So some time in the near future, I'll be getting a large sum of money from an internship I'll be working at, and I plan on upgrading my brother's desktop GPU from a GT 720 (not a GTX 720) to either a GTX 970, 980, or 980 TI. Do I simply remove the current GPU, place in the new one, and update the new GPU drivers when I start up the PC?

My next question is, assuming the power supply can do this, is it better to keep the original GPU and add the new one alongside it? The desktop only has the one Nvidia GPU, would it improve game performance or affect overall performance?

Well my keyboard issue from yesterday returned with a vengeance. When I sat down this morning the spacebar wasn't working at all and a few random keys had decided they would only work when the keyboard was tilted. After a time they didn't work at all under any circumstance. After disassembling the keyboard and cleaning it out now only a few keys on the entire thing seem to work at all. Just about half the letters on the top row, the arrow keys, and the scroll/caps/num lock keys. I've just said fuck it, sent unicomp a support ticket, and broke out one of my spare keyboards.

EDIT: Oh wow I'm impressed, unicomp responded within not even 20 minutes of me submitting the ticket.

anyway usually there's a more generic heat-sink-less option for memory that's cheaper for the same speed but i guess for that specific speed and memory size in the UK there's not so please disregard my opinion

go on ebay and find used ones from 2013 or later, or look at your local supermarket. Supermarket special tablets are usually shitty in quality but cheap af.

all cards are gonna be roughly the same from any manufacturer but what generally matters most is the warranty

considering powercolor only offers a 2 year warranty unlike other manufacturer's 3-5, i'd be inclined to look somewhere else unless you're getting a really good deal

Looks like it had re-enabled itself. After turning it off my connection hasn't died yet as far as I remember, so we'll see if this is a permanent solution. Thanks.

Depends on what you do. I only play video games so I don't really need more than 8. Only time I ever start running low on memory is when an application has a problem and starts running away with all my ram plus inflating my page file to 15+ gb (fallout 4 has done this to me a couple of times, jdownloader has too, and msi afterburner). But even in those situations, more ram wouldn't help, it would still overflow into the pagefile eventually anyway, it just takes a bit longer.

If you have to ask that question, wouldn't it be better to ask for alternatives? Other than qbittorrent there is also Transmission which has a very minimal UI compared to μTorrent and qbittorrent. (Basically, everything you need to torrent and not much more)

So the fans on my R9 380 don't spin. I know about the driver thing and I'm running 15.12, the latest. And I know the fans aren't supposed to spin until the GPU hits 60c. But the problem is once it hits 60c, they don't come on, and the temperature just climbs and climbs, and the fans will NEVER come on.

So I use MSI Afterburner instead. It seems to work fine with this, and the fans hit the levels I set. But for some reason when not under load, the fans will stop spinning, then start spinning, then stop, then start, then stop, then start...

Does your card have a BIOS update from the manufacturer? Just in case its a weird one off bug there.

Hi all. I have another question. I'm trying to use .mkv files with Sony Vegas Pro 13 and I know that these files are incompatible. I've looked all over the internet for suitable solutions and have come up with nothing helpful. Any ideas what I can do?
