HTC Sensation 4G but I'm really not experienced with phones. However, I'm willing to learn about all the customization and things.
samsung galaxy s2! best phone on the market right now

Re-call the activation number. On Verizon it's *228, but for your carrier it might be different. 2. No clue

It's not complicated at all.
Apparently Verizon isn't getting the Galaxy S II. That's really, really lame. They refuse to get that, I refuse to upgrade. The charge/thunderbolt are 2 phones I have no interest in, and I don't think the bionic is anything great really.
Was gonna get the xperia arc but i've heard its laggy and the case cracks so i'll be getting the galaxy s2
Fuck yeah Gone down to 29% posting that :v: MIUI loves battery
Now I am too scared of rooting etc.. found a kernel I like, but aside from that I have no idea what else to do.. Yes I've read around XDA, but I don't like the idea of fucking up and bricking my very expensive phone :/

And really, the chance for any bricking at all is minimum to none nowadays.
samsung galaxy s2! best phone on the market right now
Though there's an updated LTE version with a 4.5 inch screen and 1.5GHz processor being announced this week. [editline]29th August 2011[/editline] Or I might be thinking of the 5 inch Galaxy Q.
I really like miui but I need to change back to something based on Samsung's rom for all the in car and voice features. Time to go rom hunting!
Anyway, is there a way to share my PC's ethernet internet with my phone?
My dad bought a Galaxy S2 and the battery life is complete shit. It lasts about 5 hours simply locked and idling with no use at all, and dies within the hour if you actually use it. Wifi is off, networks are off, GPS is off, all running tasks are closed etc, does anybody have any idea why?
Return it and say exactly what you said here
Is it broken or something?
Is it broken or something?
Sounds like a faulty battery to me.
Sounds like a faulty battery to me.
He's rather pissed off, because he woke up at 4am, took it off charge, fell back asleep and was woken up again at 9am with it beeping telling him to put it back on charge. You might be right, he's ordered an extra battery because he thought he would have to swap batteries mid day, but if the battery itself is crap then that should solve the problem, right?

It's either the battery or a faulty app. If the new battery doesn't work try a factory reset and maybe upgrade to the newest firmware.
The battery life on the S2 isn't anything amazing, but it surely lasts more than 5 hours especially with everything turned off. Over night (8+ hours of inactivity) it takes up like 4% of battery at max*. Returning it would be a good idea. * this is while running Stock Samsung ROM on the KE7 Update. I've heard reports of battery life getting even better on newer firmwares. ALSO, try checking Battery Stats (Settings > About phone > Battery Usage) to see if there's some app that might be hogging on the battery alot. Usually Android OS or Display are the most battery consuming items (which is okay. if it's something else, it's most likely not okay).
