What's the best possible codec to use when recording gameplay videos? I tried using the Lagarith Lossless codec, but it seems kind of weird, considering it artifacts all over the place. (although that might be from a webM conversion, but I doubt it)
So my BFs pc started BSODing randomly since yesterday so I decided to check the ram with memcheck and it's giving me about 30 errors on tests 6 through 8, does this warrant further investigation of each ram stick
Oh and test 9 now
any idea how to provide power to this connector without just poking the appropriate wire in the holes

if your wondering its a nixie clock, i contacted the seller but being christmas they might not be that quick to reply

All I can think of is "What do?"
This just seems to have started randomly some time ago. First it didn't really affect me as much, but now things seems to start crashing more and more frequently

You're a life saver for the link to how to fix the issue, I have the same issue and didn't guess that it was a driver (turns out mine is xHCIPort.sys, which is the USB Hub itself). I can;t find a driver update, but it does seem like the driver is installed incorrectly, so hopefulyl this fixes my issue.

In 5 - 10 years when some unfortunate soul looks for help with this problem. Instead of getting nothing but "nevermind, fixed" solutions he'll get a proper solution (or at least a link to a proper one)
surprised the ebay seller got back to me, need to get a barrel jack from maplin tomorrow or scavenge one from a old modem or something but bodged it for now so i could set the time/date and check it worked

So my BSOD troubles are getting worse, but I think I've found the source: Photoshop CC 2015. No matter what programs I'm running, within 2 minutes of opening Photoshop I get a "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE" BSOD, but I'm not sure how Photoshop is causing it. Most searches say it's a RAM issue, but there is no concise answer.
I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I currently have an A10 5800k and I was wondering how well it would perform with a Radeon 6950 (a mate's offering to give it to me). I know it would probably bottle neck but I'd really like a separate GPU.
Any advice is welcome, but keep in mind I'm a novice when it comes to building computers.
What is the best way to make a common folder between two PC's? Connecting them with a cable is out of the question, and the setup is as follows: Desktop connected to a router directly and a laptop connected to the same router via Wi-Fi. I know there's dropbox, but I'd prefer an offline solution. Never had more than one PC, so I don't know anything on the topic of home networks.

Friend just said I'd get a better FPS if I upgrade my motherboard to one that has PCI 3.0, even if I don't change anything else. Is that true?

You're probably not going to see any significant bottlenecking in most games. What's your PSU (model name, please)?
Ok this is a weird one. Yesterday I've got an Reloop RM-1000 PRO mixer gifted and it was so much fun to use, I even had many plans with it, but not too long ago all the outputs started doing that 50hz buzz sound so I've quickly turned it off. After 10 minutes or so I gave it another go, still buzzing. I've tried moving all the connections and for a while it stopped doing that buzz thing but it came back later and shortly after the mixer just shut itself off.
I can't find any manual online and I've took it apart but can't find any fuse or anything that could've caused it to stop working. I'm thinking it's the transformer inside the mixer that broke but I can't tell from looking at it and I don't feel save probing around 230V to see if it still works or not.
Any ideas on what I should do now? Even knowing how many volts the transformer outputs would be helpful enough.
[editline]26th December 2015[/editline]
Here's how it looks inside if that helps, in the meantime I try to get the power switch out and see if there's any fuse

those two loose wires are from the light plug on the front that I accidentally ripped of while trying to move cables.
huge edit:
I've played around and found out that 12V are correct, yet I don't know how many amps and the only powersuply that I have with 12v is 2A. Any ideas looking at the video how many amps might be needed, or does this show that something is wrong inside? leaving the wire connected won't do anything, only if it sparks.

I just realised it probably isn't enough..

