I need a way to end a JavaScript script right where it is without throwing a error.
Because I wrote a script in Google App Script that does some sorting and throws an error stating the Execution time limit is near when it happens. This works as intended, but poses a problem.
I want to know when the script suffers a critical failure so I have it set if an error happens, mail me. Since I throw an error when the execution time is near, this sends me a email about this. Since reaching the execution time is normal operation and happens frequently, I don't want emails of this error.
So I'm having a problem with OBS. It seems it doesn't like that I have multiple graphics cards. (Intel Graphics 4000 and GTX 860M.)
It doesn't recognize any games, for some reason. If I set it to the Intel one it can record the screen and Window. But not the game.
What are people's backup solutions? I have tons of stuff strewn all across multiple external hard drives but I want to move onto a more regular solution because I've realised how important stuff I have on my laptop has become (research data, in-house MATLAB scripts and even irreplaceable photos). Luckily I only have a 128 gb SSD and even in that I don't have to back everything up just certain essentials.
I was thinking of using CrashPlan (free version, backing up to one external hard drive and to a dropbox account). My biggest issue is I absolutely hate having anything running in the background that is not absolutely necessary. I don't even care about daily or continuous backups so even once a week/every two weeks would be acceptable. I thought of going for the 5$ a year plan but I have so little trust in any and all online companies. Not because my stuff will be stolen (I trust my password and I don't have anything worth stealing anyway) but because I don't know how long they'll last. I don't want to get too used to their cloud backup system, get complacent and three years down the line lose everything because they went under. Is that too paranoid?
I personally go with a in house solution of having a server with enough space to hold files using Windows backup to network drive feature. Any old desktop will do and you just need to load it with enough storage, install Ubuntu Server, and set up samba to share a location on your drive. On you laptop, just find your server and verify the network location before using Windows backup (or file history) to use your network location as a location for backup.

This works, but you probably want to be duplicating that backup to an external drive of some sort - then storing that off-site.
That's essentially what I'm doing for ~3tb.
Server -> Windows Backup -> iSCSI disk -> (iSCSI Target) Backup Server -> (copy to) External Hard Drive.
Should I be worried if this keeps happening to my start screen?

It's identical on both monitors and comes back after some uptime after a restart.
EDIT: it randomly happens to videos on not-youtube and when refreshing webpages, too.
Yeah, probably, since your graphics card isn't rendering it right
it could be drivers, it could be dying card
Okay so the good news is, my internet is working.
The bad news is, the 2.4GHz spectrum is a clusterfuck over here. 40+ networks active. Fifteen on channel 11 alone, and that's the least noisy one. I was getting 25% packet loss just to the router.
So obviously I need to be on 5GHz. So obviously I need a new router (I needed one anyways), and a new wireless card for my laptop (because Asus is cheap bastards and used a single-band 802.11n card in a $1500 laptop).
For the card, I'm pretty sure Intel is the best bang-for-your-buck (I'm eying the 7260), but I could be convinced otherwise if there's a good alternative.
However, I'm completely lost on the router. My only real requirements are 5Ghz support and at least 4 GbE LAN ports, but that covers basically everything on the market. Is there a way to tell how powerful their transmit is? If the 5GHz band is as crowded as the 2.4GHz, I'll want one powerful enough to cook with.

Odd that they put in a single band. Ironically, ASUS put the 7260 in my $600 one. :v:
I guarantee the 5 Ghz band won't be crowded, not enough to impact performance anyway. Thing is, the range on 5 Ghz isn't as good through walls, so I hope you don't have a large area to cover. However, I've had good luck with the ASUS RT-N66U. Consistently gets good reviews and it hasn't done me wrong and the range is decent.
There's the AC66U variant as well, and AC is designed around 5 Ghz. However you'll need a different Wireless card to properly use it, and it will be more expensive.
Forgot to mention, I'm boycotting Asus because I'm still fucking mad at them. So a non-Asus router would be preferable.
Starting a week ago, every time I shut down my computer, it makes a laser gun noise. Like right as it's turning off, it just goes "pew-pew"
Should I be concerned?
Heyo! I'm trying to get ready for Xcom and Fallout and am upgrading to a new computer. I don't want to go overboard on price though, do you think any of these under-$1000 computers would be good enough to run it well?

