where the fuck is the "subject" field?

No such area.
Welp, looks like it is back to Safe Mode to try and see just what the hell happened.
Hey, quick question regarding RAID 1.
If I mirror 2 disks, can I still have individual stand-alone disks in the system?
If this make sense:
(RAID 1)Disk 1: 1101
(RAID 1)Disk 2: 1101
Disk 3: 0110
Disk 4: 1001

Google assumes that if you're making a reply, you're going to not want to bother with changing the subject, especially considering the fact that most mail clients nowadays have conversation views too to match Google.
Beware though, changing a subject might annoy people. Use it sparingly (such as for starting a new conversation from a tangent in another one).
for the past few years, since my laptop was fairly new, its hard drive occasionally makes an odd clicking sound that repeats about one or twice every five seconds for a solid few minutes. My options are to wait it out until it gets better eventually, or to reboot. It's never caused problems, but can it?
Depends on what the noise is. A single click could be that the drive is parking the R/W head aggressively to prevent damage in a fall. My ASUS 1 TB HDD does this as it sits idle to the SSD a lot.
Check the SMART data to be sure, but odds are its fine if you don't notice any performance issues, corruption, or nasty noises.
So I finally managed to open up my friend's Macbook to get the corrupted hard drive, but I can't seem to actually fix the issue no matter what program I use (free programs, at least). I've heard TestDisk should help fix the issues, but I'm not sure how to use it to do so. Can anyone lend a hand?

Would it not be better to use recovering software before tampering with hard drive?
(Noob here, barely know a shit so genuinely wondering)
I've got my xbox hooked up to my PC through SPDIF In and I can use Dolby AC3 or DTS, only problem is my input device doesn't support decoding those formats. Is it possible I can use software to decode it? I know FFDShow can decode it for video/audio files but that's not what I really want. Is there anyway I can decode DTS/AC3 using software?
Thanks
[editline]5th November 2015[/editline]
or is there a convenient way to get my setup to support my xbox one surround sound? cause right now my setup is this
xbox > optical to usb sound card > to pc > out from pc to speakers (but sound card doesn't support DTS/AC3 which is why i asked the initial question)
speakers have 3 3.5mm jacks as input only
the xbox can do 5.1 hdmi output aswell but my monitor only has a single 3.5mm jack out so it can only output stereo
i cant think of a way to get surround to work without a bunch of other components

The issue is that the disk isn't 100% readable to get the files from. When my friend had taken her Macbook to Best Buy under warranty, they could only get ~20GB of useless data.
I'm going to try using TestDisk to copy everything over to an external drive, format the original + install OS X on it and see if it works, otherwise I'm going to convert the external drive to an internal one for her.
So my computer has been blue screening lately. Usually with the system thread_exception_not _handled
I searched for some videos on how to fix the problem and they say this problem mostly occurs because of corrupted files on your graphic's card driver. So when I went to do the step by step in the instruction video I noticed that I actually haven't updated my drivers in a while.
So here's the question: Does updating the drivers actually fix this problem? Or is it better to just roll-back to the previous versions and then install it again?
Here's the video in question:

Its not a guarantee, but you have no reason not to upgrade your video drivers if you have issues right now that you can trace back to your video drivers. Video driver updates tend to fix a lot of issues (including games and stability fixes), and you should really only downgrade unless you find that upgrading is causing more issues.
So I'm thinking about overclocking my CPU to get a little more power out of it.
CPU: Intel Haswell i5-4670k @ 3.4GHz
Mobo: MSI Z87-G31.
I still have the stock cooler and I've read that to really do any sort of overclocking you need to have an aftermarket cooler. Googling says that 4.4GHz at 1.14v is the "safe" overclock for the CPU.
What kind of CPU fan should I be looking for and did any of my googling actually sound?

usually the go to fan is the hyper 212+. that should support your 4.4 overclock, although that voltage seems a bit low. i'd expect about 1.2-1.25V at that frequency, but if it's stable at 1.14, then great.
on my 4690k i'm running 4.5 ghz at 1.25V.
these processors are really easy to overclock and there aren't too many factors involved other than setting a manual CPU voltage and playing with the multiplier. after you've overclocked, test for stability. I personally don't like to see temps past 70C but that's from the q6600 era and apparently it's ok to hit 80C now during stress testing. your call.
I basically built a new PC and installed Windows 10 on it, but I can't activate it, I only have a windows 7 key. Am I gonna have to install windows 7 then upgrade or can I get Microsoft to let me activate it with my windows 7 key?