You would need a 2X molex to 6-pin PCI-E adapter to run the card at all, assuming the PSU isn't basically an IED.
Personally I wouldn't risk a 6950 on that PSU, it's a totally passable card (I'm using one in my rig). The power output on those 12V rails is also pretty paltry (and thus it's probably a stretch to call that a 420W PSU at all), especially compared to the 5V, which could mean it's a much older design than its 2010 release date (according to the OEM) would suggest. Honestly, while it may be enough for a 6950, I really would just put away some $50 for a passable PSU instead. You're risking your whole rig.
so the family got me a GTX 960 for christmas
problem is, it requires a power cable into it or some shit and I don't know how to install that. I've done a lot of googling. can someone link me a article on a tut. or explain?

The actual slot the card goes into can only supply 75 watts of power. That's not enough for most graphics cards, so they draw extra power directly from the computer's power supply. The 960 needs up to 120W of power - not too much, but more than the slot can provide.
If it's a 960, the port probably looks like this, and accepts a cable that looks like this. It's possible for it to have an eight-pin plug instead of this six-pin one, but it's probably a six-pin.
If your machine currently has a graphics card that you're swapping out, you can probably just unplug the current one and use that cable. Otherwise, you'll probably have on coming out of the power supply (some power supplies use cables that unplug from both ends, others are fixed at the PSU but removable at the other end).
Edit:
Actually, first thing to do is to make sure your power supply can actually handle it, without frying. Is this a prebuilt machine, or custom? What PSU and CPU does it have?

My current one doesn't require extra power, it's a MSI Radeon HD 7770. My main issue is I got this PC prebuilt as a gift two years ago, and I don't know where any of the other cords are.
edit: My CPU (at least I think the one that matters, I have no idea) is a AMD FX-6300 Six core processor and Ill have to manually check the PSU I presume.

I think as long as your PSU is 300W, it should be able to handle the load. The only question is if it has any PCIe power outputs. Do you see any ports on the PSU, on the inside of the machine? Are there any cables at all coming out of the PSU that aren't plugged into anything?

Ignore the dirty see through case; I'm thinking that it can't handle it because I see the "max wattage" at 103W, but then I see 350 Watts. I'm confused here, but I have no idea how power supplies work.
Ignore the dirty see through case; I'm thinking that it can't handle it because I see the "max wattage" at 103W, but then I see 350 Watts. I'm confused here, but I have no idea how power supplies work.
That 103W is for the 3.3V and 5V rails combined. Most stuff pulls on the 12V rail, which is rated for 264W (12V * 22A), and the PSU itself is rated for 350W.
If your PSU maxed out at 103W, it would already be fried. Your CPU and old GPU total up to 175W.
So the only problem is figuring out if you actually have some cables you can use. Crack the case open, see if there's anything coming out of the PSU that isn't plugged into anything (even a molex that can be adapted to 6-pin), or if there are open ports on the PSU.

Finally back with some info, I had to go grab something. Okay, so from the looks of it, theres no more slots left on my PSU, and the wires that are unused seem to be tied up in a little bundle in a separate cubby in the case. Cable ties. ugh. But I do see some wires that look like what you said were a molex. I have no idea of the length of these cables however.
Jumping from a 965 Black to a i5-6600 I should see a stupid amount of performance gains right? 45nm to 14nm; 125W to 65W; still at 4 cores, and similar speeds (3.4 to 3.3).
Not interested in i7's or OC

I can get a new power supply, what one would you recommend for what I need?
I'm having a pretty strange issue, I just upgraded my GTX460 to a R7 370 and all of a sudden my monitor seems to have kind of a curved dark edge. The best way I can describe it is like a slight pincushion distortion on a CRT.
I've tried fiddling with the newest driver version(15.12), and the previous version just in-case that was the problem. The positioning and size menu seems to be of no help. Here's a bit more information if it helps:
Graphics Card: MSI AMD R7 370
Driver Version: 5.12
Monitor: Acer G215H; 1920x1080 @ 60Hz (I use DVI)
I feel like I'm missing something obvious but this is my first AMD card and I'm pretty unfamiliar with Crimson. Any help is appreciated :)
Here's a link to an image I made of what the screen looks like: http://i.imgur.com/m1SRVfv.jpg

Give me a link to an NZ computer store, and I'll find you something suitable when I'm on my computer.
