what is the best guide on how to flash a radeon 7970 BIOS onto a 7950?
To what goal? From what I understand, the 79xx's are laser cut. You don't get the shader gains of the 69xx series. All you may get is some extra voltage headroom for overclocking.
Anyone have suggestions for a compact PC case with handles? I'm kinda thinking of the HAF XB or the BitFenix that supports ATX but I'm really unsure.
I just want something I can fit an H100i, AX750 and up to 2 GPU's. ( and a DVD reader just because I still need one )

oh, i guess i got my 6's and 7's mixed up
I need help with my wireless if someone can chime in. I have a laptop and a desktop, both have integrated wireless, desktop runs win7, lappy win 8.1. Now the laptop has no problems connecting and keeping a strong connection. I usually get a ping under 20ms on speedtest and get speeds of 20MBPS no problem.
The desktop, in the same room only gets 1-2 bars of connectivity and also gets a good ping, usually under 20ms, but will sometimes randomly hang up and the highest speed I've been able to achieve today is just 3 mbps.
Is my desktop antenna shot? any ideas?
Just quick question to anyone who will care to answer: Just picked up FO4 and made a stupid mistake of not checking minimum specs. After going over and over i'm slightly worried that my CPU which is a AMD athlon II X3 455 is not quite up to snuff. Reading around review sites that have got a hold of it pointed out it runs on a slightly upgraded creation engine, same as ES4 which i can run quite well and to further that my CPU is apparently comparable to the minimum req put on steam which is an AMD Phenom II X4 945.
So I guess my question is , Am I boned and just wasted 60 bucks till i can put in a new CPU? :frown:
You should still be able to refund it.
Replace current GTX770 with a GTX970 or pick up another 770 to use in SLI?
Replace current GTX770 with a GTX970 or pick up another 770 to use in SLI?
a single 970
whadap dudes
so my pc (which you guys set me up with the build) is getting old.
I'm thinking I need to buy a new gpu.
Heres my setup as of now:
win 7 64 bit
amd phenom II x4 965
8gb ram
asus m4a88t-v evo mobo
1gb ati saphire amd radeon hd 6800 (forgot the specific model)
QUESTION:
Can I just pop a R9 290x in there and start playing fallout 4? Is it more complicated than that?
i'm really curious as to seeing if that phenom is overclocked or not
if it isn't, i'd really suggest an overclock
tbh, i'm not sure of the PCIE limitations using an R9 290x on a motherboard like that either, seems like it'd be pretty dated
on top of that, if fallout 4 is a gpu intense game, you may run fine
but when it comes to cpu intense games, there will be a severe bottleneck
i think any game that is heavy on multiplayer will also suffer from a severe bottleneck (BF4, MMO's, battlefront, ARMA)
idk, does it have to be a 290x? maybe a 280, or 280x?
So my headphone jack on the inside of my computer case is bent. I've been using the back speaker out jack, but it doesn't give me 7.1 sound like the headphone jack did.
Should I see if I can reach and bend the headphone jack in the case straight so I can get sound on both ears?
Also I have a benq monitor and gtx 760. The Benq monitor has a headphone port, should I try running an HDMI cable to my 760 if it has one to see if I get sound that way? (If yes, is there anything I would have to change cable wise when switching to HDMI? Do I get rid of the DVI cable?)
You can get 7.1 off a 3.5mm jack?
That's news to me :o
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
you could get away with that x4 965 cpu if you throw a 290x in there
it would be a bottleneck but fallout 4 is proven to be quite GPU intensive.(with everything turned to max and running DSR GPU is reporting full usage and it also looks lovely)
i would jump for it but i haven't seen any other machines with a 965 and a top end newish gpu run fallout 4
will wait for second opinion but im 50/50 it would be ok
who would make the best card for my setup, or does manufacturer not matter?
who would make the best card for my setup, or does manufacturer not matter?
manufacturer doesnt matter tbh
the only factors that really dictate what would be the best card for your set-up is the rest of your hardware
in this case, a phenom II x4 is pretty dated, and on top of that, trying to throw in a new top-of-the-line GPU with it is definitely going to cause some issues for you. MAYBE not for fallout 4 (not entirely too sure tbh), but for other games (if you play a lot of games frequently), the bottleneck is going to be pretty noticeable
should i maybe get a not top of the line but still very nice gpu?
should i maybe get a not top of the line but still very nice gpu?
i'd still suggest a 280/280x
saw a thread earlier on tomshardware where a guy was using your same CPU (assuming it is a BE) OC'd to 4.0 and not experiencing any bottlenecks on a 280
however, the games he was playing were all single-player games.
so naturally, expect otherwise on multiplayer/cpu intense games
BUT
if you're not as pressed to upgrade your GPU, you could grab a new board and a new CPU first
my internet sucks butt anyways, im a lonely single player boy.
I think I'm more pressed for gpu, just because I want to play fallout 4 so bad. My cpu meets minimum requirements but my gpu does not.

then get it, son B)
you could still get the 290x, and when you're ready, head back over here to discuss your new mobo/cpu options (given that the 290x doesnt cause you any problems in fallout 4)
HOWEVER, be sure your PSU is juicy enough for a 290x
shit, i can't even remember what i put in there
edit:
600w do the trick?

Pretty much my main partition Home (C:) is super full, and it has the Windows OS on it. Everything is becoming incredibly choppy and horrible. I've gone through My Documents / My Downloads and deleted everything, but space eventually gets taken up by program updates etc.
My question is: can I format the SSD (E:) partition and merge it with the Home (C:) partition? IIRC they're both partitioned space from the same SSD.
I'd like to be able to merge them without having to use a Windows CD. Something I could do in the Computer screen where I just right click and wizardry them together would be perfect.

wait, so if im reading this correctly, both C/E are on the same SSD?
if so, you could navigate to the start menu search, type "partition", select "create and format hard disk partitions", and dick around from there
you should be able to format E and reallocate it to C, but dont quote me on that
Yup, both on the same SSD. Will give that a go.

Is this functionality avaliable to you in 7?

Moving the user libraries should help, I store mine on a HDD instead of the ssd
@notlabbet
depends on the build of the PSU
specific model?

So I formatted the SSD, but now I'm left with the option to just create a new partition, which kinda defeats the purpose. I'm finding no way of merging the two partitions together.
PS: I re-allocated my Documents and Downloads folder to my main HDD, thanks.

Eh, turns out I can't be lazy and extend the partition if it ain't formatted. Will probs format then.
Anyone got any decent programs I can use to backup all my shit?

give that a shot
edit:
wait, i just threw a junk drive on my shit, formatted it, and tried what you did.
Disk 1: ~300gb
1) formatted
2) (D:)eez nuts
3) shrink volume by 5000mb
4) 4.88gb unallocated
5) format
6) (F:)uck
7) delete volume
8) (F:)uck is deleted
9) right click (D:), extend volume aka 5000mb of deleted (F:)uck
10) select deleted/unallocated partition
11) conjoins into (D:)
12) ???????????????????????????
13) profit
There's this freeware that you can use to quickly see where your free space went, it's called Scanner: http://www.steffengerlach.de/freeware/

Treesize is a better utility.
isn't windirstat still the goto or did I miss a memo
Better in terms of features, yeah? I just like it because it's small (240 kbytes), quick and easy to use.
edit: Also no installation required.
