Use VLC to convert them?
Use VLC to convert them?
When I do that, the audio is gone or the video becomes really jittery in Vegas. Are there particular settings which work?
Hi all. I have another question. I'm trying to use .mkv files with Sony Vegas Pro 13 and I know that these files are incompatible. I've looked all over the internet for suitable solutions and have come up with nothing helpful. Any ideas what I can do?
Handbrake can be used to convert them to whatever format you want to put into Vegas
Handbrake can be used to convert them to whatever format you want to put into Vegas
Wow I totally forgot about Handbrake. Worked perfectly! Thanks.
I remember finding this image like that causes RAM usage to go up considerably (went up 400-500mb to me, I remember other people saying it went up by 1gb). It kind of looked like a colorful QR code, I'm googling everywhere but I can't find it. Does anyone have it/know about it? [editline]20th December 2015[/editline] Might've actually been high cpu usage instead of high ram usage but either way
-snip- false alarm, it just goes really slowly
Is it a bad idea to use Windows 10's Reset to clear an SSD it's installed on?
Does your card have a BIOS update from the manufacturer? Just in case its a weird one off bug there.
Nope. It's the Sapphire R9 380 Nitro
Whats a good way to clean up a computer? My parents keep ruining their computer by downloading viruses or something and I'm not sure how to fix it.
Whats a good way to clean up a computer? My parents keep ruining their computer by downloading viruses or something and I'm not sure how to fix it.
Best and most sure fire way is to wipe the drive, and start all over. Especially if it was a particularly nasty infection.
If you don't want to wipe the computer, you can try installing free anti-virus programs like MalwareBytes, Avast, Super-Anti Spyware, etc. and have them all scan the computer repeatedly. This person I know paid me to clean out all of the viruses on their laptop, ended up running multiple scans which picked up more and more viruses, but eventually it was 100% clean and running fine.
Might want to get one of those bootable scanners too. [editline]20th December 2015[/editline] Speaking of bootables, Hiren's hasn't been updated in like 3 years. What bootable CD do the cool kids use these days?

[t]http://catpanic.eu/upl/2015-12-20_21-43-26.png[/t] Why is DA still present in the taskbar when it isn't under my settings? [t]http://catpanic.eu/upl/2015-12-20_21-45-36.png[/t] And why are there so many of them? How do I get rid of them?
not sure if this is a "quick" question, but does anyone know what's happened to my SSD? it's a Kingston 120gb V300 other specs of the machine ASUS Z97-P motherboard Intel Core i5 4460 3.2 ghz GeForce GTX660 with 4gb video memory 16 gb of 1600 mhz RAM Corsair VS650 power supply Windows 8.1 (formerly, RIP) i bought it last thursday for my new PC i put together, and it completely messed up said new PC today here's the best i can do to describe the issue:
it all started when i put an additional 1 Tb regular hard drive into the machine; i was sure the drive was empty, but it apparently had Vista and some files from my old PC on it. something about the SSD's file system probably went haywire in the startup process, i don't know? first it couldn't start Windows, then i couldn't re-install Windows on it, now BIOS doesn't even read the damn thing anymore -after installing the 1 Tb drive, shortly after starting and getting to the desktop Win 8.1 froze up. i could move the mouse but everything else was jammed in place -when i restarted it tried to launch Vista from the new drive, which led to a bluescreen because the Vista on that drive is apparently damaged. -changing boot priority didn't work, it simply refused to boot from the SSD's Win8.1. black screen for a while, then back to BIOS. -S.M.A.R.T started giving me crap about how the SSD is broken and needs to be replaced. -i booted from the W8.1 CD to see if there was any way to completely wipe the drive there (for a clean Win reinstall), but of course there wasn't. -installation and OS repair tools obviously didn't help. -i thought i'd try to reinstall Win8.1 and see if that helps. in the middle of the installation process the PC restarted once, as is sort of expected, but when it came back it had forgotten everything about the installation and threw me back to the start. -tried installing Win8.1 again, the installer got stuck at "installing updates" the icing on the cake is that BIOS doesn't even see the SSD anymore.
obviously, i'm a total knows-fuck-all when it comes to hard drive problems like this. there's a good chance that i messed up something in the middle of all this myself
If you want people not to be able to recover data from your SSD do you have to wipe the files over multiple times or is it not necessary with SSDs?
I'll just leave this thing here: https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1498247
If you want people not to be able to recover data from your SSD do you have to wipe the files over multiple times or is it not necessary with SSDs?
No, SSD's work completely different from standard HDDs so it doesn't quite work like that. Instead, you want to use the "ATA Secure Erase" function built into SSD's, which effectively tells the SSD controller to zero everything out. As your computer doesn't actually fully control where data is written on an SSD, simply writing zeros may not actually wipe everything. A lot of manufacturers have utilities that can do this.

