My dad just received a promo for a 4k Tv for a very good price and he asked me if it's good before buying and I just noticed it has a input lag of 26,5ms under various reviews, is it that bad as it seems? It's purpose is not primarily gaming but I wouldn't mind playing some games on it with a good picture quality.
Anyone know if there's a way to disable the LED lights on a laptop? They keep me up while I try to sleep. It's an Aspire V.
knock them off with a soldering iron
Hey guys, my friend is looking for a laptop to replace his current one. His current one has a lot of errors and crashes and the like, and at this point he'd rather buy a gaming laptop which he could also do all his schoolwork on. I recommended him this one (with the i7-5700HQ) and this one (with the GTX 960M, no SSD, and 16GB RAM).
I told him that they perform relatively the same, and also recommended that he could replace the HDD in either one with a Samsung 850 Evo SSD (which he agreed was worth doing for him). Which laptop is better, or will he not really notice a difference since the specs are very similar? Are there any laptops you'd recommend in a similar price range to those two that he can replace the HDD with an SSD?
GF's parent's machine refuses to sleep properly. When going to sleep, it just reboots instead.
We've torn our hair out trying to diagnose it, and I'm about a gnat's hair away from putting a 12ga shell through it and building them a new one.

What the fuck is Windows doing? These ports worked just fine not even a few minutes ago in Linux.

the 960m is significantly better than the 950m
Also the XPS 15 which has absolutely superb build quality in comparison with similar specs is going for like $1080

What's this outlook email I got?
In a few weeks, we will be making some changes to our email services that might impact your @•outlook•.com, @•hotmail, @•live, or @msn email account. Those changes will prevent your email from being delivered to the Windows Live Mail 2012 application you use.
In order to continue using Windows Live Mail 2012 to send and receive email for your account, you need to install the latest update published here.
If you use Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, we recommend that you switch to the built in Mail app in Windows to stay connected and get the latest feature updates on Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.
Windows Live Essentials 2009 and 2011 are not supported anymore, and you will need to update to Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 and use the Mail app, or use www.outlook.com. To learn more about the Mail app, please click here.

<outlook@communication.microsoft.com>
Every url is going to communication.microsoft.com with something along the lines of Key-6859401.C.rZT5.S.K4.-.nr4XXm at the end. Clicking any of those links just redirects me to something like http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/mail-app-tutorial
sounds like they might be actively disabling older MS mail clients somehow
I guess you used an old version of Windows Live Mail at some point?
The W8/10 mail app is terrible though.

Don't really remember using anything of the sort. I always used Thunderbird and the like when managing email. The @msn.com that it got sent to is only used for windows 10 and some stuff I don't particularly care about.
I did check out virustotal with it and everything came back clean. I also found something on virustotal regarding an ip https://www.virustotal.com/en-gb/ip-address/191.234.1.49/information/ . 65.55.34.218 is the email's ip.
Well that's a Microsoft IP and it resolves to a .hotmail.com address
Not sure where else to put this but I'm looking for a portable speaker that pretty much works like a mp3 player in which you just turn it on and it will shuffle through all the music on a SD card/thumb drive. It's a gift for my mom who doesn't want to deal with Bluetooth or any crap like that. She just wants to be able to bring it with her and be able to listen to it with no hassle
Alright, I'm a bit rusty on my classes there.
I currently have CL11 Avexir (2x4GB sticks) on my H81 chipset. I recently got a Z97 chipset with 4 memory slots, I was looking at getting 2 more 4GB sticks.
My question is, could I pair my current CL11 1600Mhz 2x4 sticks with a set of, for example CL9 1600Mhz sticks, Z97 board, future overclocking plans on either 4690k.
Not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but it seemed about right...
So I've been having this weird issue with Facebook where it claims that I have malware on my computer. As such, I can't post links or share statuses or pretty much do anything aside from make simple text posts or message people (again, just text, no pictures or videos).
I've run every virus scan under the sun and they've all come up completely clean.
Against my better judgement, I installed the antivirus Facebook was pushing (which I've found out is a free product from one of their business partners); the scan runs up to 91%, then it tells me I'm all good.
I try to post a link and get hit with the same error message nonsense.
Anyone know how to fix this short of just wiping Chrome clean of everything and starting fresh?
The error also pops up in different browsers and incognito mode, but I can post links and pics to my heart's content on my phone.
From what I've gathered, this seems to be a bug that usually works itself out in about 3 days; regardless, any help would obviously be greatly appreciated :v:
when will Miegakure be released? I cant up load the website.
My laptop suddenly refuses to connect or even work with wifi, when it was working fine before. It says my wifi function is off if I check it in the windows 10 settings, but device manager says my network adapter is working perfectly fine. BUT if I do troubleshooting in the network and sharing center it says a network cable is unplugged?
So my mom gave me her old laptop. She bought a new one because the old one, she says, "got a virus" (which I don't believe). It's got similar specs to my current laptop which is okay (can probably play old games pretty well, which is like 99% of my steam library anyways). I think I'll dualboot windows on it for games, and Arch Linux because I've never had arch linux and I always wanted to install it but didn't want to do it on my main computer cause of the hassle. However, last time I tried installing arch, i gave up. Is there a really good tutorial on installing arch? amd athlon, if it matters

The Arch Wiki beginners guide is excellent, in my opinion: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_guide
What causes a computer to only boot the second time you turn it on?
What causes a computer to only boot the second time you turn it on?
Of all the computers I've had this on, its been:
Dead CMOS battery (has to reset everything, but you would probably notice this).
Motherboard issue/BIOS bug (my Intel motherboard always turns on, turns off, then turns back on to successfully POST, not sure why). Usually its just a quirk rather than a major issue.
I wouldn't rule out a power supply issue either though.
I'm looking for a fan controller, but I know nothing about these things. Could someone give me a few pointers as to which ones are good or what to look out for with these things? Doesn't need to be something fancy, just a simple one that can control 4 fans.

IMHO they're a gimmick and there's no need to bother with them, if you need more fans than your motherboard has headers just get a splitter cable
My motherboard can handle 4 fans, but I want some easy one button control over them.

How can you tell if its a dead cmos battery?
How can you tell if its a dead cmos battery?
You would lose your clock and BIOS settings frequently on boot. Its usually something that is very obvious though as most computers complain when the clock resets so it probably isn't the problem.
In a program like Open Hardware Monitor, you can check the battery voltage on some motherboards. On mine its labelled VBat, and you want it at or above 3V.
My screen resolution is set at 1080p, whenever I play a game with resolution lower than that, the desktop icons will be automatically rearranged. This really irritates me. Anyone has a fix for this?
I found a possible solution on tenforums, at page 29, but I'm not sure what changing/deleting those files will do to my computer.

My MSi P67S-C43 did that for 4 years in 2 builds before I sold it.
