MSE is really good, since it doesn't require you to do stupid shit like renewing your free subscription every half year. Also it doesn't have annoying ads.

Doesn't it have bad detection rates compared to other AVs though?

I wasn't aware it was worse now a days, but then again I never get viruses, so I can't tell

But how would you know? :v:
Jk of course, common sense + most AVs are probably enough to keep most people safe really.
I'm getting this on pcpartpicker
The Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V).
?

This. I just tried running mbam for shits and giggles. Nothing came up.
So I've become really hesitant to buy the 970. I've been looking into AMD cards currently and the 290x is $30 cheaper then the strix 970 and it works way better at 4k while being full 4GB, though AMD is also going to probably announce the 300 series by the end of the month, and I want to see what the pricing on the 380-390x will be compared to there performance (which leaks / speculation put the 390x on about 70-80% faster then the 290x and the 380x at about 65%)
Anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of both AMD and NVIDIA (other than "muh 4gb" and spaceheater / electric bill puns) and how some of the current cards (280x, 290x) function (because its pretty likely that the 300 series will also have the same issues) against NVIDIA cards? I don't have very much money to throw around so I cant buy both a 970 and a 290x to see exactly how they function against eachother / how supported the drivers are etc.
So you're playing at 4k? A single one of either of those cards won't provide a good experience at 4k. But yes, obviously the 290x provides a better experience at high resolutions. They do take a good bit of power though. With the 3xx series coming out, they use HBM instead of GDDR, which should be fantastic for 4k.
Doesn't it have bad detection rates compared to other AVs though?
Detection rates are hard to compare.
There are three types of malware - the stuff every AV will find, the stuff some AV will find, and the stuff no AV will find. Most comparisons use only the first two, but in actuality, malware that every AV can find isn't used much, and the biggest threat it the stuff no AV will find without updates specifically to look for it.
The other number that nobody tests is the false positive rate - how many things it picks up as malware that isn't malware. MSE isn't perfect in this regard (certain warez tools set it off, for obvious reasons), but it's actually much better than some AVs that claim a 99% detection rate. If you don't see why this is important, think about a hypothetical AV that simply flags every single file as infected. That would get a 100% hit rate, but also a 100% false positive rate.
MSE, plus MalwareBytes, is the antivirus I use. It's not perfect, but I practice defense in depth. I'm protected by several layers of security, and even if every layer lets 25% through, four layers of that gets you to 99% protection, and nine layers to 99.999% safety.

Because you'll want to use 1.5v or below RAM, that Kingston is 1.65. When searching for RAM just pull the slider down to 1.5

Went to a bounch of webites and they all say that its 1.5V RAM, even on pcpartpicker.

should I be worried if this pops up when connecting to my gateway? never seen it before, I assume I should be safe as it's on my LAN?
What's a good program for detecting duplicate images? Not identical dupes, stuff that does fuzzy comparisons on the actual image, so if it's been downscaled or watermarked it can still find it.
I used to use GQView for this, but that's no longer in active development and was kind of clunky. Geeqie is an active fork, but doesn't seem available for Windows/Cygwin, and I can't be assed to copy all these things over to my BSD box just to find duplicates.
I figure there's probably something better out there, I just can't find it because everything on google's focused on bit-for-bit duplicates.

I personally use MBAM + IObit's thing.
IObit puts up the scary warning icon on its tray indicator when it hasn't been updated or hasn't scanned within the past 30 seconds but does a pretty good job stopping shit from modifying startup entries without permission and does a pretty OK job detecting the rare instances of malware I actually catch.
I realize it ain't great though, so I occasionally run MBAM and tell it to scan everything for everything when I know I'm not going to be home all day.

I still despise IObit and it's borderline malware software packages.

someone mentioned a dislike for IObit last time i mentioned them too and I still don't get it
the only problems i've noticed are that they're overly eager to bring their friends along and their driver manager program sucks serious ass at its job (as do all driver manager programs). smart defrag remains tied with defraggler in my eyes as the all time best NTFS defragger, and ASC in one click does a lot of things that i could probably do myself but i'm too fucking lazy to do (like go clear out the temp directories)

Picasa is the best I've got, lemme know if you find something better.
Are these temperatures normal?
I am playing Watchdogs, settings maxed out @ 1080.

Also what is Temp1 and Temp2?
It's FX 8350 and GTX 970 Strix btw.
Nvidia cards like to run super warm, wouldn't worry too much about the GTX at 70C, just make sure it's all aired out properly.
I'd investigate the CPU though, assuming that's the temp1 sensor.
Also speedfan has never worked very accurately for me on modern hardware, so I'd try out speccy to double-check those temps if you're unsure.

Pretty interesting, I ran Speccy and SpeedFan at same time.
Speccy says:
Average temp: 43 deg.
Then each core temp: 43 Deg.
While SpeedFan Says:
52 Deg.
and 43 Deg for Core too.
Btw it's brand new CPU and heatsink, so it shouldnt' really malfunction I think?
Anyone know of a way to "externalise" a GPU, ie get the PICe outside of the case, I have a little server which I can a mini case was thinking when I travel I can pop a GPU out of my SLI and take it with me, only issue holding me back is it doesnt fit inside the case.

AMD CPUs always run pretty hot. What's your heatsink?

It's stock, and stock fan.

Btw what can cause this?

When I am in some game, 2nd monitor starts giving/flickering those horizontal lines.

is it possible(on certain hardware, which a custom server is most likely not)? yes
is it worth it? god no
You can always get a flex riser and do it that way, if you hate yourself.

You're gonna want to upgrade to an aftermarket heatsink, unless you keep your room pretty cold.
I have a load of .ogg files that I need to convert to .wavs
I wouldn't just want to download some random throwaway program. Isn't there anything made by a widely known company?
[editline]edit[/editline]
Adobe media encoder could've been the perfect thing... if it supported ogg.

Max temp for the GTX 970 is 98C.
A safe temp for your CPU would be about 60C (you're currently at 44C), but you should be OK up to 70C unless you run the CPU 24/7 at those temps.
Temp1/2 could be anything. Usually the mobo/chipset
I'd say your temps look perfectly normal

Refresh rate maybe? I could be wrong
This pink tint has started showing up on certain shades of blue, what is this? My GPU is a 7900GTX 512MB.
Sorry for the big picture, imgbox only allows uploads directly from the camera app so I can't resize

use [t] [/t] tags
as for the color your card is probably going out or just overheating
