8GB for the bloatware to run and then another 8GB for normal use. Probably.
I need a 25ft HDMI cable to attach my computer to my tv, so I can lay in bed and game. Which should I buy to make sure there won't be any input lag? I've heard I should buy 24AWG but I really know nothing about it. Also, wireless keyboard recommendations?
24 AWG is simply the gauge to prevent signal loss over longer cables (lower number means thicker cable). HDMI cord length isn't going to affect input lag. That's all on your TV. Monoprice cables are usually good quality for the price. [editline]9th April 2015[/editline]
Why do laptops come with so much memory? Just to impress people who don't know better? My PC gets along fine with 8GB, but I'm seeing cheaper laptops with 12GB of RAM. I can't imagine why you would need so much. Why not cut some RAM and add better storage? Or is the RAM so cheap that they just shove as much in as they can?
Its one of the numbers that the average consumer has been trained to look for. More RAM = better computer in their minds. I suppose I can't argue, as I would rather they put too much rather than not enough.
How do I use multiple drivers for multiple graphics cards? I currently have a GeForce GTX 780Ti (for gaming on center monitor) and a GeForce 210 (for desktop apps and whatnot on the 2 side monitors). My GeForce 210 says it needs the Nvidia drivers version 341.44 but my GeForce GTX 780Ti says it needs version 347.88. When I install the 341.44 version both of the cards work fine but I'm suspecting my 780Ti isn't working to its full potential, I got some video card crashes today when using the 341.44. And NVIDIA GeForce Experience keeps telling me to update to 347.88. When I do update to 347.88, my main monitor works fine with no crashes whatsoever but my side monitors (GeForce 210) are not working. My side monitors have no signal. If I go to the device manager I can see the little yellow exclamation mark on my GeForce 210 probably because of the lack of a proper driver. Any suggestions?
Could you not plug all three into the 780?
I could but I have my Oculus DK2 connected to the 780Ti so that only leaves 1 output left. I went ahead and got a new cheap card for the side monitors instead of always connecting and disconnecting the DK2.
is using the integrated GPU an option?
The on-board? I never tried to use it at the same time as the graphics card for I thought it wasn't possible to use when there is a graphics card present.

As in going to the device manager and choosing the option to uninstall the current one and install an older version.
The on-board? I've seen some pre-builts not support it for some reason though.

At least GeForce Experience says so. [editline]9th April 2015[/editline]
On some motherboards you have to manually enable the feature but its definitely possible. My side monitors support HDMI or VGA but I'm not going with VGA for sure.
Does anybody know how to fix these weird symbols on the first line appearing in subtitles in VLC? I tried switching encoding to UTF-8 and UTF-16, but it didn't do anything. Can it be just the subtitles themselves be like that? The subtitles are embedded into the .mkv, so I can't look at the files directly.

After enabling the iGPU option in my bios I tried to install the driver and was about to quit all this because it kept saying I didn't have the system requirements. Then I found out I was downloading the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver instead of the 4600 which is what I need. Everything is working perfectly now. I can remove the GeForce 210 and get my 780Ti back to 16x instead of its current 8x. Thanks everyone.
So I recently got a new computer case. After putting everything and wiring everything up, it does not boot. The fans turn on, the motherboard lights up, disc drive works, LEDs light up, etc. It does sound like the CPU turns on briefly but quickly turns off after about 2 seconds. Could I have accidently bumped the fins or something? Or would that be something with the heatsink?

Is there a reliable way of converting files to a new extension? For example I'd need to convert a .mp4 file to a .gif, but there are so many webpages out there, and I've got no clue which one would be decent.

I need to get a pre-built PC that has a warranty plan that includes full maintenance, I cannot build it as it is not fully my money. I have a budget of $1450~. I'm currently using CyberPowerPC and have come out with a computer with these specs: CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4790K 4.0 GHz HDD: 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD WD Black² Dual Drive SATA-III 6.0Gb/s MEMORY: 16GB (8GBx2) DDR3/2133MHz MOTHERBOARD: * GIGABYTE Z97X-SLI ATX w/ Intel GbLAN, 2 PCIe x16, 3 PCIe x1, 2 PCI, 1 x M.2, 1 x SATA Express, or 6x SATA 6Gb/s VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 Plus a lot of other small goodies like a new mouse and keyboard, HD video camera, and Windows 8.. All for a grand total of about $1450. What do you guys think?
I know this may sound stupid (especially coming from a PC noob such as myself) but is ''coil whine'' normal on a new GPU? I installed a new 970 today and when I'm specifically playing games a faint faint whining noise can be heard. If I alt +tab out, the noise disappears so I'm assuming it must be the GPU.
Coil whine isn't normal and if it's deem'd loud enough you can get it RMA"D. Which model/brand of 970 did you get?
EVGA GTX970 (version with acx 2.0 cooling)
EVGA are very good when it comes to RMA. If it's that annoying and loud enough get it RMA"D.
Well you're certainly right when you say EVGA are good. I got an email reply 30 minutes after sending them one. They said " enabling global VSYNC. Limiting the FPS to 60 will prevent the card from running at 100% when not needed. Second to note would be that these cards do seem to settle down after a sort of 'break in' period. Simply running OCScanner X overnight will likely cut the noise down substantially." Seeing I have 14 days to submit a return, I'll dtry out what they said and stress test it and see if the noise is reduced or gone. Plus they said if I was unhappy with the noise level, I can return it no problem. What a nice company!
can somebody price this for me? I'm selling my desktop to a friend and I want your guys' opinion on how much this thing is worth. case is CM scout.
Performance mode for the pump on my new h100i gtx has a noticeable pump whine is that normal? quiet mode works perfectly quiet like it says.
any idea why my case fan runs on full strength, even at low temperatures? my fan curve the other fans are running at reasonable speeds. setting it manually to run at 50% does nothing, nor does it go any up when manually setting it to 100%. I assume it's running at 100% constantly. [editline]11th April 2015[/editline] it's connected to one of the mobo's internal sysfan connectors. [editline]11th April 2015[/editline] my CPU and GPU isn't downscaling either for some odd reason any idea what might cause this? normally the CPU would downscale itself and since my GPU isn't in use at all, shouldn't the power be a lot lower as well?
any idea why my case fan runs on full strength, even at low temperatures?
Unplug that case fan and (if you have another one in your case) plug the other one into that same sysfan connector. If the same issue comes up, it's a problem with that sensor or the motherboard or the program. If it functions as it should, then it's a problem with that specific fan.
My main hard drive has died and as a result I don't have enough space for GTA V, but I do have a 128GB SD card. I know they're slow as shit compared to a HDD but would running a game from it work?

I don't know a whole lot about overclocking, but figured I should probably give it a shot considering I have a OC mobo, unlocked CPU and third party CPU cooler. I just set the multiplier, not changing anything else, to 42 to a, obviously, 4.2GHz OC. running a 4 torture tests in prime95 went well, though with fairly high temperatures is it possible to tweak something to keep the ratio but lower the temperatures? decrease voltage settings or whatever else there is? I don't feel safe in 95-100c territory. or is the only way to lower the temperatures to buy a heftier cooler? I have a evo 212.
Use a cooler test like modified x264. Also don't leave adaptive voltages on. Here's a pretty good guide.
