Thinking of upgrading my processor once Skylake drops, do you think it's worth it? I currently have Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz and I haven't overclocked it at all or anything. Here's a link to more deets too http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504&cm_re=i5-3570k_3570k-_-19-116-504-_-Product
For under 30 dollars you can easily bump it up to 4.2. Depending on your chip, you could potentially go up to 4.5 or 4.8 (4.8-5.0 is rare, but 4.5 isn't uncommon). Assuming your mother board supports overclocking. We'd need to know what your motherboard is to help you much more. Best bet is to post a speccy.
Seems very unlikely that it's worth upgrading. If you want a living room PC, you can throw a low end dual core in it with a relatively inexpensive motherboard and call it a day, though I guess this depends on what you intend to do with that computer.
Is there anything I can throw on an All In One to give me a POST code?
I replaced the motherboard and re-connected everything, runs power to everything fine but it appears not to POST. No picture on it's screen either.
dead igp? or gpu?

I seem to be a BSoD magnet. I'm not a computer whiz, anyone care to explain?
Just got it again, anyone?
Is there anyway I could control the media keys from one computer on the same network as a different computer? Like say if i'm playing music from my desktop and i'm laying down with my laptop and I don't want to get up to switch the song or play/pause. Could I remotely control the media keys with like some software?

Would you not just analyze BSOD from memory dump and see what's wrong?
I always do that, started doing it when I realized that asking: "Got BSOD, what's wrong?" isn't quite a right question.
BSOD indicates at hardware fault, it's hard to say what's causing it with just an image.
At least mention what did you do before it happened, where it happened, etc..

No GPU on board, and afaik i'm getting power to everything but the USB ports and the all in one monitor.
I'm gonna take it all apart again today, see if I missed any cables.

didn't know that existed, I always used windows debugging tools.

Ah sorry. Always thought people could figure things out my just a few error codes, guess that's not the same for BSoD's. And just me being stupid I guess :v:
Anyways, I was playing GTA V (on like super low settings) and got a BSoD

The Rt64win7.sys is a Realtek NIC driver.
Since you appear to have an older driver installed you could try the newer Windows 7 drivers posted at the Realtek site:

How can I check which one of these I need?

Should say in device manager (or at least give you a model number to Google)
I hope I got the right one, can I trust the Windows driver checker? Windows its-self says all my drivers are up-to date.

Can anything be done about faulty drivers? My computer runs fine in safe mode, it ran fine after I uninstalled my graphics drivers, but as soon as I reinstalled them with the latest ones the display started to get corrupted and went all black.
I hope I got the right one, can I trust the Windows driver checker? Windows its-self says all my drivers are up-to date.
Windows will always say that, because I think it only checks certain directories on the local disk that nobody ever really uses.

That device has "GBE" in its name, which I think means "Gigabit Ethernet"
so on the Realtek site, the Gigabit Ethernet driver should do it
what's usually regarded as the best recording software nowadays? i want to record some matches on netplay with the dolphin emulator but i can't see FRAPS being good (isn't it really outdated anyway?)

I believe dxtory is still a popular choice, other than that there is AMD's and Nvidia's recording solutions, or OBS
I believe dxtory is still a popular choice, other than that there is AMD's and Nvidia's recording solutions, or OBS
As a side note, OBS can use software, Intel Quicksync, and Nvidia H.264 encoding. There's also a fork that enables AMD encoding. Its probably the most flexible choice (as it can do desktop capture and camera capture as well), although most complicated to set up.
I think the only problem with OBS is if you're running multiple cards it only grabs the frames from one card.
Yesterday I installed windows 8.1, and I ran into bit of an issue with my first monitor.
It's a HP W1907v, and both of my two monitors are overdriven from 60 to 75Hz.
After the installation was finished, and I installed AMD's most recent driver, the resolution went up to 1440x900.
Problem is though that it didn't fully fit to screen, and screen elements like the taskbar looked cropped, I could see like 3-4cm of blank space on the right side.
A quick fix was to switch the refresh rate from 60 to 75hz, which info was preserved for some reason even after I nuked my old installation. But the problem is in GTA V the image is stretched across the screen and this issue was solved by putting the display mode to windowed borderless. Note that the refresh rate in GTA V is automatically set to 75hz.
So far I tried to use the automatic adjust, a factory reset which led to nothing.

Thanks, installed the latest driver. And when I get a new BSoD I know where to look
The "install Windows 8.1 for free" notification has gone from popping up once a week to popping up once a day. Is there anything I can do to make it go away other than installing Windows 8.1? After trying it a few months ago and encountering a notoriously unfixable problem with wireless network drivers (and subsequently running a system refresh to revert back to Windows 8), I've given up on using 8.1 on this laptop. So how do I make the notifications stop?

I'm not sure, but it's probably going to get more aggressive. Scratch what I said earlier, it s not ending support this year. Unfortunately Windows 8 users are such a small minority, you probably aren't going to find much on how to workaround it.

Call the customer support for your wireless NIC's manufacturer daily until they fix the driver problems in 8.1, then get 8.1.
If MS is going to nag you, it's time to forward the nagging to the people who are the real problem.
So, I recently overclocked my CPU, which gave me significant performance boosts which were enough to actually properly play GTA V
Yesterday after three hours of playing GTA, the computer froze. So I ramped up the voltage by 10mV this morning, and got these temperatures after 5 minutes of running prime95.

Should I be in the clear enough? My current room temperature is about 20c.

You should be fine. That's what my A8 6500 idles at :v:
120 GB Samsung 850 EVO for - $100
or
1 TB Seagate SSHD Hybrid for $75?
I'm sort of into saving money right now and having more space (only using 250 GB HD from 2005 atm) but not if the speed/quality difference is that bad.
