Ordered a cheap charger from Amazon for dell inspiron laptop (one of the old ones), it arrived but when connected whole laptop goes bananas, touchpad is not working nor any mouse I connect still charges laptop though. Is this caused by cheap charger? Is there any fix?
Anyway, I might refund it and just get new laptop, not worth shelling out 60-70 euro on charger for such old laptop.
Any suggestions for 300-400 euro laptop? No gaming, literally only internet and microsoft word stuff.

Yesterday, I connected a double male ended mini HDMI cable from my PS3 to my computer monitor. This set up has worked before and the picture came through but when I tried plugging in my headphones into the monitor, the picture cut out. The monitor says it cannot detect any HDMI signal. I initially thought it was my PS3 and reset the PS3 but it still doesn't work. The PS3 was in storage with the HDMI cable connected to it for a while. Is it possible that the cable is messed up even though it's pretty much just out of the box?

Getting Comcast service soon. I'll save $10/mo if I buy my own modem, and I've needed a new wifi router anyways with 5ghz support. What are the current go-to DOCSIS 3 modems, and would you recommend a combination modem/router or get them separately?

Separately. I've got a Motorola SB6121, cheapest quality 3.0 modem. I'm thinking of picking up an ubiquiti dual band N pro access point though
Does anyone know a fix for Windows 8.1 where my computer keeps deselecting the active window?
Like sometimes I'm typing and then I have to click on the window again because it deselected the window I was writing on.

Not sure how Comcast provisions their speeds, but in the case of TWC they only provision up to 100Mb/s max if you have 8 downstream channels on your modem. You may want to check if Comcast does something similar, in case you have a >100Mb/s package.
I'm looking for a decent gaming laptop. It won't be for any extreme gaming. Just WoW and a few steam games, GTA etc... But ill also be using Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator and stuff so it may be process heavy.
I'd normally just buy the parts separately if it was a desktop. But i'm clueless when it comes to laptops so any help would be appreciated.
I have a £1,200 budget. Preferably pay monthly, even if it is like an extra £100.

I'm only getting the 25Mbit package for now (105Mbit is $90/mo where I live), but if there's a cheap, quality 8-channel modem available, I'd prefer it just for future-proofing.
Is there a way to idiot proof a Windows user account? Every time my dad needs to try and install a generic runtime, he simply clicks the first link on Google, and I have to clean up over 10 piece of shit PUPs. I'm honestly growing sick of that because I had to look after this on multiple occasions.

Having an extremely strange set of problems with my pc, was wondering if anyone around here had any idea since google is giving me nothing for once.
Having an issue where my PC sometimes crashes when closing a graphics intensive game, so far it's happened with blade symphony and star citizen. The first time it majorly corrupted my windows install breaking half the drivers in device manager in a scattershot pattern, taking out sound, the optical drives, one ethernet port, even each of my 8 hyperthreaded cores somehow reported a driver failure. This was on an HD, so i reinstalled to an SSD completely and have only brought a few applications over wholesale (of note, msi afterburner and it's settings). That fixed the corruption but then the crash happened again, luckily it didnt corrupt on the ssd this time (and i have an image ready in case it does) but regardless i would really prefer it to not crash.
Anyways my thought after it happening again on the new install was hardware issue, but i've already rune disc checks, memtests, etc and its not an issue. For those and also for a psu, mobo, etc It also doesnt make sense for a hardware issue to cause a crash exclusively on the exit of a game. I've made sure it's not heat related in that i've watched my temps carefully while playing, my cpu does get up to 80c in star citizen but on an i7 920 it shouldnt be forcing a shutdown until 105c, my gpu is around the same temp when fully taxed, both have been hotter than they are now without any issues other than the normal increased wear(though there were separate issues at the time causing that). Specs are 10 gb ddr3 ram (one of my 2gb sticks of ram died months ago, need to rma it when i get the chance, has worked fine until now), i7 920, gtx 580, asus p6t deluxe v2, 800w corsair power supply, 3 HDDs and 1 SSD boot drive running windows 7 x64.
looking for some 20 inch monitors, hdmi/vga

laptop, it needs to be able to play dota, as well as run autodesk products like cad and inventor. I might also be mixing a bit of music on it
so I need to replace my battery for my Nexus 5, I'm at a flea market right now and this dude is telling me the difference between an original and aftermarket battery. What should I do? Is there really a difference?
Alright. I gave him my phone. Took the sim and Using my old 4s while he has it. Good call
So after getting my laptop to work for a couple days it started doing this on bootup.

Is my motherboard dead?
I noticed your caps lock light is flashing, so you may want to look at this page.
It appears to be a CPU failure.
Fuck. Thanks guys.
Depending on the model of laptop, you may be able to buy another CPU for it and replace it yourself which would cost less than buying a new laptop.
The right side of my monitor(particularly the Top-Right) has suddenly started showing horizontal lines and they're really distracting and dull the colour. What's wrong and how can I solve it?
I'm not sure whether it's important either but the right side of my monitor is also much warmer than the left, so is this possibly just a heat related issue?
Now it looks as if some images have been burned into the monitor?

Cpu is not replaceable on this model. Fuck.
Anyone know of a good place to find drivers for old IBM Thinkpads?
I have this OG thinkpad: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/1829-L7G which I need drivers to winXP for.
Problem is, I can only find really shady sites that claims to have drivers for it, or IBM/Lenovo have hidden them real good on their own sites.
And don't worry about it still using winxp, since it'll only be connected to CANbus networks for diagnostics.
For whatever reason, I can't find any drivers for older IBM machines (Thinkcentres or Thinkpads). Lenovo has a section, but its completely broken. So yeah, I feel you.

Unless you have an extremely hot desk light burning into the monitor and melting the plastic (this has happened to me before) the monitor is probably dying.
What is a good screen recording software that also can record games well?
What can cause windows to fail to load? even safe mode?

OBS is the best I've used. Even supports hardware H.264 encoding with Intel and NVIDIA gpus (and AMD if you get the forked version).

Very corrupt system files, possibly from malware or a dying HDD.