Ah,
There's an update in a few days that should take Windows 7 or so keys straight up for activation,
otherwise if you in for preview builds (data collection), the latest iso also has this functionality

I currently have Windows 8.1 on my 1TB SSD, Samsung has their "Samsung Magician" software that tells you how much has been written to your SSD and so far I'm not noticing anything unusual. If anything, more writing is being used by me downloading music and other files.
Is it wise to put an OS on an ssd? I'm worried that it will deteriorate quickly because of all the loading
The only place you should be putting an OS is on an SSD.

If you're pretty smart. you can change the OOTB experiance to set your appdata and other user folders to a HDD, which helps a lot for lifespan.
I only have my documents offloaded onto a HDD unfortunatly, I haven't tried setting up with userdata on other drives
Don't worry much about wear
Another question, is it alright to daisychain splitters like these:

I need 3 connections but my mb only has one system fan port
Maybe I should just plug one splitter in to my mb for 2 fans and connect one fan directly to the psu
yes, but I wouldn't go any higher than 3 fans per header. your motherboard can only push so many amps (1) through those the fan headers. but even 3 is pushing it, really.

So, to clarify: This icon means only certain sets of "insecure" data (images from some hosting sites, for example) are being loaded, and others (like JS) are not, correct?

Ah, well its alright now, I just installed win7 then upgraded to win10 with the keep nothing option, close enough to a fresh install I guess.
Anyone here got a 6700k?
I just got one and it's working fine, but the temps seem a bit higher than expected under load.
I've got a Corsair H80 and its pretty cool while idle, ~25 degrees (though I've seen as low as 17 when room is cold) but when it's under load I've seen it get as high as 70 which seems like a massive increase. If it idles at 25 I'd expect maybe 50 at most under load?
When I say under load I mean games too, not a stress test.
Could it be:
Since thermal paste hasn't cured yet?
Radiator is exhaust so could be getting warmer because of GPU heat?
Or is the 6700k just kinda hot?
Is it overclocked at all? I mean the H80 isn't really a fantastic cooler for the money. Is it mounted evenly? What thermal paste did you use?
No it's not overclocked. The thermal paste is arctic silver 5, and I believe it's mounted correctly.
I mean, the idle temp is great, what's confusing me mainly is the difference between idle and load. Surely there shouldn't be such a huge difference?

That's a little of the problem. AS5 has a 200 hour cure time although it usually drops temps by 5c, not such a huge amount, but it's a shit paste compared to more modern examples like MX-4. I'd say the mounting pressure isn't quite even or high enough, sometimes those corsair AIO water coolers need plastic washers under the backplate to get enough pressure on the CPU to cool properly. Try refitting the cooler with a set of plastic washers under the backplate behind the motherboard, you should be able to get good pressure then.

I really doubt the thermal paste is the issue, everything I can find says there's like 1-2 degrees difference between AS5 and MX-4.
I don't even know if this is an issue, for all I know it could be just the way the 6700k is.
I think I'll try changing the radiator to intake though and see what kind of difference that makes.
Edit: I read something about Z170 boards being a little "over generous" with voltage by default, I played GTA V for a bit and the CPU voltage was around ~1.38 most of the time, which is a little high for default clock speeds isn't it? My 3570k was 4.4ghz at 1.16v. Could also try undervolting it.
The CPU peaked at 65 during GTA V, which I guess isn't that bad, what's the maximum recommended temp?
Trying to find out why my Windows 7 over the past year keeps getting more and more blue screens of death because it's holding me back from playing anything, every time it crashes no new crash dump files are sent to c:\windows\minidump. Oldest crash dump file I have is over a year old from around the time the BSOD issue started to get really bad.
I have my Startup and Recovery options all set for a kernel memory dump to drop to %SystemRoot%Memory.DMP or whatever it was, tried setting it to the c:\ directory and it still didn't work so I set it back.
While I'm posting this I also get 4 steady beeps, pause, and repeat when it crashes sometimes. I looked it up and I'm thinking it's a system memory problem?

You get that because people attach images from websites that aren't over https
some websites outright block any foreign content loaded without TLS, (twitter, steamdb)
