Just try and boot a Linux live CD on it like Linux Mint.
I don't have a DVD/CD drive. I could make a live USB but since I'd have to buy a USB drive (haven't used one in years) I may as well just hook the drive up to my laptop in an external enclosure and see if the drive works. I'll report back tomorrow after I give it a go. First priority will be getting whatever data I can off it, even though I have backups of irreplaceable files I'd rather not have to redownload a bunch of games. After that, assuming it still works, anything you recommend scanning it with?
Anybody know where to get a decent webcam which will record at a constant 30FPS in the UK? or does anyone have one for sale? :)
Anybody have any other ideas what could cause my horrible font smudging/unsharpness from the page before?
What kind of stuff would I need to connect my old PlayStation 1 via composite video to a vga monitor? Edit: Would this work? [thumb]http://litbimg1.rightinthebox.com/images/384x384/201205/rbvvof1337679632057.jpg[/thumb][thumb]http://litbimg3.rightinthebox.com/images/384x384/201205/dwlmux1337679630908.jpg[/thumb] It says video in and that's a composite input if I recall correctly. And it says it's a "RCA + VGA to VGA converter". Though about 20$, not sure if it's worth it. I read that the quality is acceptable, but nothing outstanding, so I'm thinking about just using an old 17" CRT. However a TFT monitor would fit better on my desk...
What kind of stuff would I need to connect my old PlayStation 1 via composite video to a vga monitor?
You would need a composite to VGA converter. If you had a PS2 I would recommend a component cable instead with a converter, but that's because I'm biased and composite looks like garbage in comparison even in ps1 games. :v:
Well I just tried my old TV tuner card, which has a composite IN pin. I even saw the Playstation menu in ChrisTV Lite for a second or so, then it changed some channel settings and since then I couldn't get the menu back, I just get a grey screen no matter what I select.
Does anyone have experience of a way to remap keys on a keyboard? For example if I'd want an US layout with æøå mapped on Altgr keys
Does anyone have experience of a way to remap keys on a keyboard? For example if I'd want an US layout with æøå mapped on Altgr keys
Autohotkey Looking into AltGr Apparently AltGr is just RAlt
LControl & RAlt::Send, ø
Well what did you think Right Alt was? :V
Autohotkey Looking into AltGr Apparently AltGr is just RAlt
LControl & RAlt::Send, ø

So if I were to use bind it to something like semicolon it would look like
RAlt & {;} ::Send, æ

So if I were to use bind it to something like semicolon it would look like
RAlt & {;} ::Send, æ

Unsure, I just replaced someone else's sample
Well what did you think Right Alt was? :V
AltGr is a foreign concept [t]http://7proxies.pw/i/2015/04/15-04-28_20-42-36.jpg[/t]

can you bring an internal hard drive on a plane? I am moving from Singapore to Amsterdam and want to bring my drives with me. 1 TB WD blue and 500GB seagate. should I bring them in my carry on luggage or keep them in the bags which go into cargo?

I don't think there are any rules against it. Unless you can find a way to pack them safely in cargo. Luggage tends to get thrown around a lot.

Thank you
Hmm, I can't seem to select 4k option anymore I have 2 980's This is either through nvidia geforce experience or ingame Tried with MGS:GZ and Dark Souls 2 Nevermind, I had to enable the resolution I wanted in nvidia control panel
I'll just leave this here since i asked in the CS:GO thread yesterday but i tried other games and i get down 10 fps in like Payday 2.. any help would really be appreciate. "Guys, I have played CS:GO for a long time, I have 650 + hours in the game and it has worked fine until today.. in the lobby I get 200fps and in the game I get 60 fps.. until... I or somebody close to me shoots. Then it drops to below 20.. It's really hard to play when this happens (every game I have done today) I tried updating my drivers, closed down everything except for the game itself and even put some things in the launch options, -novid -nod3d9ex -high. Nothing helped.. You guys have any idea what it could be? I also play on the lowest settings possibly just so you guys know."
Ah, thanks anyway. I'll see if this can do me justice
I find in the end it is more simple to do leftalt+shift to switch between the Nordic and US layout, rather than trying to use altgr. Adds up to a few extra seconds if you need to switch layouts a lot, but otherwise works well when you need your öäå's.
I have an MSI gaming laptop (i know) for school (we run multiple VM's so we need ram and cpu power), and I'm starting to notice problems with playing games When I'm playing, randomly (i guess when a file needs to be read off the HDD or the ram or something) the game freezes for 1-2 seconds, then continues what it's doing. This is frustrating, especially when I'm about to shoot someone and I guess it lags my PC out. I'm not too sure how to diagnose this, as I can't open up the laptop, and HD Sentinel says everything SMART related is fine. Is this maybe a Laptop Power Management issue where the drive spins down if nothing is needed and once I need a file from the HDD it spins up again (There's an SSD inside for the OS and it's files)? How should I go about diagnosing this?

Writing a maths rapport while switching between the two gets a bit bothersome after a while.
So hey, I just did a massive overhaul of all my parts, got a brand spanking new 980, i7 5820k, an x-99 mobo and 4x 4GB DDR4 RAM sticks Now this motherboard has space for x8 RAM sticks Is it totally fine for me to poke in my old 4GB DDR3 Kingstons? I'm not too well versed in this stuff so I'm not sure if I should follow battery rules where it's a "don't mix old with new" kinda deal.
DDR3 will not work with DDR4
Aww, gonna need to save up then. Thanks!
New question: My new computer is really loud. REALLY loud. And I've managed to find the source of this loudness. It's the cooler. It's a Corsair H100i watercooling and it's the fans. They seem to be at a constant 60% speed or something because as of now, on idle, they're at 2300RPM. Did I mention that they're really loud? Even with case isolation and putting it under my desk it's like having a jet engine on my floor. I can hear it when I'm listening to music on my headphones. I've got the X99 Mobo, so I went into the BIOS and fiddled with the settings, as limiting as it was. No change - at all. On any fan, actually. I tried making them go 100% at all times, no dice. I tried making them be at 20% until it hit 70 degrees at which point it would bump to 100%. No difference. I tried all kinds of extremes and it just doesn't follow. I also tried Speedfan. No luck. What do?
The H100i stock fans are notoriously loud. Have you tried corsair link?
So I heard. Didn't know beforehand. I'm gonna have to buy fans, aren't I? Got a recommendation? I like my PC quiet. I downloaded Corsair Link but I've no idea what to do in it or what to click. The layout is awful.
I've never used corsair link, so I can't help you much on that unfortunately.
Ah, alright. On that note I just realized (because I've never used water cooling before) that the fans on the radiator are just regular 120mm fans. Nothing extraordinary. Cheap and easy to replace by unscrewing. Was worried I'd need to disassemble the cooling tubes and everything. I'mma put in my old PC fans on there, nothing can be louder than this thing is anyway.

You don't need cubic airflow, you need static pressure.
