Our render farm over at MammothVision. I just built the 3 Fractal Design Define Mini machines over the past two days, with 2 more due tomorrow and/or the next day. Xeon 1230V2 under a Hyper TX3, 16GB RAM, Samsung 840 + WD Caviar Blue 1TB, HD 5450 in all of them. They're running desktop boards and normal Windows 7 Pro, and are currently running 24/7 on MandelBulber, churning out the trippiest-as-fuck backgrounds for our current project. The small HP desktop is an Athlon II x2 machine with 4GB RAM, which serves as our Maya Backburner manager system, the case that two of the Define Mini machines are sitting on is a Phenom II x4 with 8GB of RAM which serves as our Maya Renderer (for testing purposes, eventually the Define Mini machines will be put on the Maya stack), and the big HP workstation to the right is our biggest paperweight so far.
Not pictured: Belkin Omniview Pro2 16-port KVM switch, Netgear 48-port Prosafe Gigabit switch. I love my job as head of IT for MammothVision, but it's damn tiring, as I have to carry all the computers.
Such as these motherfuckers.

FUCK THESE THINGS!
Giant 1U rackmount servers with either 2x single-core HT Xeons or 2x single-core Opterons and a fuckmassive 2GB of RAM each. This was our old render farm from a couple years ago. The fuckwit who set them up had Windows XP and too many services running at once, so they idled at 25% CPU usage all the time. They each weigh ~65 lbs too. I had to carry them to the warehouse when we retired the fuckers.

Interior of Xeon one(the paper ductwork say something like "DO NOT OPERATE WITHOUT THESE COVERS, FUCKWIT!!")

Opteron.
These things are utter shit. They also have 8(!!!!!!!!!) squirrel-cage blowers in the front for cooling, so I'm pretty sure that under the right circumstances they could fly under their own power.
shoulda stuck with good 'ol 6500 series
they are literal tanks, I think we could invade north korea with those things
We have those too. In total we have 4 6509-V-Es, 8 7010s, and 2 7018s across the two facilities I work in. We have lots of other stuff at our remote sites as well.

Hi. I guess its time to start learning...
I tried booting up the DL380 Got a 214 Error "Processor Power Module Failed, Processor 2" removed said cpu and she simi booted. Still gotta figure this out.
And the Dell PowerEdge 1650, some issues with it too.. Haven't figured it out.
Soooooooooon

Don't Rackservers usually have the same length?
Don't Rackservers usually have the same length?
what? U is a rack unit, 1U is the small servers, 4U is the big servers. You define how many rack units you can hold when you speak racks. this is basically height and holes :v:
Woooooooo I added 2 other Dell PE2850's. Kinda wimpy CPU's and only 4gb ram each.
I believe the only beefy one is the DL380 and it has a missing CPU Power Regulator.....
But also have a nice StorageWorks, and a little Dell PE1850...
When I first kicked them all on I was like WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAA JET PLANE TAKING OFF
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1031910/2013-08-05%2019.23.57.jpg[/t]
Did I forget to mention I only have 350$ tied into all of it... And the server cab is sadly only a 36U
[editline]fkg[/editline] Ghetto keyboard ontop of the nice (KVM?) Is because the KVM is PS2 and the 2850's only have USB's! Runs to Walmart to "barrow" some gear.

I need side panels...
And I'm looking for racks (just small ones for a server, switch maybe some new loose stuff, but no biggies), and I'm wondering why the cheapest ones are crap and cost $200 for a bunch of metal
Every now and then some <$100 racks roll through the Craigslist in my area. Can't really invest in something like that until I get my own place, though.

They're great little cases, I love how I can reconfigure them from quiet to cool and everything in between, as well as having great dust filtration. Just consider this a Define Mini orgy.
Fairly inexpensive cases as well.
maaaan rack mounting stuff like servers, switches seems like great fun. pains me i don't have the resources (money, power, space) to try set one up myself.

I use one of these for my Cisco lab. I actually got mine for free but $30 isn't all that bad for 11U of space. Obviously you can't put a full size blade on there, but it's a great place to start.

Hey guys, I am not supposed to take a picture of any hardware at work, but this isn't hardware right.

I've made a little upgrade from what was nicknamed last time I posted it the Helicopter, to an actual sort of server box.

I use it to host game and web servers, it's doing the job so far.

Rearranged the Tetris Array into something vastly more sensible and professional looking. Also getting rid of the HP mini desktop, promoting the Phenom II x4 machine to render manager.
