I have a server with a LGA 1366 socket. I want to upgrade the processor to one with the best single core performance (for SRCDS). What processor would be best for this upgrade, and is the LGA 1366 socket too outdated? If so, should I look into a new motherboard?
What's the current CPU in it now?
Xeon E5506
an intel i7 920 would be small upgrade but thats only if you're running multiple instances of SRCDS
Yeah, I really just run one at a time except for the occasional test server. So do you think the socket is too out of date? I'd like a Xeon E3-1285 or a E3-1271 optimally.
So I have this 970 (Which I love but bla bla 3.5 whatever) But I have it and it's too late now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487076 And I've been thinking of SLI, now that I have cash. This 970 card is on sale http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487075&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=IGNEFL021715&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL021715&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL021715-_-EMC-021715-Index-_-DesktopGraphicsCards-_-14487075-S1A2D Would they be compatible together? The slightly cheaper one has less of a core and boost clock. I've never done a dual card system/SLI so I'm not sure if I need the same exact cards or what.

You can easily match the clock speeds (probably even overclock both further than the factory) with EVGA PrecisionX
The higher clocked one is literally the same card, just with a factory overclock. Still wondering though would they work together straight out of the box?
Okay seems easy enough. Still wondering though would they work together straight out of the box?
Yeah, clocks don't even need to match anymore with SLI. Just same card/amount of vRAM.
Can someone recommend me a good 2tb hard drive for under $120? I need two for my server that I should be getting soon. 5400, 5900 rpm doesn't matter. Needs to be good for constant (more realistically near constant) operation. If a larger capacity it's under $160 that would probably be preferable.
Has anyone using Firefox had any trouble recently with playing YouTube videos in 480p or 1080p? For some unexplained reason the only options are 360p and 720p. From what I've found it's because of the HTML5 player but I thought I was already using that before this started happening.
I was thinking about getting another harddrive, any recommendations for one that can hold at least 2TB and costs around 100 - 150Euro/USD? Currently I have a 2TB Hitachi Deskstar 7k2000 that I am very content with, with the exception of the storage, which is now dwindling fast.

In short, I'm getting tired of firefox and want to use chrome more, but I really like the title bar I have on firefox and can't seem to find a way to have one in chrome. Anyway to get a title bar above the tabs in chrome?
I have two questions, is there a noticeable difference between the i7 920 and the newer Haswell i7s in terms of performance? If I were to upgrade my computer from the older i7 950 that I have to a newer i7, would I experience some performance boost considering I have an SSD installed with Windows 8? Is this a question for the graphs at TomsHardware? Also, any USB 3.0 flash sticks y'all recommend that are 128GB and up? Speed is a big necessity and SanDisk hasn't been the best at that (at least the DataTraveler III hasn't).

It's rated as one of the fastest 3.0 flash drives, and a 128gb is only 80 bucks. But I would recommend a USB SSD like Kiwi said if you've got the cash.
If someone was wanting to practice using excel 2010 without having to pay a load of money for it, would the openoffice/libreoffice version be reasonable to use?
If someone was wanting to practice using excel 2010 without having to pay a load of money for it, would the openoffice/libreoffice version be reasonable to use?
Sort of. You would get the base idea of how a feature worked, but you would be learning how to do it in LibreOffice. They are just enough different that you'll probably have to use some intuition when using Excel, as its not a 100% clone. And that's ribbon interface aside.
I got two Toshiba 2TB drives for $110 combined, I think checking slickdeals for deals is probably the best options when it comes to random hard drives
I've had some pretty bad experiences with Toshiba desktop drives, and reviews really aren't great on most of their models. Right now I'm thinking a pair of these or these, but I'm going to shop around to see if I can find any WD RE series with 5 year warranties opposed to the 3. But I don't think the RE series comes with data recovery services like the Seagate does.

Anyway to get a title bar above the tabs in chrome?
Chrome doesn't allow extensions to do as much to the browser as Firefox does, so unfortunately there's no way to get a title bar in Chrome (short of switching to Linux and configuring your window manager to force its own window decorations onto Chrome)
Yep HTML5 in action. It was recently a beta option for Firefox but now it's stuck there. [editline]19th February 2015[/editline] Sadly on Chrome I can't actually view 1440p or 4K content like I could on Firefox before the HTML5 switch over. Sucks.
So the only fix is to switch to Chrome then? I can deal with that.
So I was a dumbass and bought an Intel Centrino 1030 card from eBay and didn't notice the part of the ad where it says that it only works with Lenovo and HP laptops. Any chance I can trick it into working with my ECS Mini-ITX motherboard?
I mean, if you want a free Wireless-N single band adapter, I have some spare miniPCIe ones lying around...

It probably just means its an OEM part meant for a particular line but will work with any PC as long as it supports mini-PCIe. Because the Centrino 1030 is not in any way specific to HP/Lenovo. I mean, you can buy OEM Apple Airport cards and put them in PCs. They will work as long as there are drivers.

So I assume there's some weird device IDs or firmware on them for some bizarre reason. Device manager just comes up with a generic code 10 error. Didn't even work after I installed the Intel drivers.
I mean, if you want a free Wireless-N single band adapter, I have some spare miniPCIe ones lying around...
Thanks for the offer, though I was trying to get one with Bluetooth as well. It's going into the PC that I'm eventually installing in my car, so Bluetooth is pretty important.

Picked up my new pc today (chose the parts got them to build it) it came with a disc of Trend Micro AV reluctant to install it seeing as it's subscription based. What is a good free antivirus or do i not need one now in windows 8.1 with windows defender?
I have a 200 dollar budget for a new GPU, but I'm not sure what to do with it. I'm thinking about the GTX 960 or the R9 280 (the 280x is out due to its power requirements). Any suggestions? I'm willing to exceed 200, but not by very much at all.
A 960 is pretty much a very good 1080p card. What's your PSU and your other specs like?
I'm running an Antec Neo Eco 520c PSU, a Core i3 4130, and 4GB of RAM (will be buying more) with the current GTX 460. Frankly the 460 is showing its age too much these days.
Having issues with iTunes I have a separate hard drive as opposed to my OS drive which I want to have my large less important files on and I moved my iTunes folder to there. issue i'm having is changing my media folder iTunes doesn't like it

Does it come up with error messages?