It was last updated in May!
Are the Geforce experience Optimization settings trustable?
How can I configure DD-WRT to use a router as repeater? At home we've got two routers: our ISP supplied Technicolor TC7200 in the living room, and our old Linksys WRT320N running DD-WRT v24-sp2. [T]http://i.imgur.com/Drv8If1.png[/T] As you can see here, I've got both routers broadcasting individually, but to get the best coverage at all times I want to merge then into one SSID without having to switch networks.
Are the Geforce experience Optimization settings trustable?
Overall, yes because they have a very good general idea of what you setup can run. On a per-game basis, not really. It doesn't factor in your CPU whatsoever, and 99% of the time it has conservative estimations on how high you can actually run games. For example, Metro 2033/Last Light Redux was supposed to "barely run" on my PC, but I was able to just change the regular settings around to higher than what GeForce said I should and I run solid 60+ FPS. Generally, it's better to look at the minimum/recommended specs and base your settings off how your rig is compared to those. EDIT: So my family just got McAfee whereas we previously had Norton. Norton used to let me exclude any file or folder from being scanned, but McAfee refuses to do so if the location requires admin permission. I'm trying to exclude my Steam and Origin/Origin Games folders because those are pretty much the largest parts of my drive and I'm 100% they'll be safe. Is there a workaround for this?
I guess I shouldn't make a thread about this, but it's regarding my headset sound problem so hopefully this is the right place. So I have a pair of SteelSeries Siberia V2's, and today they fell from where they rest onto the ground. My floor is tile so, it took a hit. When I put them back on, the sound was muffled. Tested them on my laptop and phone, same thing. Are they done for? Never had headphones break, and these are my first pair of headsets, so it'll suck because I paid a lot for them..
So I just booted one of my laptops back into Windows, for the first time in months (though I haven't been using it a lot in general). And it took minutes. Apparently, SSD I/O has become extremely slow. Subsequent boots went faster (and I had to reboot several times to get it usable enough to even go to the desktop), still, this is what it looked like on this boot: On my Linux install on the same drive, there are no such issues whatsoever. Strangely enough, it's usable now (I'm posting from it), but this still concerns me. What happened here?
Okay, I should have figured that out myself... Never seen it happen before, I guess.
Does Samsung's SSD rapid mode stuff just use the ram as a ramdisk? Is there any point in using it?
so i don't know if it's strictly ut2004 but when i play ut2004 i have drops of fps that end up making me play at 25-40 fps. it's UT2004! i play ut3 with double the amount of bots at highest settings and get constant 60+fps, whereas ut2004, even on lowest settings i have terrible framerate dips (Although when staring at a wall I get 80+fps which is fine but expected) my specs should be able to handle 2k4 just fine... (and yes my gtx 560 is set to be used for games) [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] that's using the opengl renderer, the dx9 renderer flat out doesn't work
OS: Windows NT 6.2 (Build: 9200) CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 3395 MHz with 2047MB RAM Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 (6143) LockRect failed: D3DERR_DEVICELOST History: UD3DRenderDevice::ReadPixels <- UD3DRenderDevice::Present <- UGameEngine::Draw <- UWindowsViewport::Repaint <- UWindowsClient::Tick <- ClientTick <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level Untitled <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 10910191 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free
[editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] FIXED, it now runs in d3d instead of opengl. turns out 'reduce mouse lag' option fucks up windows 10 window stuff, turned off that option by changing
[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] AdapterNumber=-1 ReduceMouseLag=True
to
[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] AdapterNumber=-1 ReduceMouseLag=False

Does Samsung's SSD rapid mode stuff just use the ram as a ramdisk? Is there any point in using it?
I've dug into the topic before, generally you don't need RAPID mode unless you have enough RAM that you're willing to give up some of it, and/or if you're using a SATA 2 connection. Supposedly, RAPID mode doesn't give the same performance boost when on SATA 3, so generally if you have +16GB RAM and aren't using SATA 3, then it's worth the RAM usage.
I remembered i used to have a copy of hiren's boot cd lying around and i was looking for a modern equivalent and found tons of them, but they all look like outdated junk. Whats the up to date flash drive equivalent?
