Is there any reason my computer is only using 0.1% of network bandwidth? This is the route to google (with IPs and such removed) According to speedtest.net, I get only 1.75 Mbps download speed, which is 1/100 the speed I usually get. I visited a sketchy site by accident earlier, which I can provide a link to if necessary. I've done the classic restarting my router and PC as an attempt to fix, but no dice. Not sure if this is the right place, sorry. Update: It solved itself. When I posted this, it had been going on for like 4 hours. Apparently my ISP was laying cables and switched everyone in my neighborhood to the same one while they worked, or something like that. I'll leave this up just because
Reposting from the Linux thread So I decided to give Xubuntu a spin (again) and I seem to have some trouble with the icons. [t]http://imgur.com/ArIIyEgl.png[/t] It doesn't really use some of the icons, and I can't seem to figure out what the problem is [t]http://imgur.com/Kx14EV9l.png[/t] Folders doesn't even show up :suicide:
Im getting high DPC latency on Windows 10 which causes crackiling in the audio any idea what should i do to fix that?
Latencymon suggests it could directx drivers causing it Or CPU throddling Problem now is that i have no idea how to reinstall or update Directx on Windows 10
what are good alternatives to Daemon Tools? I specifically need atleast .bin and .cue support Sorry for not reading the thread if it was asked before
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 latest on microsoft website CPU throttling thou is most likely a thermal issue so make sure your temps are gucci
They should be okay
So i decided to finally upgrade my gpu in my prebuilt asus, i got a gtx960 and got it installed and replaced the power supply with a 465w as the one in was only a 350w. So i got everything installed and it was working fine and after about 2 hour it just shuts off completely! Now when i try to turn it back on the light on the front just flicks on for half a second and the fans spin a little and then nothing. I dont think its a cpu or mobo issue as when i powered everything beside the gpu up with my old psu it turned on fine and now im writing from the same system with my old gpu and psu put back in. So i figured it must have been a psu issue but the thing is i returned the 465w, went out and bought a 430w and once i got it all hooked up it didnt even start up at all! just the little flicker and nothing. So then i just put in my old psu and now im using it fine again. I dont understand why those two psu's wouldnt work but my 2 year old one will recorded a quick vid of whats happening with the new card https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFoZIthP-8s
Probably the "430W" or "465W" you bought were crappy brands or duds that couldn't push that power while the old 350W could push 350W Buy a quality power supply from like Seasonic [editline]26th November 2015[/editline]
what are good alternatives to Daemon Tools? Work flying me to San Fran on Monday for the week. Thinking of picking up a gaming laptop. I saw Fry's has this http://www.frys.com/product/8602220 Which seems good for the price. It also has this which looks to be a bit worse but for same price? http://www.frys.com/product/8479648 Is there any improvements in the 2nd compared to the first? Would you guys say the first is a good buy?
they both won't let you down, being MSI, and they're not a horrible price, but note that the hard drive / ssd combo is a little small on both fronts and the value isn't the best compared to like this

