To be fair, its on borrowed time. Its extremely inefficient compared to the alternatives, which are free (OBS) and often do hardware based compression (Nvidia ShadowPlay, AMD VCE, and Intel Quicksync).
The only true upside to Fraps was near lossless but it was also a huge drawback if your HDD couldn't keep up.
I like the lossless, I love being able to run it in my media player on fullscreen and it would look like im playing the game.
SLI is supposed to have a lot of flickering at lower framerates, right? I get shimmering in certain conditions in GTA V and some other games. It doesn't affect all of them.

I get this bluescreen now and then. I checked the harddisk and it's current pending sector count is... bad? I guess? I tried defragging the disk, not sure if that did fuckall.
well I bought a new harddisk.
IF this harddisk also turns out to disconnect at random, I will be back, guys.
So guys.
Since my Tower PC doesn't cut it anymore for The Witcher 3 (E6600 C2Duo 2.4 GHz) but my ultrabook is noticably faster than my PC, would The Witcher run on it?
Intel Core i7-4500U 1.8 to 2.7 GHz
AMD Radeon HD 8670M - 2048
8GB Ram
Could tis run it on minimum specs?
Okay, I have a toughie. In the past few months I have started having issues where my games would suddenly crash, with no real reason, sometimes the game just closes completely, no errors, and sometimes it pops up saying "Game has closed due to an unexpected error". It has also Blue Screened a couple of times, again in the same situation (When I am just in the middle of the game). I cannot for the life of me figure out why its doing it, temperatures are great, I have stress tested the CPU and GPU, no issues. I have checked the voltages of my PSU under load etc, everythings fine. I have also checked my HDD, and everything seems to be fine.
It doesn't happen on every game, on Dota 2 I am absolutely fine, but games that have it bad seem to be Gta V, Verdun and War Thunder. It isn't a performance issue, because I run all above like 50fps.

Graphics Card: ASUS GTX 760
Would it be worth it to buy a GTX970 off of craigslist for 150? It would be getting shipped to me, so it seems like a big risk. Should I take the risk or not?
From what I understand, the "Student Version" of Windows 8.1 Pro is just a discounted price for students, right? If so, then the license should last in perpetuity and I would be able to update to Windows 10, right? My brother is currently in school and I might be able to get him to buy it for me.

The CPU is slightly slower than a low-end low-power desktop i3 (assuming no throttling), for what it's worth.
I got this prob with my graphics card. When i hook up my monitor with the HDMI cord all is fine but when I surf the web and/or watch videos it craps out, making my screen do wierd things like making the screen blurry to making the screen black with rainbow colors pixels randomly appearing on the screen. But when I hook up the vga cord to it its all fine. any help with this?

Is there hard limit of how many vm's you can create in Hyper-V and Virtualbox? (Not how man you can run at once.)
What's a good but not too expensive mic to pick up? Just the mic.
What's a good but not too expensive mic to pick up? Just the mic.
Are you wanting a desktop mic, or one that can connect to headphones? Also good as in what context? The modmic is a great mic for VOIP and in-game chat, but if you're trying to record more precise audio with it then it's not great.

Decent voice chat is all I really need.

What's "expensive" for you? What kind of microphone are you looking for? What do you want to do with it?
As mentioned above, the Zalman ZM-Mic 1 is a $5 clip-on mic and sounds fantastic for the price. It also picks up everything though.
The ModMic for $50 is great if you want something you can mount to your headphones. Picks up much less environmental noise.
Good desktop/mounted mics start at about that price, and this is what you'll wanna go for if you have the space and want something that sounds professional, e.g. for streaming/YouTube videos. Bad desktop mics are cheaper, obviously. Here's a short list.
[editline]16th May 2015[/editline]
Ah, decent voice chat. Then said Zalman mic and the ModMic are your options, really.
The clip on isn't really that bad though with environmental noise. Mine rarely picks up anything outside my room, only if it's really loud.
Does anyone have any idea why the Windows 8 icon doesn't show up when I post?
Thanks fellas! I'm thinking either the ModMic or this since it's the same brand as my headphones. (Although I'll probably just go with the mod mic)

Windows 8 will show up, 8.1 won't.

Oh I see its because I have 8.1 that's why.

When you get a condenser mic, you'll also want a pop filter.
If you really just want voice chat, take the ModMic. Most voice chat programs won't even record at a quality where a better mic is beneficial.

Yeah I was planning on the ModMic, AuditoTechnica stuff just catches my eye more than it should.
For this build, would a 600W PSU do me fine?
Intel i5-4670k
EVGA GTX 970
8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 Memory
1x SSD
3x HDD
I was thinking either the Be Quiet! Purely because I want to get a braided cable bundle
But I'm feeling a 700/750W may be a better option?

Hey, got a problem and i could use a hand. Basically my monitor resolution is stuck at 1024x768. I try and change it back through the Screen Resolution window, nothing, stays at this resolution. I can't go any higher, but I can go lower. It was working perfectly fine minutes ago until I opened a game (which is set to 1920x1080, my standard resolution). Can anybody help me with this?

Have you tried restarting your computer? Sometimes it can just get fucked like that. If you have, it something may have gone stupid in your driver options, what card do you have?

Be Quiet! is a very well regarded manufacturer in Germany, where it's from, it's just not widely known in the outside world, and their PSU is more efficient at 80+ Gold to Seasonic's 80+ Bronze. Why do you prefer the latter?

I'm quite familiar with Be Quiet. That Be Quiet PSU is a pretty solid FSP platform, but I'd still consider the Seasonic M12 better than all but a couple FSP platforms. 80+ rating means literally nothing in quality.
Edit: To add in more, as far as actual build quality goes the soldering on the seasonic is usually better, the BeQuiet uses lesser Taiwanese caps.
[editline]16th May 2015[/editline]
And if you can get a bit better unit that's also fully modular (vs semi like the be quiet) for cheaper, why not?
I got a brand spankin' new hard drive in the mail today, but it didn't come with any SATA cables. Can I use any old cables or do I need newer ones?
