From my experiences as a server admin, I've learned to stay away from Essentials. It has improved a little from when I first used it, but they didn't provide a user-friendly way to replace specific commands with other plugin's. (And opening up the jar then modifying the plugin.yml every time it got updated became annoying really quickly)

It really does have it's good things, being an admin on 3 servers i can tell you it is really good for not just players but the moderators and admins.
Anyways, I haven't had much trouble at all with Essentials.
