How do I get rid of the fucking "You just plugged a device into the audio jack" bubble every time I plug or unplug something? This thing is obnoxious because it never seems to want to go away
The main difference between desktop i5s and i7s is that i7s are capable of hyperthreading, which simulates having twice the number of physical cores (a four-core thread with hyperthreading enabled will have eight threads). For gaming, hyperthreading isn't necessary except in an extremely small and rare handful of cases (although with the advent of DirectX 12 and its optimizations for multithreaded software, this may change in the future). Hyperthreading really shines when it comes to using video editing software or rendering 3D models. That being said, a 2600K is almost just as viable and relevant as a 4790K at this point in time because upgrading your CPU isn't that important compared to upgrading something like a graphics card. Those old Sandy Bridge CPUs are known for running a bit cooler than current day processors too, so that's also a nice bonus.
Well the i7 wasn't my idea, my dad kept going on how he wanted the best, I was like sure if you want to spend the money.
Ok continuing from my post on page one, I got a router now, loading webpages and streaming videos is all fine and dandy now while my brother and I are both on but there's still the problem in games where ping will be perfectly normal for like 1 or 2 minutes at a time and then spike up to like 300 for a second and quickly go back down. It constantly happens every few minutes, and as usual, problem doesn't occur when one of our computers is not connected to the internet.
mATX board with integrated quadcore Celeron J1900 for hosting a small Source server/home NAS/steam in home streaming reciever, yes or no?
mATX board with integrated quadcore Celeron J1900 for hosting a small Source server/home NAS/steam in home streaming reciever, yes or no?
I'm planning on using an ITX board with integrated J1900 for a router/NAS, so you should be good for those last two. Possibly on that first one.
I've got three harddrives salvaged from laptops that may be infected. How do I format the harddrive without risking it infecting my computer?
I've got three harddrives salvaged from laptops that may be infected. So the icons on my desktop occasionally flash to the default file icon like what happens when I just installed a new program. It's really just a split-second thing and it doesn't get in the way at all, but does it mean anything? Can I just ignore it?
Ok so this is really fucking stupid and I know I should just use the iGPU on my i5, but would it be possible to run a 9500 gt and a 970 gtx at the same time?
Ok so this is really fucking stupid and I know I should just use the iGPU on my i5, but would it be possible to run a 9500 gt and a 970 gtx at the same time?
Possible? Yes. How many monitors are you trying to run?
Possible? Yes. How many monitors are you trying to run?
Two. One @1080 and One @900. Yeah....
Two. One @1080 and One @900. Yeah....
Then plug them both into the 970?

It usually happens if that new program is associating itself with a certain filetype, like Honeyview and image files or VLC and media files.

I know QuickTime has one of those, and iTunes probably does as well.
Hello. I wanted to ask, my monitor has been started to have a... backlight flicker? It's a strange sort of flickering that reminds me of an old CRT. It may just be me actually noticing it for the first time since I have started reading books so I've been off my computer for more than 20 hours at a time. Or maybe it's because the monitor wasn't turned on in a long time; but the flickering hasn't gone away. Recent issues I have been having that may be related to this: PSU has been making occasional annoying noises.(failing PSU?) Fan on GPU has been making a bit of of scratching/tapping noise that requires me to increase fan speed temporarily to fix when it comes up to make it dissipate. I upgraded to a DVI cord, but that was a month ago. I got new speakers, also, that sit next to my monitor. Maybe it's these?? It might just be the monitor itself, it's some cheapo 1080p 60herts off-brand (AOC) monitor I've had for a few years, but I never had this problem before. Drivers are up to date, and here's something I found while randomly browsing reddit that makes the flickering very noticeable. http://i.imgur.com/MwWdcxT.jpg It's like, a flickering in brightness levels that gets particularly noticeable with contrasted dark-bright areas. Videocard is a 750ti, temps are all a stable 28-30C. As you can probably tell, I am completely inexperienced with hardware and don't know how to fix or build computers. If this is deserving of it's own seperate thread, tell me, and I'll make it.

Not just one particular filetype.
Well it's literally all of the programs on the desktop at once. It's still fine, shouldn't cause any problems whatsoever.
I'm thinking of acquiring an older high end gaming PC to serve as a secondary desktop for playing older games and for use a a guest computer. What do you guys think? It would have something like a 9800gt, Core2 Quad or AMD Athlon and 4 to 8gb of DDR2 running Windows 7.
So I'm looking to buy a new cooler for my AMD FX8350 as the stock cooler sounds like a jet sometimes. Now I was wondering, since I got the CM Silencio 550 case and almost no cooler will fit, would I be better off lookin for a low-profile cooler or just a better case with better airflow?

As long as you have enough clearance with your RAM, you should buy a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. I don't think you need a new case.

A lot of people recommend that cooler, but would it hurt to install it in my case?

If you can't, or you have perilous need for those sound-dampening pads, then you'll have to pick a smaller cooler like a Cooler Master Hyper TX3.
I'll try to remove the padding then, I only really need it for the CPU but I guess that problem will be solved by a new cooler. Thank you :)
I'm going to place a order for some new parts this weekend but I have a few small questions: 1: Thermal paste, will pretty much anything from here be good? 2: Case fans, should I get more? I have 2 already and I have no idea if I need more. 3: Led fans, If I do need more and I get ones with lights would the lights always be on?
It looks like I can just remove the sound padding, which will probably be my best shot. I forgot to mention that my case gets quite warm since I placed it under my desk, which was another reason I thought of buying a new one. The Silencio 550 only supports three case fans, one at the back and two in the front. Maybe a new CPU cooler and case fans will fix that?
Any suggestion how to record Desktop screen? I tried using Camtasia but lag is fucking terrible, you can see windows barely dragging instead of being smooth.
Any suggestion how to record Desktop screen? I tried using Camtasia but lag is fucking terrible, you can see windows barely dragging instead of being smooth.
Open Broadcast Software
So my gtx 570 died i think, it gives this grsphical problem [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/v8hHtt9.jpg[/IMG_thumb] It also freezes and i hear a device shutting. I have to restart it but still it does this. What should i buy? Cheap preferably.

Get two fans for the front and orient them so they're intaking cool air, and set the one fan at the back to exhaust hot air. Your new CPU cooler should help the air flow through your case easier and reduce its overall temperature.
