Think Nvidia will release something next year? That's better than a 980 TI?
Doubt it, but if you can afford a 980 Ti, you can afford to sell it on eBay and buy a new card next year.
Doubt it, but if you can afford a 980 Ti, you can afford to sell it on eBay and buy a new card next year.
Pascal still may come out in 2016. With HBM2.
To get any new GPU, you're going to have to get a new PSU. To get a decent card and PSU, you'll probably have to get a new case to fit it in. There's no real worthwhile upgrade on that CPU either.
Alright then. Is there anything I can still do about the video card? I imagine there has to be something half decent that will work on my computer as it currently is, the card I have now only has 512MB of memory.
Heyo, my friend is looking for a pair of monitors larger than the ones she has right now. She's got a 23" monitor and was looking to grab something around the 28"+ range (bigger being better). She's okay with 4k, but plans to keep running games at 1080p since she's not sure if her rig will handle 4k with all games. Color quality is pretty important for her too. Can anyone give me a few suggestions for monitors that fits the bill?
My computer recently has been freezing up completely, and I have to force shut it down to restart it. There doesn't seem to be any specific pattern to it happening. It's happened while playing games, watching twitch, or watching youtube. The keyboard and mouse stop working and all sound suddenly stops. No errors show up and the computer itself doesn't make any funny noises, so I'm not really sure what's wrong here.
Think Nvidia will release something next year? That's better than a 980 TI?
This is based entirely off of rumors and speculation, but the Pascall cards coming in 2016 will support HBM2 memory and could allow for a potential capacity of 32GB of VRAM on a single graphics card because of the technology that HBM is built on. However, the likelyhood of this coming to fruition is very low if you ask me. It sounds a lot like wishful thinking than anything else.

AMD has dibs on HBM2 so nvidia will have to wait. Plus the 32gb is only for Quadro cards.
and 32GB of VRAM for a GPU is insane.
I'm sure most people needing top end Quadro cards would disagree.
but for gaming...which is exactly what i meant
But it's not 32gb on any gaming cards? At least the current plans.
Pascal still may come out in 2016. With HBM2.
Oh yeah, I forgot that was 2016.
I have an MSI Gaming Laptop (GT60) and I noticed the little indicator on the power button changes color sometimes when the computer is on, it's white most of the time but sometimes it turns orange. Does anybody know what the indicator means?

:snip: Fixed by simply restarting...
I have an Asus laptop, but usually, orange means charging, green means charging when full, and just plain white means the laptop is on but not charging.
This laptop has a separate indicator for when the battery is charging, though. The power button indicator also sometimes changes to orange for a few seconds and then goes back to white. [editline]27th July 2015[/editline] Welp, should've looked at the manual in the first place. It says: "Glowing white when the notebook power is turned on. Glowing amber when NVIDIA Optimus function is activated." So yeah, it turns orange/amber when NVIDIA Optimus is in use. By the way, does anybody know what's up with this very faint "clicking" sound coming from the AC adapter for the laptop? It's not anything that annoys me, it's been doing this since I bought it and I haven't had any problems with the power supply, but I'm just curious why it makes that sound.
Hey guys, I'm having issues setting up a three monitor setup, I am using 2 DVI cables and 1 HDMI cabled connected by a HDMI to DSP, yet it still won't work properly.
Depending on the card it might only be able to support a certain number of DVI connections(which HDMI is). The wording is a bit confusing but it seems like you used a passive display port to hdmi adapter which still counts as an HDMI port to the GPU, which might not support more than 2 DVI type connections.
Uh, my computer is doing some scary shit. I just booted it up this morning and my pinned programs' icons weren't loading, and when I opened Firefox none of my settings were loaded and it acted like this was the first time I had opened it. I rebooted and now I have a default desktop without any pinned programs and the stock wallpaper. Hopefully it's just a corrupt profile and nothing serious.

Does anyone know how to change pan speed in Word 2015? I like using middle mouse button to pan documents in other programs but in Word it, like, goes from slow to blazing fast in an instant, so it is pretty useless. Chrome's panning on the other hand is perfect
Is AVG still the go-to free antivirus software, or has a new one come around that's better?
Is AVG still the go-to free antivirus software, or has a new one come around that's better?
Windows 8+ has Microsoft Security Essentials built in. Typically people run that with either Malware Bytes or Avast. Honestly common sense and MSE will keep you safe.

I've already got MalwareBytes installed, but after uninstalling Kaspersky, we've been unable to open Chrome or Firefox.
Well you can upgrade her to win 10 for free in 2 days so you'll get MSE with that - but you can try reinstalling Chrome/Firefox. I would maybe guess that Kapersky might have an extension that crashes the browser because it's no longer installed.
Is there anyone here that got any experience with changing the fans on a GPU? I am considering getting a ARCTIC COOLING Accelero Xtreme III cooler for my r9 290, but I don't know if its actually worth it.
I changed the fans of my CF 4870' once. They where way more quiet and cooler afterwards. Some manifacturers stock fans are already really good tough. Which 290 do you have?

After I uninstalled it and restarted the computer everything works fine. [editline]27th July 2015[/editline] OMG THAT'S RIGHT WINDOWS 10 IS ALMOST OUT
Had an idea for this CD drive I have, but dont (and probably wont ever) use, in my laptop. Retrofit it to be a wireless charging pad.
GWX.exe is running but there's no icon in my tray. Please advise. Manually running the scheduled task didn't do shit [editline]27th July 2015[/editline] OK, now it's just starting for a brief second then exiting again. Google's results aren't helping. Why the fuck can't I reserve my fucking Win10 copy
I have a audio file ripped from a Album CD, Its now 1hour and 12 minutes long. Is it possible to split the track into smaller tracks? if I want to skip a song on my phone I skip the whole hour and 12 minutes

What is a good replacement for windows media player? I personally hate the long ass delay from opening short sound files such as weapon sounds only to have to wait for a few seconds while WMP catches up. Support for .ogg would be nice too.