No, these are absolutely awful - the graphics cards in them, at least.
You should really build your own.
Argh bugger, cheers for letting me know.

Just use your current router and pick up an Ubiquiti AP Pro dual band N! They've got stupid power.

Current router is 100MbE only, which is one of the many reasons I was planning to replace it.
Yeah my current AP (ASUS RTN12) is FE only too. It blows. Replacing it with one of those Ubiquitis once the cash gets to that point in my budget plans.

The default config for the intel one is pretty hilarious tbh. i5, 16gb RAM, gt 730, mATX board in a full sized case.
Do I just need to use a microfiber cloth to clean thermal paste off my CPU or do I need something more?
Can someone help me understand why my internet completely dies when I forward any ports at all? Now I'm gonna have to call the stupid company and have them reset it because it refuses to connect. Last time I messed with the ports it did the same damn thing. Anyone know why?
Shitty router/modem.
What is it.
This. It seems to be a modem and router combined, I think. I got it to come back on by unplugging it for a bit and then replugging it but yeah. Not gonna try that again if it's gonna just die out whenever I attempt it.
Yeah upgrade. I'm assuming CT will let you do this?
Yeah that sucks. What's CT though?
Yeah try to get one that has just the modem. Combos tend to be real flaky like that. Then you can at least you can buy your own router with a proper UI.
That being said, I don't know of any good DSL modems, only cable ones. CenturyLink has an approved list here. http://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/modem-compatibility-table-q.html
The ones that only have 1 Ethernet and no wifi are standalone modems.
Alright, thanks for the info you guys.
So, I've gone for nearly 6 years without a backup on this computer, and I'll be getting a laptop later this year for uni, so I'm in need of a external HDD for backups and data transfer.
I haven't really looked at hardware in a while, so are there any manufacturers / models that have a reputation for reliability?
My friend wants to get a 980 or 980ti and isn't sure if his motherboard is compatible/if there will be any bottlenecking (I really doubt this).
It really won't. You've got 4 cores running at a high Ghz, it's a few years old but it should not be a bottleneck for your system. You can upgrade it fairly cheaply but don't worry about it, especially if you're getting a 970.
Should be fine, it's a good processor
also those temps :v:

my folio 9480m has the 7260 card. It's solid and picks up wifi where my friends cant

The 2500k is still competitive, the 2700k is better
What is a good graphics card for around $250?
My current specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770k
Mainboard: MSI H77MA-G43 (MS-77756)
Memory: 8 GB DDR3
GFX Card: AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
You could get a 290X for that
There's GTX 970s on my local CL for $250-280, might be able to find a deal there if power is a concern
I posted on Fast Threads on my mistake, but theres the problem:
I have a gtx 660 and a i7 3770, noticed this problem recently when replaying Borderlands with a friend.
I have the NVIDIA GPU Utilization thing opened on one monitor, and i'm playing on my main one.
The problem is this, after getting in game for the first time, my GPU Utilization is around 80-90%+ with my getting around 80-100fps, which is great.
However, after around 10-20 minutes afterwards, my GPU Utilization drops to sub 50% and it results in my fps tanking.
After a long play session of around 1-2 hours, it drops to about 20-40% and my fps is hovering around 30~ and at one point got stuck at around 20~.
I checked my control panel, power settings are set to prefer performance mode, so i'm not sure why it slowly goes down over time.
Did a test, would have 95%+ GPU Usage for about a minute, then it goes downhill from there.
Maintaining 50-60~ degree temps.
Any help?
