Well i actually didnt realize they have page on their site to get a quote. found it a few hours ago. they dont charge for power, and its unlimited bandwidth, but its $35 per/mbps. For 10mbps, 1u server, 1ip address its over $400/month seems awfully expensive to me. seems like more than it should be.
Jesus fucking christ
Thats rediclously expensive
Yeah, that's what I thought. I could get the same thing from a colo host a little over 2 hrs drive more away for a 1/4 of the price. I'm still gunna do the visit though. Maybe I'll get lucky and they haven't updated the pricing in a long time.
Is 59fr./month cheap per device?

Not sure If i'd say cheap, but its about a good price.
so the datacenter sucked, literally. Was such a disappointment. We walked into the server room and i could feel heat. Last I checked, you really should keep the rooms with servers in cold. They have things everywhere. It was quite disorganized and a complete mess. I also have to thank Darksouls for showing me stuff I never would have thought of before that flew red flags with them.
Question now. Is it recommended to replace the thermal paste on a server after so many months?

No problem, glad I could help.
As long as you don't remove the heatsink you really shouldn't ever need to replace the paste. There is no definitive lifespan for thermal paste - but obviously if the CPU starts getting hot for no apparent reason and everything else checks out then try replacing the paste.
How not to pack a $12,000.00 MSRP switch.

Messy, but functional home lab to learn production shit at work. I work for a small fiber ISP that mostly uses Cisco and FreeBSD.
From top to bottom:
2x 24 Port Linksys Gigabit Switches
Used temporarily for my set-top box until I can figure out multicast on the 6500 series
Supermicro running FreeBSD 9.1
AMD Quadcore 1.8 GHz
8 GB DDR2 RAM
8x 2TB WD Reds in RaidZ1
1x 120GB OS Drive
Used as SAN/NAS
Norco White Box Running ESXi 5.1
AMD FX-8120 Octocore 3.2 GHz
32 GB DDR3 RAM
2 Port GB Intel NIC
Used for ~15 VMs:
~5 Apache Web servers
Mail
DNS
Subsonic for music
Plex for video
Couple game servers
Mumble
Some other stuff I forgot
Acer Netbook Runing FreeBSD 9.1
Monitoring server using Xymon and Nagios
DigiCM 32 Port Console Server
Bought it for cheap just experimenting with it
Cisco 6513
WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE
WS-X6148-GE-TX x4
WS-X6816-GBIC? x2
Bigass switch used for all networking, some modules are pulled out to save power.
Does my NAT and VLANs
Trying to figure out multicast and learn more about BGP, have a few friends setting up a BGP routed VPN network.
Ordered and being shipped:
2 Dell C1100s with 72GB RAM and dual quads, to learn Xen with XCP because my work is beginning to use it.
2 APC 1500VA UPSes, because my towns power sucks dick.
Will post update when they arrive.
Keeping the thread alive, here's a pile of switches that I get to test and clear the configs/vlans for.

Once I kick my feet up on those 2911 boxes, things get pretty comfy. It's pretty nice, actually. This is the back corner of a back room so I usually turn all the lights off and play music from my phone, it's a great little getaway.
I work in cisco's tac lab.
Any questions guys?
I work in cisco's tac lab.

Obligatory "what's it like to work for Cisco".
I'm not very experienced yet so bear with me, but what sort of pressure is there to have certifications, and what sort of incentives are there for moving through to CCIE? Also what advantages does working for TAC give you in terms of climbing up Cisco's ladder in terms of employment?
What do you guys recommend for self-learning as far as servers go?
I would like to sometime get an older computer to setup a home server on, then make a little home network for practice.
I'll be taking Networking classes soon, but since i sometimes have to do stuff at work now like add users and things like that in Active Directory, i would love to be able to get some experience before classes start up.
Only problem is, i'm not really sure how to go about learning on my own, and i wouldn't say i feel comfortable trying out new things on our two servers at work full of patient data.
What did you guys do?
long time no see

was at the colo yesterday and today installing a new R720
we're building out a hyper-v hosting platform...should be pretty dope
the R720 is our administration / management server for System Center 2012 R2
we have 4 other hyper-v hosts and a 24TB Dell EquiLogic SAN array
and I'm running the project for the most part...should be fun!

these were mostly reference pics, but since it looks like you all like switches too I'll throw a couple in there
I'm going back out next week, will get some better pics.
[t]http://puu.sh/5ivfq[/t]
(looks like the rest of the switch pics won't upload...oh well)
This is my home server which i have my NAS and host the beautiful website of http://badass.dk/ on

Not so much to say about it, the website doesnt really run that good because of the shitty upload speed that i have, but its going to get upgraded some time before new years hopefully...
since it's a nightmare to get the specs from a linux based os, have a photo instead

Just to clarify firstly I don't work for TAC, I work in the TAC lab doing the initial set up of the equipment (finding equipment,Linecards, loading ios, cabling, vms, connecting to the backbone etc.
It is great fun, so many cool people and loads of cool amazing stuff. I had a presentation on the nexus 9k the other day.
I am not sure on the incentives as I am not TAC, but the company pay for all my certs (ccna, ccnp etc).
And climbing the ladder I have no idea as well, TAC seems like a pretty good place to be.

You don't really need a "server" case, just some organization with your wiring.
[editline]15th November 2013[/editline]
Also, if i'm correct, the following two commands should output your server's specs
cat /proc/cpuinfo
cat /proc anything

My server has a Corsair 330R, saw it was cheap and it's not really noisy. I would probaly recommend something with a bit more HDD slots, I only use 3 but the fact that I'm limited to 4 (ignoring 5.25 to 3.5 adapters)
I considered a real server case for a long time, but buying rack cabinet etc is a bit too expensive and unneccesary.

i can't organize them, there's no backplate to put the wires behind
also it's a full size psu with a shitton of cables and i can't put them anywhere either
aaaalso, the case fans are really loud and it's a big mess altogether.

Surprisingly everything worked. Was no HDDs when I pulled it out though. How long it'll last though, who knows. I'm sure they stressed it if they threw it out.

Every company IT ever. Problem is you need to find one that doesn't have 50 friends lined up to get servers from the manager.

Yup. We just recycled about eight old ProLiant DL380 G5's. If any of you feel like coming to West Michigan for a server I can probably get you one.
