What's the best way to secure RDP?
What's the best way to secure RDP?
Secure it like how?
Login wise, make sure only certain users have permissions to remote desktop.
Modern versions of RDP use fairly decent encryption (I believe its SSL-TLS). If you want another layer, you could use a VPN or SSH tunnel.
Problem: For some reason the 7950 Twin Frozr III's HDMI port is placed real fuckin high up instead of centered. There is a bracket literally right above the port with 0 clearance at all. Molded boot on my HDMI (and fucking all HDMI's it looks like) will not get past it. I'm actually getting signal and detection on my PC with it halfway in, but obviously I'd like it all the way in and secure in there.
I really don't want to cut in to the boot and I'm definitely not cutting in to the case. Anybody have a good solution? Somebody told me to move the card down a bit (AKA strain the fuck out of the connector) plug in, shove up and screw down. This sounds not good for my poor card already.
Now why have I not yet put my dual 280x's that have not been mining any crypto for 5 months in my rig yet..? This is what drugs do to ya, kids.
I do love my 7950 though. Got it for free and it's purty.
I just got a new Lenovo Y50, and it seems I'm discovering how terrible the scaling on Windows 8.1 is. The screen resolution is only 1080p, but it seems Chrome and many other applications are really small. Here is a screenshot of chrome http://imgur.com/exJFlb9. Anybody know any fixes?

Have you changed the scaling options in the display settings?
Honestly would be surprised if you hadn't

Last time I checked, Chrome does not scale to your DPI settings, at least by default. So its not Windows 8 scaling, that's just what Chrome looks like on a 1080p display. Firefox and IE do support Windows scaling though. If you want to keep using Chrome, set the default zoom to something more comfortable. Note that the tabs and UI will still be the same size.
My Chrome is giving me the "He's dead, Jim" error quite a lot these few recent days. Anyone getting the same?
So I'm trying to get a friend's computer all fixed up and I find out it's running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise of all things and it's protected by a password. Apparently it was given to him without the expectation that it would ever work again. I tried to install windows 8.1 onto this thing but every time I've tried, it just shows the windows 8.1 logo for 5 minutes, then restarts and does that indefinitely. Is there a reason why I'm unable to install windows 8.1 on this?

Like it just goes black mid-boot? It sounds like its bluescreening somewhere. It should be prompting for recovery options and startup repair if it fails to boot though. So it can't even make it to safe mode.
Are you sure the disc/ISO you installed it from isn't corrupted? Also, try running a disk check (chkdsk /r) using the command prompt recovery mode on the install disc. The hard drive could be on the verge of failure.
Changing the SATA mode in the BIOS will do this too, but odds are you didn't change that between install and now.

It boots up the Windows Server 2008 OS just fine but it just hangs with the Windows logo in the middle of the screen with the windows 8.1 disc installed until it eventually goes black and restarts.
It can't be the hard drive though because I've also tried testing it with one of my own reformatted drives and it did the same thing. The disc is also fine because I just used it to install 8.1 on a laptop just a few days ago.
I'll try messing around in the BIOS to see if I can get it to work.
Edit: I managed to get an error code by recording my screen. Turns out a Pentium D and windows 8.1 are incompatible which sucks because that's the only windows disk I have.
That's a caveat to Windows 8 that gets overlooked really. It runs well on poor hardware for what it is, but older CPUs that may still be viable don't support certain newer CPU instructions.

Wow, that's a really obscure instruction. I knew about NX, but that applies to 8 and up in general. Oddly enough, my T7200 from 2006 apparently supports it as its running 10.
Anyone have a link to an iso for Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit? The bastards at microsoft still won't allow OEM keys for getting a download.

I can in however long it takes to upload a 3gb ISO on a 5mbps connection :v:
Wanna know what's stupid?
My Xeon Irwindale can't even use Execute Disable Bit even with the latest bios and the CPU supports it but it never actually turns on(thanks Acer)
BUT MY CELERON M DOTHAN LAPTOP ALSO HAS NX and COULD run Windows 8.1 and even Windows 10.
/shrug
I installed Windows 8.1 on my grandfather's Celeron M laptop from 2006.
Can confirm, it does work. :v:
Slowly. Very slowly. Only saving grace is the Radeon GPU.
uuh. Recently switched from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 and every now and then my memory spikes to 95%+ and stays there until I restart my PC. I don't see anything obvious to why it would be so high. help

Does anyone know why all the wikia pages I go to look like this:

I tried clearing the cache, no luck.
I'm new to this but
Is there a reason to get a 4k monitor when your card can just use DSR?

DSR is just fancy, computationally expensive antialiasing. It doesn't actually put more details on the screen.
Is there any reason not to always use the admin account on windows 7? like security or something?
I've been looking to replace my 5870 and saw an ad for a second hand R9 290 Tri-X OC with warranty till Febuari for €200. I thought that was pretty good but the card has been repaired whoch does make me a lil but concerned, perhaps unnecissarily.
Does anyone have experience with buying GPUs second hand? Howd it turn out?
Think Nvidia will release something next year?
That's better than a 980 TI?

Just fine for the most part. Especially if you've got warranty. I buy almost no computer components new.

I'm looking for a new video card to replace the one currently in my computer. The card I currently have is an ATI Radeon 4200, and I'm using an HP Pavilion (p6624y) model. I haven't upgraded this computer at all beyond replacing its 1TB hard drive with a 2TB one.
After looking into it I think a good card might be the ATI Radeon HD 7870 (I'm looking for a card with GTA V in mind, and this one is recommended), but I'm not sure if it's appropriate for my computer (I remember size being an issue when I was looking up info on it). Can someone tell me if this is an appropriate card for my computer, or suggest another one?
I'm also looking to replace the Athlon CPU listed in the Pavilion's specs there, but it's less of a priority for me than the video card. If someone could suggest a better CPU with a reasonable price, I'd appreciate it.
I reinstalled Win7 a while ago and now I've got a System Reserved Partition.
What is the use of it and why did I get it when I reinstalled Win7?
Does it actually matter if sata 0 is disk c, and sata 1 is dick d etc?
Cus in my desktop right now, my c disk is sata 4 and my f disk is sata 0.
Is there any point in actually fixing this? Other than my ocd?
No not really. I would only switch them if you had an SSD on a 3 Gb/s SATA port instead of 6 Gb/s. Otherwise, only difference is what number they are and the order Windows automatically assigns them drive letters (which can be changed anyway).

To get any new GPU, you're going to have to get a new PSU. To get a decent card and PSU, you'll probably have to get a new case to fit it in. There's no real worthwhile upgrade on that CPU either.

TL;DR: It contains the boot manager and allows you to boot your system if you encrypt the C: drive. Its always created when you install Windows.
If you use the Disk Management utility, you can remove the drive letter so it won't show up in your drive list. Odd that it did.