For like 3 hours i was trying out gtaV and fallout4 without any problems, then bam it shuts off and does the flickering when i try it again. Idk why it would do that
Great. The first one would be a good gaming machine right?
It's a laptop, so unless you're looking for a combination gaming computer and electric bacon fryer, I wouldn't recommend playing Fallout 4 on Ultra with it but yeah, it would play games pretty well [editline]26th November 2015[/editline] My two R9 270s are behaving in a way that's completely unfamiliar to me. Namely, there's a delay between them (theoretically) receiving the "shut down" signal and them actually shutting down. The most obvious example of this happening is on system shutdown: I tell Windows to shut down, it turns off everything else, sends the DPMS OFF to the monitor, etc etc, the power light on my case and all my other fans power off... but I can still hear the fans on the 270s whizzing along for a minute before they finally shut down too. At the moment, my current working theory is that they're doing this to quickly cool down the cards before shutting off. Am I right? Are there any other things I need to be aware of when it does this, besides the probably-negligible amount of power draw from the fans going?
I think my cpu is overheating. I watched my temp using Core Temp and on idle it's around 60-70 degrees. When I was playing a couple games, it went up to the 80s. I just recently bought a new case that came with 3 fans, and all of them work. So I'm thinking it has something to do with the CPU fan. I read online that people were suggesting to apply new thermal paste to it or something. I haven't had this problem until I switched cases though, so I don't know why it's doing this. Suggestions?
lack of airflow(which i doubt) or poor airflow(wind tunnel is best) it lost some of its mounting pressure when you moved cases(which is most likely) or the fan plug came out(also likely) 80s isn't exactly killing it yet but its not exactly within safe regions yeah id just remount the heatsink and obviously re-apply new thermal paste http://www.amazon.com/Arctic-Silver-High-Density-Polysynthetic-Compound/dp/B000OGX5AM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1448580544&sr=8-1&keywords=arctic+silver+5 just a pea sized right in the middle of the cpu and put heatsink back on nice and tight and snug, make sure fan is plugged in should sort you out
I thought I had some extra thermal paste when I bought my cpu some time ago, but I guess I don't. Luckily my mom is going black friday shopping so I'll just have her pick me up something good.
This is the first time I'm posting here so I'm not so sure if this question had been answered before. So I'm planning on re-formatting my pc because I finally had it with Windows 10 being buggy as hell. It wouldn't remember preferences half of the time, it crashes constantly, and overall it feels much more buggier than windows 7. I always assumed it was because I updated windows 7 to windows 10 pro right after it was released. With all of that aside, I wrote down a list of all of the programs and games I plan to re-install and made a backup of my Documents folder (for game saves and whatnot). I also created a windows 10 image file on some usb I had lying around. Is there anything else I need to know/ do before re-formatting my hard drive?
Does anybody happen to know why the private/public option for networks isn't showing up in my PC Settings (the one in the Windows 8.1 start menu)? All it shows when I click on the network is stuff like my IP address and MAC address, no switches or anything, for both wireless and wired (ethernet) networks. I made sure my UAC settings were set to default.

Not really necessary
Hey guys sorry to ask again, but this laptop: http://www.frys.com/product/8602220 Does it go under another name or something? I can't find much about it online really and don't see it on MSI's website. When I googled it, I got this one: http://www.msi.com/product/notebook/GE62-2QF-Apache-Pro.html#hero-overview But it seems to have different names or something? The frys one is MSI GE62 Apache Pro 413 and the one on the MSI site says MSI GE62 2QF. Are they the same laptop, just different codes or something?

Great thanks dude. The storage seems pretty decent for me, I mean, 128 ssd is good for Windows and a small few apps I use a lot, and 1TB then for games basically. Only need to install the games I play so should be good. At least now I know I can look up videos on youtube of performance and know that's what I'll be getting
Ughhh Pro only Sorry about that
Well shit. Oh well, I actually just found a little workaround - just go to "Network" in the explorer, a little bar will pop out of the top saying that you can't find devices on a public network or something like that, click it and it'll ask if you want to set the current network to a private network.
I wanna buy a Raspberry Pi 2 to use as an emulation box/smart TV-ifier. Is this an actually smart thing to do? Just wanna play PS1 and earlier and access Netflix and others.
Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, the question didn't warrant its own thread but it's not specifically about hardware and software. If I'm looking to buy a new laptop, would I have better chances of getting a deal today or on Cyber Monday? And as an extension, where's the go to place to buy stuff like that? I usually use Amazon, but I don't know if there's another place to buy PC hardware / laptops that has better deals / wider selections. Thanks!
Is the 960 4GB (185 dollars) a worthwhile upgrade to a 660 2GB?
Archer C5 AC1200 Good router?
You get what you pay for. It is pretty budget but it doesn't look bad, reviews mark it as a solid router.
I really just need something that can do 802.11n on both bands and has a gigabit switch. Anything above that is a bonus. I don't need huge range - everything is within 20ft of the router. If you have better ideas for doing this I'm completely open.

Hey y'all, I have a question. I just bought 2 Wired 360 Controllers for my PC and I want to get the most out of them. As many people know, not all games support rumble (i.e. Left 4 Dead 1 & 2). I want to find workaround. Is there any program that can read the input from the controllers and be set to make them vibrate manually every time I squeeze the trigger (or any defined button)? You know, kind of in the same wheelhouse as Joy2Key or Xpadder?
newegg is getting buttfucked by traffic right now
And has been since like 11pm last night. Glad I did my shopping on Wednesday
